It's a different story for just about everybody's Pro Day workouts. When was the last time a guy ran SLOWER at his pro day? Pro Days are set up to make the player look good. I pretty much ignore them all. In reality none of these guys will ever be as fast as they were during the run up to the draft because they all pretty much quit sprint training to any degree the minute their names are called on draft day. Not that they won't be fast.. but they simply will never be as lean and finely tuned for speed as they were during that process. Some guys are exceptions and they keep training for speed throughout their careers. But most do not..

Speaking of speed training .. that’s what I am seriously wondering about Zeke’s offseason training. If he is continuing with Skip Hicks as a ‘personal trainer .. where he’ll slim-fast
de-hydrate it down in the spring, and then hydrate- balloon it up again come reg season ?

Is still doing the Skip Hicks method only with the sweat bags and jumping around cones ?
Instead of the track & field to increase (regain) agility ala his high hurdle ..and short area/long speed ?

ZKE had a track field background which no doubt set a standard with his long speed at OSU and 2016, why would he not focus more in that area of speed training

I thought I’d see him at per say Michael Johnson training program than doing the Skip Hicks again.

I agree. We had multiple injuries and had to move some people around. Who was the bum playing next to Smith. Conner Williams I think, he was never going to be strong enough. Baidas is on his last breath for me. We should have paid Looney for another year. Loosing Fredbeard hurt bad. But this O-Line hasn’t played the same since new O-Line coach took over. Technique seems different. I don’t watch college ball, do you know if the O-Line we drafted is any good.

Amen brother.. I honestly don't understand why they were so anxious to send Looney packing. He was never going to be an all pro like Fredbeard but dude was solid and reliable. I'm 100% with you on the line play wince Philbin was hired. Other than that nice 4 game stretch early last season the running game has been sporadic at best. They ran for at least 200 yards 7 times in 2018 and 2019.. And did it a total of twice in 2020 and 2021 combined. They've fallen off.. badly.

Yeah I'd rather see him doing more long speed training as well but somewhere along the way either he alone or him in concert with the Cowboys decided that he needed to bulk up and be more of a battering ram than a gazelle. He went from 218 his rookie season to 228-235 before last year's slimming down when he got back down to 218 and it showed in his early season performance. But not only did the knee injury cost him game day performance but you know it cost him the ability to train during the week as well. So I'm sure he bulked back up after he got hurt.

The fact of the matter is for a running back the ability to zip from zero to sixty in a short space is more valuable than the ability to take it the distance. So I think Hicks has them working on the right things. I just think he could have both if he also did more training on the long speed. But if you're only going to work on one or the other.. the quick burst drills are the one you should favor every time. The other change has to be his mentality .. now that he's not getting 20-25 carries he can't approach attacking a defense thinking he will wear them down. You aint wearin nobody down on 12-15 carries. So Zeke needs to stop pacing himself and stop seeking out contact. Treat every run like you may never get the ball again.. so try and score every time.

It’s MM style. He came here and is running it like he ran packers. He could have had a killer run game with this O-Line if he hired a run game coach for the line. Seem more of a pass game O-Line play and running is secondary and used to keep you guessing. We let Looney go with JG to the giants. He wasn’t asking for much money. He went to the giants and retired before the season started. I think he was bummed by not being picked up by his favorite team. He was a solid player that would have really helped the O-Line when Collins fell off. Now we are left a mess with a coach that is not worthy of this run first team. I just hope we get back to run strong and first and set up the pass. Imposing our will on teams is what gives us that swag. Let’s get it back and improve the D.

2016 Zeke was an absolute super star. Pollard could never hope to be in that class. 2022 Zeke is a turd. Pollard is the better option now.

Prolly should let it play out first. You're a bitter too giddy about your prediction.

I still don't get why there seems to be such a need to take sides. Both of these running backs are among our top 11 offensive players and both should be used as much as possible in whatever roles allow that to happen the most. You don't put either on the bench for a receiver who hasn't accomplish much in this league or a third-round pick who has accomplished nothing ... unless they absolutely prove that they are better.

Elliott and Pollard should be on the field together for at least 60 percent of the snaps, with the two splitting the other 40 percent.

MM's OL coach is his long time buddy Joe Philibin, he didn't want to keep on OL coach Marc Columbo, who operated under a man-scheme that emphasize power blocking.
Philibin is part of the Packers zone scheme way of operating,.. blocking for an area, pass off, trapping and pulling, i dunno if it plays up to our OL's strength.
but that's the only thing i believe McCarthy has brought here in Dallas.

Looney was a JAG, dunno why he was always trying to help out with Zack Martin when he should've been helping out with Conner Williams.

I’m top of having everything else over him. He can get that back if he commits to totaling less hits and better conditioning.

Looney got help from Martin when he filled in for Fredbeard. They held it together for the most part. But Looney could play most positions averagely. That’s a good backup to have..worth the 2 million or so a year he was paid..

We are a power blocking team. We take out our man and get to the next level. That’s what springs Elliot to the next level or makes the move to the outside where the WR secures blocks to let him be gone.. Time for MM to leave his buddy home and get with a coach that will help the team and help make MM look good..

I don't think this gets talked about enough when we are lamenting the disappearance of long runs from the Cowboys offense. Other than Noah Brown our receivers simply are all a net negative as blockers. Almost all long runs in the NFL feature one or more great downfield blocks.. because in most cases the slowest cornerbacks on the field are faster than the fastest running backs on the field. Throw in the fact that our tight ends are all below average run blockers and we have a serious problem getting to edges and getting to the second level. In the Chargers game alone last year Pollard had 2 or 3 runs that could have gone the distance if one stinkin receiver would have come over and participated in the play. Same with Zeke's 47 yarder against Carolina. The only people in the picture for the last 25-30 yards of the run were Zeke and the dbs chasing him. One receiver hustling over and just getting in the way of the DBs and that thing ends up in the end zone.. But I guess we can't blame Philbin for the receivers not blocking can we? I do miss Dez and TWill in that regard. Those two never let a long run go without getting into the action.

This line has gotten steadily worse since Leary departed. Not that they are chopped liver but they are not 2016 by a long shot

Ironically the line as currently constituted is more like the 90's line than when they were younger. Meaning they can maul a defensive line.. and in fact mauling should be their chosen mode of attack. Back in the 2014-2016 days they were younger, more athletic and worked better in space. The group they have now are a little older, a little fatter and a little stronger. So IMHO less emphasis needs to be placed on all this movement and trickeration and get down to some good ole fashioned mano-a-mano smash mouth football. I think Tyron can play that style.. Martin can play that style and I believe the new kid can as well. I also think at 6'6" 320 pounds Terence Steele can as well. Leaving only Biadasz as the only question mark. Time will tell I guess.

Who really cares who’s faster. I care about picking the right holes, picking up your blocks. Not taking yourself out of the football game because you get a little gassed , I care about not tripping over your own ego on the goal line in the playoffs
