Dallas ran a lot of running plays to the left side behind 73. They had success doing it too. I think that shows the faith Kellen Moore and the coaches have in the rookie. With Tyron Smith in and Zach Martin in the lineup, it gives Dallas a less predictable run game when they "need" to convert on short yardage. Being able to run behind the LG or the RG should help Zeke and Pollard.
The one drive was everything behind him till they got in the endzone. He sealed the longest run of the day too.

Yeah the only negative I saw with Smith was that he still showed the tendency to stand up over the course of the play which gives away his leverage. But even doing that he was still have to get movement on his man and several times got the second level and blasted a linebacker. What was more impressive is that even when his defender would get lower they still could not move him backward. He is SO different from Williams in that regard. Williams could be bull rushed into the QB's lap even if he was able to maintain leverage. Just not strong enough. Not a problem with this kid.
Ya he may have gotten away with a couple of uncalled holds but holding probably can be called on every play
I like the kid

Smith is number 73. I think you were watching 75. If so, I totally understand.
smith played better this week. his hand placement was much better i saw him keep his hands in more and not grabbing the backs of d-lineman for holding calls. now he did in my opinion got away with one call in the middle of the first touchdown. also i think he was meaning ball. ball looked awful again. if smith goes down for multiple games i see the rookie smith taking over because there is no way ball will be able to play when prescott is in the game.

Smith is learning a new position, and needs all the reps that he can get to refine his technique and hand placement. The one thing you can say about him is that he is an absolute road grader. He moves people out of the way with relative ease. If the technique catches up, he will be outstanding.

I'm sure OP thought this was a good idea when he started this thread. Smith was pretty good and at times was dominant. Definitely blowing people off the line. He does need work, but he can do so much more at this stage than McGovern ever thought of. I think you live with the learning curve.

Here's a hint. The entire starting OL didn't play yet 73 played the entire game.

He's not a starter.
Ummm...he's a rookie. Whether he's starting or not, they won't let him sit like the other starters. He needs reps and he's looked good thus far. He had some misses but it's to be expected but I'm not sure what games you are watching.

Ball, playing the way he is right now, would get Dak killed.

If Tyler learns the technical aspect of the game and refines it, he will be our most talented Olineman we have. His strength is through the roof.

He hasn’t played guard since HS so I expected a learning curve
But he has the potential to be a really good guard
