True story. Since the Cowboys players and coaches are on "vacation", Jerry Jones turns to the bright minds of the CZ Community for guidance and inspiration for what to do next with the Cowboys. :D

There is a 99.9% likelihood you will never give Jones credit. Nothing he has done in business or expressed publicly during the past 33 years suggests he will ever sell the franchise. Of course, anything is possible.

Jones deserves all the credit in the world for the way he handled the Cowboys in the beginning. He hired a football guy in Jimmy and got the hell out of the way. He let Jimmy sign and cut players and be the coach. Jerry's EGO couldn't handle Jimmy getting so much credit. Even Switzer won with Jimmy's team. For 27 years now, Jerry has failed this organization. Jerry keeping the Cowboys newsworthy means nothing without team success.

I agree with practically everything you said except for the part about ego. If the word should be used to describe Jones, it should be “ego on steroids.” It’s a narcissist’s thing.

What does reciting what happened the past 33 years have to do with your earlier statement with the condition Jones would receive respect after selling the team? Because he won’t sell. That is all I said earlier.

The Cowboys WERE the spotlight of the NFL long before Jerry came along, and they would still have been America's Team if any other rich guy bought the team. Not saying Jerry is not a master businessman.

The Cowboys we're losing money before Jerry bought them.

I do think we have to consider the possibility that a different owner would not have hired Johnson, who was a college buddy of Jerry. There were a lot of dominoes that fell into place when Jerry bought the team that resulted in us winning three Super Bowls, which did help add to what Landry and Schramm had established. Some fans likely would have jumped ship without those three Super Bowls ... IF we had also experienced the drought we have since then.

As we've both said, Dallas was America's Team long before Jerry came along, but I don't know if it could have sustained its status if those first few years had been like the last 20-plus. Hard to keep being America's Team with just two Super Bowl titles IMO. Of course, the reverse of that is maybe we'd have even more than five with a different owner than Jerry.

No he isn't capable of winning Super Bowls without Jimmy Johnson building a team for him. But let's give credit when it's due.

There is no other person alive who could have somehow keep the Cowboys national media spotlight as bright as it is, especially with all of the playoff mediocrity. That does take a special gift! And no sarcasm here.

You mean to tell me that a team that hasn't won a SB in close to 30 years still remains the most important team in all professional sports? How is that even possible?

Love him or hate him, you have to give it up to Jerry Jones and his mentally challenged son Stephen!
No ****** way. NEVER. EVER.

I think Jerry is the only one who would have hired Jimmy, because he was a friend, and hiring college coaches wasn't as common then. Had a different person bought the team, they probably would have kept Landry for a while, and had the same terrible results they had in the last few years of his tenure. Considering the financial shape the team was in, they might have even gone under, and we'd have no more Dallas Cowboys.

Not sure. Jimmy was a hot name at the time. But certainly, there's no guarantee that Jimmy would have ended up in Dallas.

I am sure it's been said already. The reason why we haven't won a SB is because of him. The reason why the Cowboys are still relevant is because Jerry is a master salesmen and we have a WHOLE BUNCH of fans that just continue to buy and buy and buy and buy despite us basically being the Lions. So no, Jerry gets no credit.
