T. Smith may be the biggest "boom or bust" pick in the draft.

That award probably goes to Travon Walker, but Smith is definitely up there. There is no doubt he has the physical tools. All he has to do is clean up the sloppy penalties.

I actually think his bust potential is pretty low. I'll be surprised if he doesn't end up as at least a good guard, which is okay for the 24th pick.

Now, he might not be at all ready to be a good guard this year. But that doesn't make him a bust. It might make the team's short-term plans a bust, but that's not the player's fault.

His 1st bad play, he will be labeled a bust. You know how it works. :lmao:

As long as he has a better career than Jermaine Johnson. The player we should have taken.

If I was rolling the dice in Vegas, TS was a solid roll.
Bet P has to dial him down a bit.

Therein lies the rub, sort of.
Don't recall any mock drafts (proably viewed up to 3 dozen) that had Tyler Smith being a first round pick for Dallas - or any other team.
Looked back at a few draft projections.
Draftwire stated Smith would be a day 2 selection = no. 50, although they added his upside could push him into a late 1st-round pick.
Bleacher Report: Smith's position rank- OT7, overall rank- 64; 3rd round.
NFL.com....day 2.
Pro Football Network- day 2__possible top 50.

My ideal draft and it could have fallen this way. Was Jermaine Johnson, Travis Jones, Tolbert, and Jamaree Salyer.

Could have done that without even trading up I believe.

He better be a great player, because they passed on a Center that will be in the Pro Bowl next year...and then for the next 12-14 years. Therefore, Smith deserves ZERO "time to grow" from me.

Absolutely a crap shoot no matter his ranking by anyone. Till he sets foot on that field when it counts his ranking is as good as anyone else who is a rookie. Draftniks get rankings wrong all of the time.

Yes. I may be being naive, but I don't think he has high bust potential as a guard. If we had drafted him just as a tackle, I'd feel a little shakier about it.
