I'm sure he'll wind up in our division somehow. Seems like a good player but will command more money and draft compensation then we would be willing to give up I imagine.

This is easy to answer: NO

There is no way the Cowboys are going to trade for arguably the best statistical middle LB in the NFL today, knowing full well Roquan Smith is up to receive most likely the highest LB paid contract in the league.

Compare LVE's & Roquan's stats...

20220810-041602.jpg

LVE is still a very good middle LB who has recovered from neck injury, stepped it up and played very well towards the later half of last season even though he was only used part-time, and LVE is bigger, taller, heavier and fast enough (4.65 40 yd dash) to play middle LB for the Cowboys for years to come. Plus, it would be way cheaper to keep LVE if he stays healthy and does well in 2022.
games played here is a huge factor in the discrepancy LVE missed a lot of time due to injuries where Roquan has been fairly consistent

I really wanted to draft him.

Smith and Parsons would be amazing.

Smith probably wants $20M+ and Parsons will eventually get $30M. I don't see how that is doable.

That comes directly from his agent. It has no grounds in reality.

Players' agents have come to realize that linking the Cowboys gets the player max exposure and even a kick in the pants to the team he is actually on. Media today eats up all this crap. Progress, I guess.

Nope. If they had wanted to allocate big cap dollars to an off ball LB they could have ponied up for Bobby Wagner and saved themselves the trade compensation.

This should surprise no one........BTW he's in the final year of his rookie deal @ $9.7M. But either way, nearly zero chance of this happening.

5. Dallas Cowboys
Jerry Jones is never afraid to make a big splash, so we can never count the Cowboys out when a player of Smith's caliber goes on the block. Leighton Vander Esch re-signed with Dallas this offseason on a one-year, $2 million deal, so they aren't committed to the former first-round pick long-term despite him currently sitting atop the depth chart at the middle linebacker spot. Vander Esch has also had durability problems throughout his career, so this is very much an area the Cowboys could look to improve upon as they head into a 2022 campaign where expectations are sky high.

He wouldn’t be anywhere near my radar at the moment. We have Parsons, Cox, Clarke for the long term and then Bar plus LVE as stop gaps. I’m more than happy with that as our approach. A stud LB doesn’t make sense IMO.

I would like the trade. I think we would end up regretting trading a first or second and giving a 100m contract. There are some RBs they could trade for too but I don’t get the sense that’s a position of focus. I’d wait until the 53 man roster cut down then add depth. The defense should be good this year this is not a move they need to make.

It’s getting comical….any time XXX player wants a trade or XXX fa is on the market and wants to increase their perceived value the cowboys are “linked” either through a media source or a random report.

Then 99 times out of 100 we do not trade for or sign said player.

BOTTOM LINE - it’s 100% click bait

Cracks me up that a lot of people still fall for it and have hope we’re going to sign or trade for someone

Wouldn't that be 99% click bait? ;) :D

Yeah but Smith's new deal would start next year. Parsons would start in 2026. Three years is a long time in the cap world.
