Sideline reporter asked if there’s a chance he’d play for the Rams again and if he’s been getting calls. Unprompted about Dallas, he mentioned he was sad to hear about Tyron and he has been getting calls (said both in the same sentence but who knows if he meant specifically called by Dallas).

Finished by saying his wife and kids need to make that decision but did not seem like he was closing the door at all. Announcers even mentioned that after the interview concluded.

Just thought it was interesting he brought us up unprompted.

Just the fact they reached out Whitworth tells me they are pursuing help at OT. There is hope yet to see a vet brought in before the start of the season

Needs to happen soon. If a good vet then he can fit in quickly. He will know the assignments but just has to learn the calls and terminology.

It turns out that Whitworth never got a call from the Cowboys, but rather, got calls from hordes of Cowboys' faithful who prevailed upon him to join the Cowboys. He's involved with an organization to keep him in touch with football, although he's now making it clear that he never got a call from the Dallas Cowboys. It presents a situation for the Cowboys that begs some explaining to occur. Whitworth, however, is calling it a misunderstanding.

Unfortunately, he originally gave the impression that he was contacted by the Cowboys when he actually was not. If that were the case, they would be in big trouble for tampering. That certainly wouldn't present a pretty picture if it were so.

Now, upon being informed of the situation, Whitworth swears he never got a call from the Cowboys but was getting many calls from Cowboys fans begging him to join the team. Apparently, it's merely a poorly handled incident that got out of hand. Here's hoping the league won't see fit to pursue it with any intent of making it an awkward legal affair.

Whitworth would it only be the best option right now but would be an upgrade to oft playing at less than 100% Tyron Smith. But I don’t want to get my hopes up only to see Ball as our starting LT.

He likely is retracting his statement as it would be tampering

If it is up to the wife and kids, then he is not coming to Dallas.

That's sad that ProFootballTalk would phrase it that way. They assumed Whitworth said he had heard from the Cowboys. Whitworth never said that. It was bad reporting.

They should have just clarified that Whitworth wanted to make it clear that he was not talking about being called by the Dallas Cowboys, but from fans of the team. He's not backing away from anything he said. He just didn't say what they thought they heard.

To me, he phrased it by saying they did contact. He likely retracted when it would be tampering.

How would it be tampering? Is he still under contract with the Rams? Do they own his rights? If so then yes, the Cowboys cannot talk to him, and if they want him they would have to ask the Rams first. And the Rams could ask for compensation.

I listened to it and don't agree with your interpretation. It appears the Whitworth, the one who said it, agrees with mine.

I know from doing interviews that those you are interviewing don't always say things the best way or clearest way possible. That's why it is necessary to follow up with clarifying questions. "Are you saying the Dallas Cowboys have contacted you?" would have been a good follow-up question.
