Yes, both Barr and Fowler in part time roles could really be a huge boost to their productively on a per snap basis.
- It should help them to stay healthy and for Fowler it will limit his snaps vs the run which has been his weakness as an NFL player.

There was a backup DLineman on the Cowboys roster from 1990 thru 1993 named Jimmie Jones.
- He was terrific as a backup in the DL rotation.
- He would come into the game with great energy and make some highlight reel type plays.
- As a rookie, I see Sam Williams with that type of impact.
High energy rotational highlight player is the same thing I said about David Irving. if you let him play the whole game he's just average. But, if you let him play the last 6 minutes of the second half and fourth quarter, he'd make his mark.

That would be smart.
I have confidence in these decisions with Quinn in charge.
Yes, I trust Quinn.

I've often had the thought "what if Marinelli had been the D-Coordinator in Micah Parsons rookie season?"
- Parson probably wouldn't have rushed the passer.
- Quinn also schemed to allow Parsons to play a rover position even when he was not pass rushing.
- That allowed him to make big plays instead of being restricted to rigidly defined run gaps.
- Marinelli would have just had him playing standard LB responsibilities...no specific scheming based on Parsons talents.

Yes, he was OK, not great after he departed the Cowboys.

Nate was trying to make a point of couple of years ago about some players think that they're much better than they actually are.

He used Jimmie Jones as the example because apparently Jimmie was always ranting that he should be a starter.

Nate: "He not good as he think he was"
Here is another example that left after his 3 picks to the Raiders after our last Lombardi.
Larry Brown

Started 11 or 11 games played in 2021.

Missed the first 4 games plus 2 others.

Of the 11, he played 100% of the snaps in 8.
- He played over 90% of snaps in 10 or 11.

He looked like a solid NFL LB in the games I reviewed.
- I think his available was due to questions about him staying healthy.
- Not about his ability. He still has plenty of physical ability when on the field...Obviously they'll want to avoid having him in downfield man coverage, but for everything else he is solid.

I think he is going to be happy knowing that Jabril will be the speed guy in the LB corps. Micah is going to be Micah and be the focal point of the offence's attention. They are always going to want to know where Micah is, and what he is doing.

This gives Barr much more of a clean and open slate to rejuvenate his football career. He doesn't have to be the man anymore, but he can find plays where he can be successful in rotation.

The other bonus is I think he looks at LVE as the weak link and he will get more of his snaps in run situations than LVE who is not strong at the point of attack.

I wonder if he could be good in an "Elephant" type of role? Hybrid end/LBer?

If there was a list of players that over-achieved their talent level, Larry Brown would be at the top.

The plan going into 1995 was for Brown to be the 3rd CB (in the era when 3 WR sets were only used a small percentage of snaps).
- Then somehow he ended up as the Super Bowl MVP.
- Yes, Neil O'donnell throwing ducks was part of that, but just the fact that Larry Brown was starting in the Super Bowl with the opportunity to take advantage was amazing.

He is very big for an off-ball LB at about 6-5, 260.

He stacks-and-sheds blocks about as well as any LB.
- La'el lined up as FB hit him from a running start and he didn't budge.
- La'el ended up holding him; although, it didn't get called.

He also only took 1 step back when Zack Martin hit him from a running start.

Cowboys TE Blake Jarwin trying to block him was comical.
- He just ran through Jarwin like those high school players running through the paper wall.

On at least 2 snaps he lined up in man-under on Cooper.

He does not have great speed to the sideline, but anticipation gives him a head start and he gets to the ball carrier on most of those plays.

Obviously they'll want to avoid having him in downfield man coverage, but for everything else he is solid.

For 2M plus 1M in incentives, this seems like a slam dunk signing.
Amazing the comment about his speed...it was his biggest strength in his early years.

Father time is undefeated.

His speed is still OK, especially for a run downs LB.

He was a freak coming out of college: 6-5, 255, 4.41 forty (pro-day), 6.82 3-cone

He might be running a little better this year assumed he is current 100% healthy.
- He missed the first 4 games last season due to a knee issue.
- He started and played 90% of snaps in the Vikings final game last season.
- i.e. He was not injured at the end of the season.

Barr is here for Qs BIG packages, doesnt matter what his 40 time is anymore, he isnt here to be an edge rusher, not brought in to replace Gregory, he is here to be an edge presence vs the run.

You’re probably right but I’m not going to rule out the occasional pass rush until Quinn gets his hands on him and can see what he can do. I could see Quinn rushing him out of his “Hippo” package, which is a 34 “look” package.

I like the thought of specialty packages for Barr to excel in. If he can make an impact this year with the Cowboys he has a chance to roll one more contract, and getting himself to his mid-30s which is just about the shelf life of a LB.

I believe he will really enjoy the attention that Micah will take and the foot speed that Jabril has. The lineup of Barr, Cox and Parsons is the ideal scheme against the run with LVE spelling Barr and Cox off in rotation. A four LB unit is probably the best mix for us on starting lineups.

There was a very sound reason why Barr made this decision so easy.

Oh, Im not saying that Barr would not be available for that role, he isnt pushing 40, just saying that Q has a base set in mind for him already.
