in 2004 I took a trip to Mesa AZ, and on the way back my timing belt came apart in Sierra Blanca. Ended up having to tow my car back to El Paso, because the mechanic there said it would take a week to get a timing belt to his place. That was the one time I really hated that drive. Sierra Blanca is not a fun town to get stuck in.

The biggest fear making that drive is breaking down along the way. I bought a Honda Fit just to make that drive. A friend has one and told me it was the most dependable car he’s ever driven. I didn’t have a single issue the entire round-trip. I used to rent cars to make long trips but I don’t trust them.

Sheesh, Austin is becoming LA. You're basically in the same city now, different state.

Take your camera.

Food is decent in Oxnard.

You probably won't want to wear long sleeves or pants the whole time, but bring a windbreaker or something for the evening because it can get windy there.

Moved earlier this year from Austin to Los Angeles. Have a cousin who lives in Oxnard, and plan on visiting her and attending my first training camp. Any tips to give for a first timer? I got that Cowboys United membership, and hope it is worth the $20. Anything else I should know, and are any of you attending this season? (Don't want to go into why I moved from Austin to Los Angeles, but it's a 2 year deal.)
Yes drink plenty of water

Be the 1st one there.

The membership (Was True Blue previously) sometimes helps you get better access to the best spots to watch.

Wear glasses with a video camera built-in. Just leave it running for the entire practice. Upload and post the link here.

Training camps in Austin and Wichita Falls were horrible experiences.

Wichita Falls was awful. Hot as hell. Having said that I got to get up close and personal with George Teague and Emmitt at a local bar playing pool. That was pretty cool.

you can actually park your school... I think at a school and get bussed over(free) so you dont have to pay for parking . You only get to go to one side now and it is where the defense practices. Definitely get there early. Crowds arent too bad as long as you dont go to the scrimmage. If your a veteran, I think that got me down closer to the field. Honestly, for me, it just isnt that fun anymore. You used to be able to go to either field (they have2) but the field where the offense practices now has condos/townhouses on that side right over the fence they built to separate the field from the houses. There is barely any space over there now, so you are mostly limited to the bleachers seats (in the sun) on the defensive field. I literally just sat in my seat the entire time, vs walking up and down the sidelines. We used to be so close we could actually talk with players, not any more. You used to be near where the players enter and come on the field, not anymore. My daughter got my 11x18 Dez Bryant picture signed, interacted with a super friendly Twill... I think those days are mostly over unless you are part of the very few that pay BIG bucks to have that special access.

Make sure you have sun screen and a hat, preferably a bucket hat if you have one. Parking SUCKS Id avoid it. You can no park out in those residential areas. You will come back to no car and a big bill to get it from the impound yard. There are 2 golf course (in one) that is literally right behind the training camp facility. My daughter and I always golfed in the morning and then training camp in the afternoon. Used to be a great time until the area kept taking their space from them.... or us I should say.

Sun screen

wear a hat and shades

you need a jersey

get the membership card. It’s like 20 bucks. It used to get you field access, pre virus. The far side is the best for photos.

the first weekend is packed. You might have to take a shuttle from Oxnard High School.

there is parking at the practice. 20 bucks.

it’s a lot of fun.

No field access, there is no far side... you get 1 side now.
Parking 20 bucks is now terrible
not so much fun anymore...lol

One favor.....don't be one of those who treats Jerry like a rock star.
Jerry is a rock star... just go to any away game and see how hes treated. You may not like it, but I live in the real reality, not the alternate one....

I would go see the Rams or Chargers...real teams. Or print a fake press pass and bring a microphone. Maybe Jethro will bump into you.

The 'follow the crowd' reality?

People are for some reason, moved when they see a public figure in person, so are you wrong? No.

But I'm not sure what that has to do with what I asked of the OP.

Best tip is don't go. But if you do .heckle and boo to the point of getting tossed out.
Laugh in Jerry's face and let him know he sucks and it should be a criminal offense what he's turned this once great franchise into.
