Chicago gives us their number 3 for next year and pays half his contract for this year to get rid of him. Then we cut him at the end of the year.

Smith is a great player, saying that he may not like what other teams offer a proto type MLB ....its just not what most teams build a defense around these days.

How exactly is Roquan Smith “linked to the Cowboys”?

I did not watch the video but I doubt neither Shannon Sharpe nor Skip Bayless asked that question. Essential details like those are often ignored by the more melodramatic sports talking heads.

But, but, but, the Rams?
Build a team the same way of the Rams!
Now is no thanks.

Make up your minds, people.

Yeah. I didn’t watch it either. I see that show and it’s two hosts for what they are and I’m not about to give them the attention they set desperately crave.

But as I expected, there is apparently ZERO legitimate connection between Smith and the Cowboys.

Every player in the NFL that has a gripe with their team always throws America's team into the mix, WHY?????????? JJ ain't making no trades that's going to help this team, he's rather sit on his money and watch this team sink further into the abyss............

The Cowboys have LVE and Barr on cheap deals. They also have two LSU linebackers waiting in the wings. Pass. More talking heads have nothing to talk about so let’s link everyone to the Cowboys.
This is 100% correct.

Also, this is typically how I feel about spending big on an off ball LB.

And, what’s more, I don’t think the team will even consider doing something like this.

However, Smith is a really good player and my instinct is to want to try to get him. He would be nice with Parsons for a few years.

It just wouldn’t be smart though. Spending big AND having to give prime draft capital at off ball LB would be dumb.

Smith is a good player but the Cowboys need to go after defensive tackles if the want to improve the defense.

Trading for an interior linebacker, then giving him a big contract, isn't how championship teams are built in 2022.
Well, last year's championship team seems to think it is based on their offseason.

To me you can't ever generalize these things. Not all teams are alike and not all ILBs are alike so to say it isn't how teams are built is not valid IMO. But, I think the point being made (whether you agree or not) is that it allows Parsons to move to Edge. So we break even (somewhat relatively speaking) at ILB but gain an All Pro Edge rusher. This is the exact reason I wanted to sign Wagner. It enables us to play Parsons up front more. We had no LBs in the SF game and he wasn't able to do so and IMO it hurt us. Also, all of our LBs are being paid very little for a reason. They are either unproved or proven to not be worth more. So it's not like anyone is being held back by a move like this. If we were to trade for Smith (we won't) there would still be plenty of LB snaps to go around and it would likely result in both Barr and LVE being gone next year unless they excelled so the younger guys would not be blocked anyway, And damn would we help our nickel D with Cox and Smith in coverage and Parsons rushing.

To me it makes us way better and giving up a high pick is worth it. Where I draw the line is at giving him a record deal. He just isn't good enough for a Leonard type deal. If you could get him for under $15M per though I'm in.

I remember quite a few posters here saying not to spend a top 10 pick on an off the ball linebacker (Parsons) before they drafted him.

Glad the FO doesnt listen to fans. (Not saying you said it btw)

Yes and no, adding that caliber to what we have at LB currently would be something rare, this back seven would be like Cobra Kai.

Yeah, I didn’t, but I remember it being said.
I said that Parsons was well worth it IF they were going to send him after the QB… and I said that before they made the pick as well as after. Micah was really good at getting after the QB in college, so I felt like he could do it in the NFL.

But I agree completely… good thing fans aren’t making these decisions.
