They don't want to re-sign him, at least not right now. The Browns are the ones that kind of screwed him. Dallas has him signed on the tag for $10 million. They can tag him again next year for $13 and change million. He now wants $14 million + thanks to the Browns. Dallas has no incentive to do it. They have him for the next 2 years for $23 million and a similar rookie they can watch develop. Why sign him for 4 or 5 years at $14 million + right now? Doing so makes no sense!

If there's anything that the Dallas Cowobys FO is sensitive to, it's getting the most bang for their buck. It's too bad they're not more efficient at doing so. They're intentions are good, but their abilities to carry out their intentions are bad, in many cases. It's a shame they're not more consistent. Sometimes, it takes lots of suffering to eventually get wise. Let's pray for such a miracle to be granted, at long last. Would Will McClay do much better? Maybe so.

Perhaps if we, eventually, get burned enough, good reasoning will dictate better judgment? So far, that hasn't been the case but then, practice makes perfect?! Well, let's hope so . . . these Jones boys are slow to see the forest for the trees. Let's hope it changes, before all is lost. It's only been 26 years and counting. What's another year or two at this point?! Do you see the sarcasm? It's high time for a good GM to save the day! Sorry, but it's true. o_O

good lol

unless u george kittle or some thing im not waisting cap space on a tight end ill draft another dalton schultz in the 4th or 5th

if i thought cowboys would do any thing with the cap space i would be mad they even franchise schultz to start with!
They have been trying to replace Witten long before he retired and Schultz is the best they have been able to come up with. They let him go and he will be picked up right away because he is better than you think.

Schultz is acting up with hopes of persuading Jerry to pay Schultz like a top 3 TE. That's not going to happen. Hope Jerry & Stephen stay firm and refuse to overpay for Schultz's services.

The Top 3 TE pay:

1) Kittle: $15 mil
2) Kelce: $14.3 mil
3) Goedert: $14.25 mil

No way Schultz is worth Top 3 pay. Offer him between $10 - $12 mil. If he refuses, let him go after this season.
This is exactly how I felt about Dak and many here said ahhh he won't be top paid in a couple years when the cap goes up. He's the next man up to get paid, it's just the way the NFL works.

If Shultz has a big season next year how much more money would make compared to signing a long term this season? Would the cap hit be that much more?

Good ..... He will be easily replaceable ...... Just like Jarwen was
.
Really? Jarwin’s career totals don’t even match Shultz’s last season stats. I get you don’t like Shultz but he is a top 10 NFL tight end. Jarwin is out of the league.

Can you blame Shultz’s agent. Jerrah paid everyone else.

I never liked Dak getting paid $40 mil/year. He's worth only $30 - $32 at the most. Jerry could have signed him for $28 mil/year 2+ years ago when Dak still had his original sports agent, but Jerry had to listen to the dumb mass of fans who egged him not to pay Dak back then. Instead, Jerry franchised tagged Dak twice to which it gave Dak time to switch agents to one who played hardball with Jerry and eventually stiff armed Jerry into paying Dak $40 mil/year. Blame Jerry and the majority of fans who were wrong for not jumping and signing Dak to $28/year 2+ years ago.

It depends on Dak. I just think Shultz is his second target. The man might get 100 receptions this season.
Very true.

Schultz had best not hold out and give rookie Jake Ferguson lots of 1st string reps with Dak. Schultz might end up regretting it if he wants to stay in Dallas.

schultz is a terrible blocker. I mean witten was overpaid but at least the dude was a decent blocker. Had a fair amount of untimely holding calls later in his career but he did a good job for Romo and to a lesser extent dak. I think I remember a game where if schultz just holds his block on the edge Zeke waltzes in the end zone and the cowboys most likely win i think it was tampa game but i cant remember for sure. I really want to see what ferguson brings to the table anyway

they do not want a long term deal at 10M plus thus the desire to have multiple years to draft TE.

Its not just top 3 guys getting paid.
Gesicki also got franchised and Geodert got nearly 15M a year.
Njoku got 14m a year.

And I don’t blame them for that position. I didn’t even want them paying him the tag amount this year. For a game-changer at the position? Sure. But not for a solid, check-down target.

I doubt the FO has seriously looked into an extension with Schultz and it's probably due to just waiting till the last second in their game of chicken with his agent.

I hope Ferguson is a good as you think. They will draft a tight end early next year is my guess.

I am sure ATL has called and offered Pitts and a first for the services of Touchdown machine Dalton Schultz.
I didn’t even insinuate that. Merely, it doesn’t cost anything to see if they’d be willing to deal and the price.
