So much for any hope of the service being more affordable. The league already came out to say that they absolutely just could not lower the price because of the existing contracts. Oh darn it. Apple makes quality products but they do not do cheap. And unlike DIRECTV they don’t have to give out free yearly service and discounts to get people to subscribe to their other services. I think that the price is going to go up quite a bit. Oh well, I can access the two or three Cowboys games I miss on local stations through other technologies

dont mix up Product's with services apple tv can not even get on the radar iof DTV when it comes to high end TV serves etc they are light years ahead in subscribers ..apple far smaller and a niche and need viewership

trust me they will have to give away things to gte to that subscriber break even point..apple sells phones and tablets DTV has been the king of satellite and tv for very long time and are also adjust to the live/Wi-Fi\ streaming delivered tv but please dont mix up two companies who are not the same at all. DTV is bigger than the top 3 streaming services combined like youtube, apple and others..they lose more customers monthly then those serviced even have in total

so how does this effect local viewership? i mean if we live in the DFW market we shouldn't affected we get most if not all of the games. Or will they force us to subscribe to see some games ie lock out locals as well.???

At $300 per year, they need 10M subscribers just to break even.

Sunday Ticket currently has about 2 million subscribers, but I believe about 25% of them are on a discounted plan.

We'll have to see how Apple offers the Sunday Ticket package but I don't see how they grow subscribers to 5 times the current base without lowering the price for everyone. DirecTV was losing $500 million per year.

But Apple has cash to burn so maybe there is something else Apple has in mind.

The goal is to get some portion of that for the Sunday Ticket and then let those people help bring in other subscribers by talking up other shows.

It is how Fox used to build up their network shows. Use football to prop up everything else.
Fox used that to drive ratings, the revenue base. Apple is subscriber dependent so they need current subscribers to pay more for that or hope to generate more subscribers.

It makes sense for them because of the big 4, Amazon, Disney and Netflix, Apple is the most content challenged. I just don't know what the Sunday Ticket universe is in numbers but for DirecTV it was about 2M. But the subscriber had to pay a lot more for DirecTV than Apple is. I get Apple+, Music and Games for about 16 a month. My DirecTV is 120. Biiiiig difference.

NFL getting another big corporation used to steadily send them large sums of money. A corporation that hadnt in the past. Apple has MLB games on Friday nights. I have not heard many positives about the product.

They are losing the streaming content race to Amazon, Netflix and Disney and the others like Hulu, Peacock and Paramount are cutting into the streaming pie.

I haven't seen any updated numbers but the last research, in a stronger economy than now, had the budget at 40 per month with 4 sources. There wasn't clarity on how Amazon people viewed theirs. I don't consider them a streamer but a bonus for the free 2 day shipping and Whole Foods 10% discount.

I do like the Red Zone Channel because I do not have the patience to watch herky jerky full NFL games any longer. The interruptions and ads have driven me away from that.

Is the Sunday Ticket the new Napster? No entity has turned a profit on the Ticket and the NFL has them lined up to pay 3B? Apple execs "OK, we'll lose money on every deal and make it up in the volume".

So glad I found a way to get it for free every season for the past 4 years at least.

Probably a big picture strategy which I believe Amazon is using. Use the NFL to integrate themselves into the life of the average person who isnt an currently an Amazon prime member. Hopefully once the new customer finds them "indispensable" they continue paying the monthly fees beyond the NFL season or signs up for a year.

They don't get one red cent from this end. Cowboys are mostly televised & when they're not, I stream them for FREE. Take a bite out my apple, APPLE. :lmao:

I can see it now, in 2025 we're going to be chatting about the good ole days of DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket, discounted subscriptions or how we got ST free for a year. I've gotten several seasons comp'd with DirecTV and do believe those days are gone. In a year or so we'll find out, but i suspect Apple+ retention section will be like a Saturday Night Live sketch on customer discounts.

I've had the Sunday Ticket for years, but what I really want is just the Red Zone Channel only. They need to provide an option for just that.
Not sure if you don’t mind looking at RedZone thru your mobile phone but for the last couple of years, the RedZone have been available on the NFL app at $35 for the entire season.

The con is you don’t know if the option is available until the season actually begins. Last year, it wasn’t available until the Sunday week 1 games were about to start.

They are simply rebroadcasting the feed, they do not sell ads, do they? If they do with about 2M watching, good luck with the rates on that.
If they show live sports they'll get some type of ad content during games.
Likely a mix of pimping their own shows and products as well as other stuff that has deal with apple already.
But his point is very valid. They do not need to make to the cent on subscriptions to break even or make money.
The content will help push other content and drive to subscriptions to non-NFL fans.

Yeah, me too as I'm already an Amazon Prime user. I don't own any apple products in my home!! I have an Android phone. I'm sure I could stream it on my Fire Stick, but I just don't want to subscribe to yet ANOTHER streaming service!! :(

Same boat Im in, Im already subscribed to like everything, Apple has been one of the last holdouts that I refuse.
