So let me get this straight,
We drafted a top OT in the draft that most thought was really the 2nd best OT in the Draft and ppl here want us to sign some old and washed up OT Free agent, (Really) Wow.
McG had already beaten out Tyler for the LG spot so move Tyler to his Natural Position of LOT and ppl are complaining. Also we have two OT that we are developing Ball and Wojo, Ball has played better w every snap so whats the beef, let them play ball like they were drafted for

McGovern had beat out Smith for the LG spot? Based off what?

:facepalm::muttley:

2nd best OT? LOL. He was the highest penalized player in college. I dont remember anyone saying he was the second best OT.

Ball has been getting killed, and the other guy just came back from injury.

Signing someone is a necessity at this point.

Ball hasn't been getting killed. He literally handled Khalil Mack for two straight days in practice.

He made some mistakes in his first ever pro game and missed a couple of blocks in the run game last week....getting killed is not an accurate description of his play.

You have to understand, those that wallow in misery all the time, this is their time right now. They have never been happier all off-season. They have to seize this moment and attack everyone bc they were so smart that they KNEW Tyron would get hurt. lol

Also, these same people crying about LT were also the same ones crying that we took a LT in the first round. See, in their worlds, they are never wrong.

Now, i agree, Smith is a solution to the LT issue. I think it covers us and McGovern can play LG. I just feel like we are a net loss with this lineup as opposed to last year. With Tyron, i really felt our OL was going to be better than last year. I think if we can keep Smith at LG and somehow get solid play from LT, we can still be better in some areas like running the ball.

I agree. Tyler was drafted as Tyron’s replacement long term. He may not be ready for it this season but its not worth trading for someone besides depth.

See here is the key thing you said, what was i WATCHING.

Yes, I actually watched. I am not basing it on idiot media people who never pay attention to practices and lazily write narratives.

Good post; however, McGovern really hasn't won the LG job.
- McCarthy might say that to the media, but the way they played them in the preseason games says otherwise.

Tyler started the games at LG and McGovern played RG.
- They wouldn't have Zach Martin play LG or Tyron play RT if they did play starters in a preseason game.
- Tyler has not taken any snaps at OT in training camp or preseason games.

I agree that Ball or Waletzko are probably better options than last seasons backup Ty Nsekhe or past swing tackles like Cam Fleming.

They always have the option to move Steele to LT. He started 6 games at LT last season and 8 at RT.

This is a huge loss. Smith could be an option BUT it’s an extremely difficult transition and it could have a terrible effect on a young player if he’s not prepared for it. We’ll see how the team handles this.. should be interesting. Now say they do move Smith to LT and he absolutely gets hammered in the opener? Then what’s the plan? You see a FO smart enough to overcome that?

He wasn't the second best OT but he was the best when we picked with the understanding that he had a lot of work to do on technique. It will be interesting to see how the last pre-season game plays out.

Steele was garbage at LT.

How much of that was due to playing next to Connor Williams instead of Zack Martin is debatable.

He was potentially the long term replacement for Tyron at LT. They had zero intention of him playing LT this year because they knew he was raw and needed a lot of work. McCarthy admitted right at the start of camp that they likely made a mistake having him take as many snaps at LT as they did in OTAs and that they should have been prepping him for LG. Hence why he took all his practices snaps camp at LG.

Ball has been terrible. He absolutely has not been better with every snap. Waletzko is a late round rookie with a shoulder injury.

Our OT situation is not good right now.

Oh stop. He was not all that good in either preseason game. If he's our starting LT, Dak had better get his track shoes on because he's going to be running, a lot.

If the choice is Ball or Tyler Smith, frankly, I'd throw the kid out there and hope he's a quick learner. But make no mistake, it was never the intention of the coaches or FO for Smith to be playing LT this early in his career.

People aren’t saying Tyler Smith cannot play LT.

Peoples concerns are, he is A)hurt, B)taken minimal snaps there and C)his first game time snaps will come opening night at LT.
It’s not preferred but circumstances can be opportunities
