Dallas Cowboys: RB Ezekiel Elliott

..

While Elliott posted big numbers, the Cowboys won only a single playoff game and didn't get past the divisional round. Meanwhile, his salary-cap charge this season is $18.2 million. Then he's under contract for the next four campaigns and the number never dips below $14.3 million.

By trading him now, the Cowboys can save $12.4 million toward this year's salary cap, which can be rolled over to 2023. Unsurprisingly, the Cowboys are in the red going into next offseason.

C'mon, what are the Cowboys getting for Elliott? Trade Shultz, see if anyone bites for a first rounder. If Dak craps the bed this year we can package those two picks to move up in the draft for a QB. My opinion, no one gives us a first for him. But it's worth a try.

Not going to get much for Zeke in a trade, he’s more valuable to the Cowboys than anyone else. He can still push the pile and move the chains and he’s an excellent blocker.

Only team I could see doing this would be Balty. Having said that the Jones are not letting him go and I would not be surprised if he restructures next year. This is about marketing folks.

A 1st for Schultz? LOL. That's the kind of email the team sends out to all 31 teams and gets nothing but memes in response.

I think they'll trade or release Zeke after this season, for cap reasons. With his contract we might get a 6th for him.

They'd be lucky to get a 4th for Shultz. He's not even a top 10 TE.

#1. No one is trading for zeke and his contract.
#2 Stephen Jones is the worst at trading away assets and getting something in return.

There are not any teams that would take his contract even if the Cowboys accepted a practice squad player in return.
this is probably true, no other team is stupid enough to pay that much for a rb !
jerry likes elliot for whatever reasons, who knows why, and it has hurt the team, as pollard hasnt been used enough , so they wasted him, and he could have
helped had he been played more.
the time to get rid of big E was when he held out for extension.

they are now stuck with dak and E and pollard will continue to be wasted.

Dallas could have got mac jones, or the one TB got and maybe had a QB
as good as dak or better after a year or 2.

yeah him and daddy are both really bad at that.
and that hurts in team building. they also keep players too long and until they are worthless or a FA.

The Cowboys seem to think otherwise. Tell me something, do you franchise tag someone you think can only get you a 4th rounder?

I think the only reason he had a break out season was due to the attention elsewhere. This was predicted by people on these forums before the season started. About any TE we were playing.

No 1st obviously but he’s on a below market contract and we’ll get a 4th compo pick for him in 2024 if he leaves.

Not sure why we would want to trade him though, I’d want at least a 2nd (which he’s not worth) because it kind of blows up the offense. Maybe a 3rd/4th mid-season if playoff chances are out of the picture. It’s a good cap dump then.

Really we shouldn’t look at trading before the trade deadline. We could then go the way of the Rams if we are looking good, or dump some salary and reload for 2023.

If we’re doing badly we should probably look at Brown, Shultz, Pollard and Zeke as potential trade options. If we’re doing well we might want to consider a LB, WR, 1T or covering an injury.

No one is trading a 1st for Schultz. You are getting maybe a mid 3rd. The only players Dallas has who could get a 1st in a trade are: Dak, Diggs, Parsons, and arguably Martin (age might make him only get a 2nd in a trade).
