Forgetting manipulating cap and varying per year dollars, and just looking at contract average, I think Zeke's 15 mil average will be higher than
Jones (12m),
Henry (12.5m), and
Cook (13m)

McCaffery averages 16
Kamara average 15

I agree. McCaffery is the highest paid on avg. If you break it down year to year cost, this will be the last season where Zeke pay is rated the highest, in 2023 he will be the 6th highest, in 2024 he will be the 7th highest. I get that how a contract is structured will determine the year to year payout.

Yes, really. The Zeke contract was terrible and showed a poor understanding of the market. The Cooper trade was horrendous and you only had to wait a month or so to see just how badly they misunderstood the WR market.
blah blah blah.go buy your own team then show us how its done,..rediculuos keyboard GM fans.. 10bil gets you a BID maybe lose but go try

:hammer:

Exactly. No way JJ is letting the player walk after using a rare #4 overall pick on him. The money was always going to follow the pick. One bad decision led to a second. The combined result is a horrible misallocation of resources to the position.
Ungrateful fans . . . The Cowboys had the Ultimate Weapon with their Offensive Line . . . They had an MVP candidate in Room . . . Dez was a Beast . . . Written was Balling . . . No one could stop Beasley

Who did you want them to draft?

It was Proven in 2014 This line with a talented RB would dominate . . . in 2015 an aging McFadden still produced. . . Elliott was almost a no brainer.

Of course Ramsey would have been a beast on this team . . . Bit He would not have brought us a championship.

Only thing that stopped the Cowboys from a championship was starting a rookie QB.

Elliott wasn't the wrong decision . . . Keeping Romo on the bench was the wrong decision

Elliott got paid. . . . who cares . . . good for Him

Who did you want them to draft?

Either:

Trade up
Trade down
Draft a different player

Anything but use that #4 overall pick on a running back- perhaps the most short lived and replaceable position in football.

Ramsey, who they could have drafted, was later traded for 2 first round picks, and a 4th round pick. That tells you all you need to know about the relative value/importance of the RB position vs. the CB position. Wish those picks were ours.

I still think Elliot is a good player.

Yes. Could have had both Ramsey AND Henry in that draft
If someone didn't want Ramsey, well, then monster Dlineman DeForest Buckner AND Derek Henry

Having said all that, Zeke has given us some very strong years. It's not like they drafted KiJana Carter high in the 1st and got no production.

Stephen Jones always tries to play hardball with our talent and they either walk or they force him to pay a record high contract. How many years of this do we need to see before they realize he doesn't need to be the one dealing with the players?

In other words, Zeke is the highest-paid RB since 2019. LOL, maybe this is why Jerry is putting Zeke and focal point in the same sentence.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/salaries/breakdown/running-back

A lot of RB's were taking shorter deals. RB's have a shorter shelf life and their agents know it. So a shorter contract makes it possible to sign 2 big deals while the RB is still in his prime.

With that said it really hasn't worked out so much for RB's like Christian McCaffrey who has been hurt since he got his deal. Contract was 4 years to Zeke's 6 years.

Henry would have been great but the question I have is how much should a top RB get? In Henry case he avg 12.5 mill a year?

I'm sure I would be terrible at it. Doesn't mean I can't observe the return they got for Cooper various the other WR trades that happened this off-season.

To put the issues in context..........let's say Stephen called Zeke's bluff and made him play out his rookie deal.
  • 2016......signed his rookie deal
  • 2017......rookie deal
  • 2018......rookie deal
  • 2019......Zeke gets a new deal
  • 2020......would have been a 5th-year option
  • 2021......he could have tagged him ( $8.6M )

A very common misconception. Zeke still played on his rookie deal in 2019. He still played out his 5th year option. Zeke's 6 year deal didn't start until 2021, and runs through 2026.

Same for Deebo and same for DK Metcalf. Extensions are not new deals. They are extensions to current deals. Even though Deebo and DK don't have 5th year options, their extensions don't start until next year. They're still playing the 4th year of their rookie deal. The only extra they get is signing bonus up front, and guaranteed money in the future.

Hate the contract, not the player.

The Zeke hate around here is unwarranted. Dude is a really good football player that knows how to get the extra yard out of a blown up play just like Marion barber use to do. One of the best in the league at it if not the best.

People do a lot of complaining about Zeke's contract. Going into his 7th year, this is the only year in all that time he is being overpaid and people are having a fit. He'll be overpaid next year too, and this is whether or not he's still on the team. He's an 11M dead cap.

I just think people don't look at the contracts. Being overpaid 1 year out of 7 is not what I would call a bad contract. It's just time to pay.

Ramsey at 4
Henry in second round
simmons in 3rd
but its easy to play arm chair QB it was stupid to draft a rb at 4.perhaps the dumbest thing theyve done in the draft to date. With the line we had anyone could put up those numbers
