Kosovo vs. Serbia -- 2022 Edition

https://www.rferl.org/a/kosovo-serbia-border-crossing-blocked-tensions/31967812.html

The dispute over vehicles erupted in September 2021 after Kosovar authorities ordered all drivers entering Kosovo from Serbia to use temporary, 60-day, printed license plates in response to measures in Serbia against drivers from Kosovo that have been in place since 2008, when the country declared independence from Belgrade.

At that time, Serbs from northern Kosovo blocked the Jarinje and Brnjak crossings with vehicles and makeshift barricades, while Kosovo's government sent in police units and Serbian military jets and helicopters buzzed the border in a show of force.

Serbia does not recognize Kosovo’s independence nor its right to impose rules and regulations such as registering cars and trucks.

Most EU countries recognize Kosovo, though Russia and China, allies of Serbia, do not.

The EU has tried to broker a dialogue between the two Balkans neighbors for over a decade, but so far the efforts have failed to achieve a normalization of ties.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti has said Kosovo will formally apply to become a member of the European Union by the end of 2022 despite concerns over tensions with Serbia, also an EU aspirant

Toyota’s bZ4X is the company’s first stab into the electric vehicle zeitgeist. Initially, it appeared to be another winner from the Japanese manufacturer. But in June 2022, Toyota announced that wheels could potentially fall off of the bZ4X. “The hub bolt may loosen due to repeated sharp turns and sudden braking. Therefore, if you continue to drive in that state, abnormal noise will be generated, and in the worst case, the tires may fall off.” -Toyota

States along the Colorado River have officially missed a federally imposed deadline to develop a new water-sharing agreement, and the federal government on Tuesday announced new water allocation reductions, including nearly 25 percent in cuts to Arizona.

The Colorado River basin serves seven states — an Upper Basin of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming, and a lower one of Arizona, California and Nevada — and its waters are allocated based on the terms of a century-old agreement from when there was substantially more water in the river.

Meanwhile, the region is facing a 20-years-and-counting drought, the worst in centuries.

Odd to me how no one in those states seems to be alarmed that they’re getting closer and closer to running out of water. Some obviously in much worse situations.

More PPP Fraud...

Don V. Cisternino, 46, of Chuluota, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Orlando federal court to wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and illegal monetary transaction, according to court documents. His hearing is scheduled for Jan. 5 where could face up to 32 years in federal prison. As part of a deal with prosecutors, Cisternino has already agreed to forfeit the money from the fraud, as well as any assets connected to the crimes.

According to the plea agreement, Cisternino fraudulently secured more than $7.2 million in emergency funds through a Paycheck Protection Program loan in May 2020. Cisternino’s PPP loan application falsely claimed that his business, MagnifiCo, had 441 employees and monthly payroll expenses in 2019 of more than $2.8 million. The company actually had no employees other than Cisternino. Along with his loan application, Cisternino submitted false W-2s, many of which listed the names and Social Security numbers of real people who had not authorized him to use their identities. After receiving the money, Cisternino spent it on a Lincoln Navigator, a Maserati, a Mercedes-Benz and a 12,579 square-foot (1,168 square-meter) home in Seminole County, Florida.

Dean Caswell, Austin veteran and WWII Marine flying ace, has died

https://www.statesman.com/story/new...flying-ace-dean-caswell-has-died/69512602007/

Dean Caswell, one of the last Marine fighter pilot aces of World War II, died at his Austin home Wednesday. He was 100.

Caswell enlisted in the Marine Corps in September 1942 and served in combat three times in three decades: in the Pacific theater of World War II in the 1940s, the Korean War in the early ❜50s and the Vietnam War in the ❜60s. Caswell was born in California and moved to Edinburg in 1922 so his parents could work as entomologists in the Rio Grande Valley. He made butter and ice cream at a creamery for $35 a week before he applied for flight training with the Navy in 1941.

He hitchhiked to Los Angeles just two weeks before Japanese carrier pilots attacked American forces at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Shots fired Shots fired! Yeah.. he's the one that fired them. There was no excuse for that even if the teen was an idiot for trying to leave when a cop told him to get out of the car.
Cops are not supposed to open someone's door. Unless that person has been identified as someone who has a warrant out for their arrest. So if a cop opens my door like that, I'm going to think he's not a real cop.

The nation's largest rail union on Monday voted down a tentative contract brokered by the White House, raising the possibility of a nationwide strike next month that could cripple the U.S. economy.

The SMART Transportation Division, or SMART-TD, which represents about 28,000 conductors, rejected the contract in a vote that garnered record turnout, the union said Monday. The contract was nixed by a slim margin, as just 50.8% of workers voted against it.
