If he really can't start in the slot then we need to consider signing Beasley or something. Are we really planning on trotting out Lamb/Pollard/Dennis in the slot with Lamb moving all around the field? Idk.

I didn’t see much explosiveness in his game. What kind of receiver is he supposed to be?

Fluid route guy?
Speed guy?
Jump ball guy?
YAC guy?
i think he ran good routes and was just enough at almost everything except separating, they were glued to him it seemed like.

The first time I saw him when he made a short catch, I was surprised how small he looked. Maybe the LB was just big, but I was expecting a more impressive build.

First game deer in the headlights syndrome. It's gonna take more experience to fairly evaluate. Gallup didn't look so great right out of the gate either, but he eventually got it together.

You cannot evaluate these receivers with Cooper Rush as QB ...... He was horrible tonight...... Throwing the ball right into the upraised hands on the dline even when he had no pressure.

No pressure? When was that exactly? The Oline was sooo bad that it was impossible to analyze any skill position including the QB. But we all know Cooper rush sucks anyway.

Regardless of what we hope Tolbert to be. He is a 3rd round pick at WR from a smaller school.

he needs time to acclimate to the pros.

Which is why it’s foolish for the FO or anyone else to expect him to be ready to start game 1. He needs time.

Only the best of the best receivers come into the league playing well from the jump. A lot of receivers who ultimately end up being good, need more time.

Yep. This is why relying on him to take Cooper or Gallups spot week 1 was dumb.

agreed man. I do think Tolbert will be a solid receiver.

I don’t think he will be dominant in any one aspect but I expect him to be a solid all around type guy who is good at everything while
Not great at any one thing.

He just needs time though. This ain’t south Alabama anymore lol.

Thoughts on Tolbert:
  • Forget last night’s PS game. That was a complete joke.
  • Tolbert obviously has talent and upside.
  • Fluid, smooth and has good hands and athleticism.
  • As a rookie, has a ton to learn about adjusting to NFL level competition. (Playing in real games as opposed to practices in TC)
  • Will require some patience before we see what he really is.
Quick reminder- Michael Gallup was also a third round pick and was not an immediate plug and play. Took him several months to adjust to the NFL. That’s kind of what I think we will see from Tolbert.
