:huh: A lot of speculation here, in fact, a hell of a lot.

Speculation? Go around the country and take a poll of the top athletes. Ask them why they are busting their butts and what they hope to gain from their efforts. Parsons admitted himself that he is after a big pay day.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was determined that less than 20% of everyone currently playing in the NFL is only doing it because they love the game. The rest are after the money.

The Athletic said Amazon will offer time shifting on TNF this season. I hope Apple (or whoever) does that for Sunday Ticket.

Fact or speculation or perhaps stereotyping? The truth is you are throwing a pretty wide net.

the top athletes would either switch to other sports or not do anything at all. Very few play for the love of the game. Most would just go back to their lives before college, and in many cases that could be detrimental to their lives and well being.

Apple's the only streaming service that offers only original content. If Apple wanted to be Netflix or Disney, Apple would buy Netflix or Disney. Or any number of other media companies. The company has had good chances to acquire both Apple and Disney more than once if it wanted to but apparently being another massive catalog entertainment distributor is not in Apple's plans. Apple has been buying talent and screen projects, not content libraries, and you can argue whether the company is achieving it's goal but its stated mission is "Quality, not quantity."

Apple doesn't need ST to be a huge money maker. Apple has been dropping billions on content creation and now it's going after live sports to round out its appeal. If Apple does get ST it will be a drop in Apple's revenue bucket. What Apple needs is the halo effect of the NFL to shine light on AppleTV+ content and AppleTV hardware, so I'm betting ST will be packaged as friendly to consumers as the NFL will let Apple get away with.

The NFL app is available on Google TV, AppleTV, Fire TV, PlayStation, Roku and XBOX.

Whatever their goal is, they are failing and lagging behind the others in that business.

I have Apple, Amazon, Disney and Netflix and Apple is a far distant 4th in quality and quantity. If not for their bonusing to product buyers, they wouldn’t even be an afterthought. They are not a player and hoping this will help that. In streaming, content is king and they are not even a prince.

I am not a fan of apple getting ST. I have a iPhone but that’s it. Their iPhones and Mac machines make them all the money. There stock is going up so I am guessing it maybe because they are getting ST. Guessing they are going to spend the chunk of money to get in the game. If I know them it won’t be cheap to get it. Maybe NFL will give us other choices. I hear they are making the NFL+ App so I imagine they will sell it there also.

They are also trying to play keep away from the better streamers.

3B a year buys an awful lot of programming on AZ, Nflix or Disney. And programming is the name of the game,

I can take Apple+ or leave it. The 3 series I started watching, The Morning Show, For All Mankind and Ted Lasso all went downhill in the 2nd seasons. I may give Hulu another shot.

Yeah I was hoping Amazon may get it. Oh well hopefully NFL+ makes streaming possible for individual teams.

The NFL is lucky they can find entities that do not have to show a profit on their investment. Years back, the NBC Pres execute his fiduciary responsibility by letting the AFC contract go because it was a loser in revenue but then had to come back for the promo part of it. Fox used that to start building their network.

Hell, nobody makes money on the NFL but the NFL.

I carried the Cowboys on my sports AM station until they asked for money and then let it go. They came back because they couldn't find anyone else in So. OK to carry it. I do not know if the present flagship station in Dallas makes any money on it but KVIL, KLUV and The Ticket didn't. Too many Cowboys sponsor exclusions.

If you don't know what the company's goal is how do you know they're failing? Everyone has different tastes but Apple has won scads of awards for its content and is the only streaming service to win a Best Picture Oscar, and they've done it at a fraction of the cost in a fraction of the time it's taken Netflix and Prime to not be able to do the same thing. Prime has been around in one form or another since 2006. Netflix has been around since 1997, launched its streaming service in 2007 and began producing originals in 2009. AppleTV+ has been around since November 1st 2019 and I think it's pretty amazing what they've achieved in such a short period of time.

Like I said: if Apple wanted to be Disney or Netflix they would have bought one or the other, or both, or some of the huge content libraries that have been auctioned off over the past half-decade. They had more money than anybody. But as a computer company Apple is choosing a different business model than the entertainment companies that buy up reams of content and crank out shows and movies like it's going out of style. If you think Apple couldn't have been doing the same, consider that the company has more cash on hand right now than the market caps of any of these companies except for Amazon.

I don't know why Apple wants Sunday Ticket any more than you do but I do know it's not a desperate attempt to become Disney or Netflix. If that's what Apple wanted it had easier, sure avenues and the resources to get what it wanted a long time before now.

KTBC, Austin, is the Fox that serves this area.

I just received notice that DTV is giving me Sunday Ticket Max for free again this season. I think that's kind of weird since they are giving it up. What if I liked it so much for free that they made me a customer of Apple+? However, they know I have had it in the past. I used to play the "cable game" with them and get it for free and had to pay for the RZC, which was really all I wanted. I had ST for free last year and did not watch one game but I did use the RZC to avoid commercials. Andrew Siciliano is an alien but he does a really good job. His ears are so big, he can hear all of the games wherever they're played, even in London.

I moved things around last year to pay for it. The year before they charged me. Been a customer for 30 years with them and got it every year they had ST. When I dropped them I let them know they basically gave it for free to many of my friends the last 2 years for free when they charged me one year and barely gave me a discount last year. Let them know this was the reason I was dropping them and ST was the only reason I paid the inflated price year around was for that sweet time of the year I could watch football. They said throw my equipment away because it was old and if I wanted to sign back up or keep service I could have it for free this season. No thanks. It was temping but was a 12 month agreement. They lost me when the last 5 years they picked and chose people to give it to and put the screws to long time customers.

PS. If I can’t get the game I am coming over. Make extra..

The NFL needs to get Sunday Ticket into the 21st century. If you're going to make an app then just make ST a product fans can purchase in your app.

Tying it to a 3rd party service is an antiquated concept, but a few billion guaranteed is nothing to sneeze at either. As always, follow the money.

Seriously, MLB.TV has been around for 20 years. I've never understood why the NFL has limited it's viewership to TV only and you have to get a DirecTV package.

I could see them going pay per view for the playoffs. Just not the Super Bowl.
All playoff games broadcast individually and nationwide now no need for a pay per view system. Now I think a pay per view system in season would work.

That's how boxing was at one point too. Wasn't it?

We pretty much have to pay for out of market games now.
