seems McCarthy did BPA and did away with some of the favoritism showed by the coaches

Tyler Smith was the best option at that pick. There was no other polished olineman available. Tyler was just as highly rated as others. This is a non story by bb.

I don't believe this. Broadus has been trying to drum up a story line about dissension between Philbin and the scouts for a long time now. This is his latest effort. Before this, he was going on about McGovern being a guy the scouts really liked but that Philbin has no use for. Not sure why he's working this angle so hard. Maybe he has friends in the scouting department with a hate on for Philbin.
I don't side with either side, but I've seen Philbin's coaching flaws the past 2 seasons and have asked for his removal based on the results of this Oline.

I think Twitter has gotten into Bryan's head...he's trying to be the first to break a story and get views when theirs nothing there. Journalism is near dead

I hate these “sources”. Who are we to believe. However, in this case I think you need to watch the video (or I need to rewatch since it’s been a bit). I think these guys were saying for the coaches to shut up and coach and that Philbin may be making excuses for his job.

As was Parsons contrary to belief. Parsons was the best option and everyone thinks Jerry, including himself, was a draft genius. Jerry actually wanted Farley!!

And this is exactly the problem with the Dallas FO.

When the two guys at the top are not qualified to evaluate talent, everybody and the janitor weighs in.

Should be between the head of personnel, the HC, and the GM.

looks like in this instance they went with the Scouts as it should be,they are the guys who have studied these players the longest.

Wait did they just say we have position coaches deciding who's starting and who's playing? That's crazy.

Considering Philbin has done nothing but make the OL worse since he got here, good.

To be fair though, I'm shaky on the Smith pick too. Not that he isn't a good prospect, but because I felt Linderbaum would be the immediate impact player.
Definitely. Smith could be LA. But lindy was the pick.

So what's the story?

The O-line coaches had an opinion. The Head Coach and personnel executives listened. They decided to choose someone else. There's nothing unique or controversial about that. I'll bet it happens all the time.

This doesn't signal a rift between the HC and his assistants. I'll bet some assistant coaches get the player they lobby for occasionally. They can't win all the time.

If Philbin wants more say in choosing players then he should do everything possible to help the Cowboys win a championship. That will increase his opportunity to become a HC once again. Then he might have more input into which players he would like to have.

I do remember when Mike McCarthy got hired here as HC, Aaron Rodgers saying he was surprised he didn’t get hired as a GM.
