And that's why we're in no hurry to replace him. 12 games with Tyron is better than 17 games without.

.
Except when Tyrons body is done on Dec 1 and is a shell of himself when the playoffs begin like last year.

It would be one thing if he came back 100% from injury. But last year showed once he goes down he’s not coming back to pro bowl form.

And we have to be ready to deal with that, which is one of the reasons we drafted Tyler, but Tyron's play also helped us get to the playoffs. I'm in no hurry to cast him aside because when he plays, it is usually at a higher level than most tackles achieve. That doesn't mean that we don't prepare for when we don't have him.

So we got the best oline still, top 5 TE, top 5 play caller, our WR are awsome too, QB top 5......whats the problem then?
Hmm, perhaps the RB position?? Can a healthy Zeke carry the load, or is it time to give Pollard his chance??

Last 2 years he’s had to miss time with the back beginning in November. Same as we saw with the start to Tyrons issues.
He did? I have a terrible memory so I had to look up his stats but it says he played 16 games last year and it was a calf and concussion injuries for 2020. Honestly need the refresher...was he in and out of games?

I wanted Quenton Nelson so bad in that draft to pair with Zack Martin. He was my #1 target even though the Cowboys had what was considered the best OL in the league at the time.

Nelson went 6th and we picked 19th. We would have had to give up a ton to get him.

More likely we have terrible scheme.. Especially our run blocking. Too often we fail to account for all the defenders leaving at least one guy roaming free in the backfield to make the tackle and if one of the other guys gets beat as well you now have two defenders greeting our backs when they take the handoff. IMHO the pass blocking grades were also aided mightily by both Dak's ability to shake off tacklers and run away from pressure as well as by Zeke's willingness to sacrifice his body by throwing it into a free runner into the backfield.

Don't forget about Erik Williams #79.

I have little doubt that if he were a better driver Big E would have surpassed the original Big Cat (Rayfield Wright) in Pro Bowls, All Pros and what not. Alas after he shredded that knee in the car accident he was never the same player. He was still pretty good.. but never again great..

He was not. Back problems have not emerged as an issue for Martin. The calf is the only thing he’s dealt with multiple times.

Zack Martin missed game 1 in 2021 due to Covid.

He played 96% of snaps in 2021. They gave backups a few snaps in the blowout wins.

He has played 120 of 129 possible regular season games in his career. One missed game was due to Covid.

He was a shell of himself after the accident but still made 2 more 1st team All Pros and 3 more Pro Bowls. No player has a more dominant 2 year stretch of games.

They would have won the 94 season NFC championship if he had played that game.

As long as Smith can give you ~12 healthy games, he's worth every penny of his salary. He's still in the elite class with Trent Williams and Bahktari at OT. Martin is in the same elite class at OG with Quentin Nelson.

Actually it was Tony Pollard being thrown into his ankle that cot him 5 full games and several others at less than full strength
Except it was Pollard that I think rolled up his ankle.
User you quoted was referring to the first Washington game when he said "300lb lineman crashing into his ankle"

He was cleared to come back and was looking good until 300+ lb McGovern got beat immediately off the line at the snap and crashed into his ankle.

That 2nd collision he never came back from (from that point on he was done for).

Yeah it's a shame.. After going under the knife, missing most of a season then training his arse off to be ready going into the next season, for Tyron to be taken out by friendly fire was just horrible. Cause he was kickin tail before he got dinged.

I think this is a pivotal year. If the Cowboys can get good production all season from Tyron Smith, D Lawrence and E Elliott then they have a chance to make some noise...even playoff noise. But those three guys are likely getting near the end of their highly productive NFL careers. I would take one more good year from them.....and I would be very optimistic for the Cowboys this season.

QB is not top5. #1 WR left in the offseason and Cedrick the security blanket. The holes on the OLine dim the brightest spots. Schultz is not a top 5 TE talent (prob 6-8). Play caller has some questionable days at the office. Does that sum it up?
