Barry Sanders. If he had played for Dallas back in his prime............... holy geebus.

Barry averaged over 1600 yards per season for 9 seasons. If he had played 14 seasons like Emmitt he would have beaten Emmitt by over 5000 yards.
not so sure. detroit had a decent OL people dismiss it as if they were garbage... don't get me wrong., despite everyone saying Dallas line being out of this world. given the only player out of the dallas group to make it to HOF was Larry allen. Emmitt was responsible for their success more so than the otherway around. I mean Tuenei, Stepnoski a 260 lb center. and Newton ain't that much to write home about. Emmitt made them, not the other way around.

with that said, Barry was like a home run hitter in baseball, but he struck out a lot. Emmitt was more like derek jeter, consistent. Jeter didn't make the highlights on ESPN much, they mostly show the home runs.

20 posts in and nobody's said Bob Hayes?

You know, the guy the NFL had to create new defenses for like the Umbrella Zone and Bump and Run coverage.

I hear this expression from time to time here. But what does it mean? Who are examples of these athletic freaks we have had? I can think of three that might qualify: Herschel Walker, Deion and T.O. Any others we have been been blessed with to wear the star?

Larry Allen and Darren Woodson are two obvious ones you haven’t mentioned along with Bob Hayes.

Current roster would be Tyron Smith, Micah Parsons and Sam Williams.

a player a level above the better players. Once in a lifetime types
Madden use to define them as players that could single-handedly change the outcome of a game, a player the opposition had to game plan for

Bo, Deion
Butkus, LT (Taylor), Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Megatron

for Cowboys Deion, Allen

In addition to the ones you mentioned:
  • Bob Hayes- the HOF WR won an Olympic Gold medal in 1964 in the 100 meter sprint and had world class speed.
  • Cornell Green- All pro S and CB in the 60s and 70s never played college FB- he was a college basketball player at Utah State and had incredible leaping ability. Great athlete.
  • Tyron Smith- a true athletic freak who is 6’5” and 300 lbs is quick, agile and strong. Or was before his injury.
  • Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson- LB in the 70s who had such good speed he was occasionally used on kickoff returns. Had a TD on a kickoff, had a pick 6 to seal the NFC championship game in 1978.

I consider an athelic freak of nature someone that can do things that someone their size should never be able to do.

So just being able to run fast or lift a lot of weight would not cut it.

Calvin Johnson would be one too
6'5"
4.35 forty
42.4 vertical
39 reps at 225

Todd Lowber. Crypt Keeper Garret said that if you could teach him to play WR with all his talent/ability then something is wrong with you. I trust the Crypt Keeper.

Chuck Howley, Rayfield Wright, Hollywood Henderson and DeMarcus Ware should also be on this list.

I cannot believe no one has my guy.

Why a freak?
He never missed a single game due to injury in his 15 year career
He had the largest wingspan of any player in NFL history
H blocked more pases than anyone in NFL history
He altered the arc of opposing QB's single handedly
He was the first player from a Black college to go #1 in the NFL draft

When I hear that term "freak," all the mentioned above come to mind. Bo, Deon, and 20 more. For me it was LT. Lawrence Taylor.
True blue cowboys fan, but no other player made me press replay on the vhs more. No body !! Bullet hayes did a few times, Mj a few times, earl Campbell a few times, Erik Dickerson too. But LT was head and shoulders for me. Many many replays asking myself " ***?? How the hell??""

Micah Parsons 4.3 forty at 250 pounds.

Bo Jackson 4.2 at 225.

Parsons beat Tyreek Hill in the NFL's fastest man competition...
