Even if Prescott gets a ring. I don’t believe he should go down as one of the greatest of all time. Even if the numbers say so. I’m not sure Eli meaning ever gets in

Eli is 100% getting in - he made two of the best passes ever thrown in NFL history. One being a backyard style throw, the other being one of the most pinpoint accurate dimes. Both on the biggest stage, one against the undefeated Patriots.

my take on romo , is that he will get in HOF eventually for playing days and now as top announcer.
plus dont feel bad about a guy that makes 20 mil a year lol.
Romo has zero chance to get into the HOF as a player

Why do this to yourselves?

Really, really wanting it to be so still doesn't make it so. Just grasp the ball and go down and we're in business. Can't blame Dez for trying to score but the rule was what it was. At least it can never happen like that again. Beasley was there in the flat for what it's worth.
Watch the play in real time. The only way to get the ball to Beasley would have been if Romo was looking his way throughout the play and he would have even had to loop the ball his way as there were several bodies in the way. It would have been the wrong throw. Romo executed the play and unfortunately Dez didn't do the basics of securing the catch. Big fan of Dez but for anyone to try and blame Romo and not Dez if they want to attribute fault to a player shows somebody doesn't understand the game and probably has a shrine of Dak Prescott in their mum's basement. You should concentrate on Dak Prescott's last play against the 49ers in the play offs...but hey obviously that wasn't his fault yet you are more than happy to insinuate blame towards Romo for the aforementioned play. Hilarious and pathetic.

Ya you can hate the player and even though his defense helped him he played awfully well n those playoff especially 2011 he’ll get in easily

agree if Dez didnt try to score it would be simple catch. But the problem I had with the interpretation of rule in the replay opinion was he didnt make a foot ball move , but he did. He shifted the ball from right to left and extended left arm to score . In that case it should be good as initially ruled, the ball hits the ground before EZ as ground cant cause fumble. But the crooked replay decision , it was not a catch was so bad it still doesn’t sit well with lot of Fans .

As I posted in that video, once the going to the ground tag gets put on you, those football moves are irrelevant except a properly executed lunge. That is the only thing found in the rulebook that says going to the ground can be lifted. Otherwise, you have to maintain control of the ball through contacting the ground. As soon as Dez let it come out of his grasp, that's when he was dead because the official on the field was shielded from seeing the ball touch the ground but the reverse angle showed it. The official on the field called it as good as he saw it but it wasn't the whole picture, unfortunately.

If you see what I wrote as blame of Romo then you're either Mrs. Romo or a close relative. It was an option he could have tried. Nothing more, nothing less. His pass to Dez was perfect.

there isn’t a required amount of feet for beginning a fall to the ground. What happens when guys leap up, catch it, and then fall on their side? Do you feel they haven’t hit the ground yet because it makes no sense that they didn’t have 2 feet down first?

Dez goes up in a trajectory that makes him lean toward the end zone before he even has both feet on the ground. When the first foot goes down, he’s clearly not fully upright and further leaning toward the end zone. He’s no longer a runner well before any 2 feet rule is in play.

catch-dez-bryant.gif

Could he have simply stopped after the second step and stood up normally? No, he had lost his balance and was stumbling to maintain upright posture long before that in his attempt to reach the end zone. By catch rule, He was no longer a runner at the point the first foot went down
Looking at the gif clip you posted, uhhhhhh, Dez caught the ball AND TOOK 3 STEPS BEFORE LUNGING FORWARD, thus solidifying he did actually make a catch!!! Plus, since he was touched and tripped AS HE MADE THE CATCH AND BEFORE HE STARTED LUNGING FORWARD, Dez proved he had possession, thus didn't have to maintain possession as the ball hit the ground since he already had proven he had possession prior to lunging forward. But since he was touched/tripped when he proved possession of the catch and as he lunged forward, the ground can not cause a fumble. It should have been ruled a catch and called down at the 6 inch line mark just short of the goal line.

It's equally as confounding you continue to engage. By now you have to realize those who believe it was a catch aren't changing their minds. Lol

Oh I know they aren't, but when I know that they don't know what they're talking about and spreading falsehoods to remain a victim, I'm going to tell the truth that they aren't and just really, really wanted something they did not get.

He did play well in the playoffs in both runs. 2007 wasn't as statistically impressive but between his 2 Superbowl runs he threw for 15 TDs and 2 INTs. That's pretty good. Over the course of a season that pans out to 30 TDs and 4 INTs, which back in 2007 would have put him on the same level as his brother who had 31 TDs and 6 INTs.

I don't like him but he had a weird knack for being able to show up when he shouldn't have.

The ball never touched the ground either.

It did though. This was the whole basis for the overturn. He keeps the ball off the ground and everything else happens the same, it is a catch.

Nice try but Dean Blandino actually used this video to show why the catch against the Giants was a catch and the one against Green Bay wasn't. It was because of the much more demonstrative lunge versus the Giants, which again as I stated from the top is the only thing per the rules that gets you out of a going to the ground tag. Dez just didn't execute this way against Green Bay. He tried but slipped on his 3rd step and couldn't push off. He didn't "gather himself" per the rulebook. You're making Blandino's case for him and that's why Green Bay wasn't a catch.

But there was no reasonable basis for saying he went down as part of making the catch. He caught the ball in the air above his head, brought it down & shifted the ball and clearly turned his attention to not just going down in the tangle with the defender but to plant his leg & lunge toward the goal. All of which negate any basis for the requirement to maintain control. The catch, control & football move were all in place.

A few days after the game, I was discussing with some guys who thought the ruling was correct. So, I asked them if everything had happened the same except as Dez extended the ball the defender swiped the ball loose would they not have ruled it a catch & fumble? After considering, they all agreed it would have been ruled a catch & fumble.

It was a horrible injustice. Simple as that. The whole period where the league couldn't define & consistently what constituted a catch was a embarrassment.

It's not an injustice, just fans who didn't know the mechanics of the rule. A catch is control, 2 feet, and a football move, unless you were going to the ground and then THOSE rules applied just like in several other circumstances. Surviving the ground with the ball is the substitute for a football move unless you can properly lunge. As soon as you get that tag on you, waving to your mama, switching the ball, etc. doesn't matter. You have to survive the ground. Here's the video explanation again for those that just breezed on past it to keep to their narratives.

He never missed a game. I find that more impressive. But for some reason I just don’t think he’s NFL Hall of Fame worthy. But you’re probably right

He is falling to the ground before the 2 feet are down. If that wasn’t the case, all falling to the ground rulings wouldn’t matter unless the guy was flipped over, it’s always been a rule where you needed to maintain through the ground even with 2 feet touching while you fell
False. A football move before hitting the ground made it a catch.

Look at your previous post about the defender hitting Dez to make him go to the ground. Then look at your posts before that stating it's irrelevant.

We had long threads about this clearly explaining the rule and the precedents the NFL had made (and their examples they provided as guidance) prior to that play. Everything changed when they botched it and their explanations were pure gaslighting.

Of course it was a catch ...... But it still does not change the fact that we had a bad secondary and was giving Aaron Rogers almost five minutes to score.

That play may have changed momentum but did not cost us the game.

I agree. We couldn't stop a gimpy Aaron Rodgers when we needed to.
Even if it was ruled a catch, there was plenty of time for Rodgers to lead a comeback.
IMO, it would have just delayed the inevitable.

The post about the defender hitting him was after he caught it and was running to the endzone of his own accord. The GB play he was stumbling right out of the gate

Yes. Those long threads were me explaining the rules and painting the "it was a catch" crowds into corners to where they couldn't answer my questions.

If the NFL botched it and were gaslighting people about it, point to a reputable article that explains by the rules that the NFL was wrong in its explanation of its own rules. Neither you or anyone can because it doesn't exist. Seemingly, only on the Cowboys message boards have they figured out what no serious sports journalist has ever been able to explain or expose the NFL. Would they have a biased angle to push? Hmmm. There's gaslighting alright.
