I had a chance to catch this game the other night on the NFL Network. Memories.

First, the Cowboys had some good players on Defense. In addition to Demarcus Ware they also had Jason Hatcher and Jay Ratliff playing DT. Sean Lee was the ILB with Bradie James and Victor Butler. Anthony Spencer was playing opposite Ware. Terence Newman, Mike Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick were the CBs. Barry Church was one of the safeties.

Good rookie class. Tyron Smith was drafted in the first round. Interesting note. He played RT in his rookie year and Doug Free played left tackle.

Tony Romo playing QB.

A couple of things stuck out to me watching the game. First, Dak is as good as if not better than Romo. Romo may be a bit better with the mental game.

The other thing is, The Clapper was just a bad HC. During the game the announcers were talking about how Garrett had called a time out as his own team was kicking a FG to win the game the previous week against the Cardinals. Dallas had to rekick and they missed the FG which sent the game to overtime where Dallas lost. That was the brilliance of Garrett.

The Cowboys lost 37-34 to the Giants. Eli made some unbelievable throws in desperation that worked out for the Giants but despite all the talent on defense they could not stop the Giants offense. It looked to me like the defense was a confused mess. Receivers were left uncovered all night including on a 42 yard TD to Mario Manningham when no one covered him. Bad loss for Dallas.

The play that lost the game was the pass that Austin lost in the lights.

On a NYG website they were discussing the game and they came to the same conclusion.

I think you're mistaken about Romo because the offense ran through him. It was always on his shoulders to carry the team. Since Prescott has been the starter the offense runs through the OL and running game for success.

With Romo you felt Dallas was never out of a game. I don't get that feeling with Prescott.

Our secondary was toast that year. That was Newman and Jenkins last season with the team. Church was alway just a average safety. Hatcher was a decent DT. Ware was ware. Spencer will always be known as Almost Anthony in my head.

Lol at Dak being on Romos level. Romo was the offense. Dak is a byproduct of the offense

when carrot top iced his own kicker he should have been fired on the spot. I will never forget that game.

I remember this game extremely clearly and bitterly. It was one of Romo's finest performances. He scorched the Giants for 4 TDs and no interceptions. Cowboys were up 34-22 with just minutes to play. Then the defense promptly choked as usual and a third down pass to Miles Austin was just baaaaarely beyond his reach.

They wasted Romo’s best years.

4-5 years of OC and 10 more years as HC was Garrett, Also ever there GM , commonalities which hurt the team.

Offense was prioritized , lot of good players but outdated scheme , defenses were poor scheme and personnel wise.

We lost, but with Romo you always felt you were in the game.

ugh, the "lost the ball in the lights" game, made worst by Collinsworth accusing Romo of "overthrowing" him.

I always said that the difference between Romo and Manning's careers was in their WRs.

Romo had
  • Crayton dropped pass
  • Crayton stopped route
  • Laurent Robinson not crossing defenders faces on slant routes
  • Martellus Bennett
  • Dez finger out of bounds
  • Dez CAUGHT it*
whereas Manning had:
  • David Tyree CATCHES it
  • Mario Manningham down the sideline
  • Victor Cruz drag route
  • Mario Manningham AGAIN down the sideline

Obviously more complicated than that, but so frustrating

So based on one game in 2011, you determined Dak is as good or better than Romo was.
Not that this was a terrible game for Tony but.....
Come on

What if someone pulled a few of Daks games in 2017, for example. You know, the ones where he looked like, at best, the 40th best QB in the league. Or even some selected ones from last year?

Do you think that would be a fair and true assessment?

Garrett had plenty of talent, he was just terrible. And the guy he picked to be his DC were also terrible.

14 year of Garrett ruining any chance of anything that we had going for us.

So you determined that Dak was better than Romo after watching a game where Romo went 21-31 for 321 yards and 4 TDs and zero int for a QB rating of 141? Simply brilliant, sir.

Yep!
Seems like Manning and his receivers always made the plays and Romo and his receivers couldn't. :(
