Two points:
  • Hasn’t the owner chosen to make himself the centerpiece of this team?
  • You’re always welcome to disagree with anything. But why comment on posts you have not read? Just my opinion.
I went back and read it....still a Booger bash

We all want the same thing as Cowboys fans. We all want to win.

Anyone paying attention to what winning NFL organizations do- especially those winning SBs- would notice that it takes more than just talent to win in this league. In fact, in this current cap era, the teams that can best proactively plan, maneuver around the cap and develop a well coached, cohesive roster are the teams winning SBs.

Obviously, being only 1 of 3 NFC teams not even win a divisional playoff game the last 26 years says we haven’t been doing enough right. That’s obvious. But there are some things we do well as an organization. Just not enough.

Here is a list of what we do well and don’t do well and how making some improvements could make a huge difference:
WHAT WE DO WELL AS AN ORGANIZATION

  • Selling and marketing the product. No front office in the NFL is better at selling hype, hope, jerseys, tickets and advertising partners than the Cowboys. Now that doesn’t win games but…we are talking about things we do well, lol.
  • Provide quality training facilities- the Cowboys have one of the best practice and training facilities for a sports franchise in the world. Facilities are second to none. That’s important.
  • Scout and Draft Talent- we have really improved in this area the last decade under Will McClay. Except for a weird habit of Jerry’s to take unnecessary risks in round 2, we’ve done pretty well at finding talent.
  • The organization is willing to pay to keep its best drafted talent- the organization is not afraid to make a financial commitment to its best players. Sometimes (lime with Zeke) Jerry may even be too quick to be generous. But that’s probably better than having a cheapskate owner.
WHAT WE DO NOT DO WELL
  • Hire the best head coaches- let’s be honest. Since Jimmy left, (other than Parcells) Jerry has been very reluctant to hire top shelf head coaches. Guys like Chan Gailey, Dave Campo, Wade Phillips and Jason Garrett would never make a list of good NFL HCs. Jerry seems to always fear he will be overshadowed by the HC so he hires for his own comfort more than hiring a winner.
  • Accountability- any organization serious about being the best MUST have accountability starting at the very top all the way down. When the owner’s children have lifetime contracts without any way to hold them accountable for on field results, you have a huge accountability problem.
  • Manage the cap aggressively- look at the teams winning SBs lately- the rams, bucs and chiefs are all led by aggressive GMs who are held accountable to “win now” and act accordingly. While Stephen Jones laughs and spews his garbage about “keeping our powder dry”, people like Les Snead of the rams are quietly making big moves to make their team better now. And Snead doesn’t have a radio show.
  • Delegating authority- we all know Jerry micromanages. It doesn’t work. Hire great people and let them do their jobs is a truth for ALL organizations. Who’s in charge of the locker room? Who makes all the major decisions? Who’s the de-facto “face of the franchise”? If it’s the same person for all and he’s the owner, it’s tough to build the right kind of organization.
  • Following a consistent blueprint for success- Jerry himself says he doesn’t reflect on his mistakes. One of his mistakes is his inability to shut up and with discipline and self control follow a long term plan for roster building.
  • Being quiet- it’s amazing how much jabbering we get from the Jones boys. If they would just simply shut their mouths for a while it would literally help the team. But JJ has to crow. I’m hard pressed to find an organization where the owner/GM talk so much.
This list could go on and on…If I could pick 3 things to change about this organization and how it does business it would be:
  1. Hire a great HC and let him do his job.
  2. Have some accountability at the top for failure. Maybe SJ isn’t the guy to be in charge of the cap.
  3. Shut up Jerry and Stephen. Just close your mouth. Zip it. It will truly help your team and those you hired to help it win.
Why do fans think a guy who owns a football team should shut up about his football team ?
I just don’t get the thinking
It’s his team
If you don’t like what he has to say you don’t have to listen to it
I don’t

That has changed in my opinion.

Hire the best head coaches
McCarthy might not be "the best" but he is a legit NFL Head Coach.
- McCarthy is the 1st HC hire by Stephen Jones.

Manage the cap aggressively
- They were the most aggressive team with regards to the cap for over a decade.
- They peaked out against the cap early in 2013 when Romo had 1 year remaining on his contract.
- Prior to Romo signing a new contract which lowered his 2013 cap hit, they were completely maxed out vs the cap.
- They restructured a backup QB just to free up 100K in cap space.
- They had restructured all possible contracts.

Accountability
- Stephen Jones is the opposite of Jerry in this regard.
- It was Stephen that pushed Garrett out the door and hired McCarthy while Jerry was still having meeting with Garrett.
- DC Mike Nolan, 1 and done.
- Dez...cut.
- DLaw...take a pay cut or more on.

Very fair and well written.
If I could change one thing, it would be for Jerry to step aside and hire a quality GM.

Didn't read it....I just know that it's overkill....

Maybe if you quit sticking your head in the sand you might learn a thing or two. Your beloved Jerry ain't cutting it. Typical Jerry and Dak apologists..., don't want to hear facts that might hurt their weak perceptions.

I'll take my head out of the sand if you take yours outta your backside. I don't apologize for them, I criticize too, just not over and over again.

One good thing I think the Cowboys do is provide loyalty to their coaches. Winners aren't built overnight, and even good coaches can have bad seasons due to factors beyond their control. The Ravens finished 4th in the NFC North this year... that's not an indictment on Harbaugh. Kyle Shanahan is seemingly only able to either win 4 games or go on a deep playoff run.

In a league that's very "what have you done for me lately", the Cowboys are willing to commit to coaches and give them second and third chances, and I think that's a net positive for the organization.

Their problem is that they commit to some very questionable coaches. Jason Garrett, enough said. Rod Marinelli, I don't know why he stayed in so long over an up-and-comer like Eberflus. Linehan, blech. I've already seen enough of McCarthy.

I still think the team's loyalty to Kellen Moore will pay dividends, and Dan Quinn is probably going to be the head coach here sooner rather than later.

You identify your franchise QB, put a good offensive line in front of him, then build up on the defensive side of the ball. Patriots 101.

Tom Brady only produced one co-future hall of famer... Gronk.

Rodney Harrison will eventually get in, Edelman will likely get in, Adam V, Wilfork, and Aaron Hernandez was certainly on his way. Randy Moss put up the best season of his career after being a cast off.

But also Tom is the greatest player of all time lol. Sign me up for that blueprint please

Yeah....ah, No.

Edelman and Wilfork don't have the numbers. Aaron is dead. And I said produced by Brady, so that only includes offensive skill players.

You may be right about McCarthy. The jury is still out. I’m not sure I’m with you on accountability. Stephen may have helped get Garrett and Dez out but what kind of accountability is there for him? And I can’t see SJ as being a good cap management guy the last few years.

This team has not judged the talent on the roster well during the salary cap era. A big reason why it hasnt been competitive during that time. Also it doesnt foster a culture of winning isnt everything, it is the only thing.

We are either the most loyal fans in the world supporting this ownership despite how they operate our favorite franchise or the most gullible for still believing in them.

We (at least most of us, Imo) are the former.

Cowboys are the NFL team I follow. Will be until my dying day. Which will hopefully be after they hoist at least one more SB trophy. (Would like them to have the most trophies).

The only exception would be if there is clear evidence that the team has no intention of trying to win another. Which would involve hiring nobody coaches, never drafting anybody that's any good and refusing to pay any top players, etc. But I can't see any owner doing that, the revenue from the team would plummet, and you have to have lots of money to buy a team, no owner would "cut their own throat".

But are we really "the most loyal fans"? What about Jets fans? Have been to only 1 SB, and that was over 50 years ago. But they still have fans.
What about Eagles fans? 60 years between championships, but they also have/had fans. Lions haven't even won a single playoff game since before Dallas won their last SB. But they have fans.

I get it, we got used to championships every 12 years, on the average. Plus, huge numbers of playoff wins as well, lots of "winning" seasons to boot. But compared to some teams we're blessed. And winning SBs is hard, it takes many times not only good players and good coaching, but incredible luck as well.

So no, I don't see myself as gullible, nowhere is it written the Dallas Cowboys are due SB wins periodically just because we the fans think we deserve it. That's just part of being a fan, you take the good with the bad, we can gripe and b**** and moan and groan all we want, not going to make one bit of difference....
