LOL, is #2 a version of “progress stopper”?

I think people are right to question what the Cowboys are doing at WR right now. It would be ridiculous to start the season with Lamb, Tolbert and a bunch of JAGs.

Claiming everything is OK because we have 11 WRs on the roster is hilarious. Because at least 9 of them are total JAGs.

First of all, I didn't say everything was ok at this point, I said it's too early to panic. And, pray tell, how have the Cowboys done with their past choices of free agents? Do the names Hardy, Vanderjagt, Poe, McCoy, et al ring a bell? So you trust Jerry to sign quality free agents? I don't.

It's far too early to write off the receiving corps, if you want to panic, be my guest....

I don't see any reason to panic, but I also don't see any problem with adding a Fuller, Hilton or Beasley before other teams have a need and do it. There are plenty of balls to go round in the preseason, so there's nothing prohibiting the players we've got from beating out the veteran who is brought in. I'm always a big believer in contingency plans and right now, we don't have a good one for if these young receivers aren't up to the task.

That's fine, but Beasley was never more than a decent slot receiver, I don't see he'd add that much to the roster, though I do like him. And all of the free agent receivers aren't going to be signed in the next week, I think we have time to see how the young guys do before I'd spend precious cap dollars on some other team's castoff, if they were really good, they'd already have gotten signed by somebody else, or are biding their time to see if some team really gets in a bind and has to sign them on an emergency basis, giving the receiver lots of bargaining power.

But I get your drift...

Call Beasley actually had the best hands in the entire league for passes percentages caught. His issue was after catching the ball

Adding a FA WR now costs you very little. Why not give yourself some insurance here? Like you can probably get a Fuller on the cheap at this point, likely some one year deal for a couple of million. If the rookies and young guys ball out in camp, you can likely cut Fuller and not have any real long term cap issues.

It's not panic. It's just common sense. Expecting TJ Vasher or Brown or Turpin to suddenly develop into high level NFL WRs in order to take some of the focus off Lamb is real pie in the sky thinking. Tolbert is the only guy that really has a chance and he's a rookie that likely will need time to find himself.

There is zero downside in adding a veteran WR in the next week. But Jerry and Stephen often overvalue what they have simply because those two were the ones picking these guys.

I appreciate your view, as always. But sorry, too early for me....

Regardless, as I said he's mainly a slot receiver, this team isn't going to live or die based on slot receiver, there are bigger needs on this team, like OG and S, I'd spend my money there....

There is “no urgency”, really forever, when you 1) print money and 2) you aren’t accountable for poor performance as GM, with the cost being loss of your job

I am starting to think Jerry is trying to sabotage Big Mike to either bring in his buddy from NO or promote Kellen Moore.
He will be 80 in October. Not sure how much he has left to be wasting years

Beasley had 82 catches last year for Buffalo. That was more than any player on our roster, I believe. We have no idea if Turpin, Tolbert, Vasher, Houston, etc., can even regularly beat coverage in this league (and playing against backups in preseason games is only going to tell us so much). I'd go ahead and make a move. Yes, you'd have to eat some bonus if you ended up cutting the player, but to me, insurance is more important than bonus.

There are definitely reasons why these players are still available, whether it's age or injury history, but that doesn't mean they can't help the team. It just means there are risks involved, and because of that, they probably would not cost a lot with the team able to at least build incentives into the contract to keep the cost down in case of injury, etc.

Jerry thinks he's got another Romo on hand where he can lift up the mediocre players to look good.

When we start the season looking silly at WR, suddenly Gallup's worth in peoples minds is gonna sky rocket waiting for his return....eventually crushing everyones spirit when he does return...reminding everyone that he is closer to a #3 than a #2.

Or if they can't.

You folks can quit trying to change my mind, ain't happening at this point.

Good discussion, though...

not sure why i am getting that 2018 vibe here. Hopefully we are more equipped to handle it thiis time

i don't quite see it yet, personally. 2018 they actually believed Cole Beasley was a difference maker lol. Lamb is going to be fine (imo) tolbert is looking great, we still have Schulz, several intriguing young guys and Gallup will return.
