Ok......that's why
So, you start him outside or slot??????
Hopefully at least until Gallup comes back we will move him around constantly to make it harder for defenses to know where he is each play and shut him down. But as the year goes on I think he will be on the outside much more. I think the % of snaps in which we are in 3+ WR sets will drop a little bit from the last two years

Year 1: Cooper #1 and Gallup #2 on the outside mainly with Lamb #3 in the slot

Year 2: Cooper #1 and Gallup #2 on the outside to start (Gallup missed near 1/2 the season with injury) with Lamb #3 initially in the slot then on the outside (Cedrick Wilson took over in the slot)

Year #3: Lamb #1 and Brown #2 on the outside to start with Gallup on the outside when he returns from injury

In 2021, when Gallup when out with injury (Games 2-8) Lamb amassed the following stats: 34 catches on 51 targets for 528 yards and 3 td's. The remainder of the games Lamb had 45 catches on 69 targets for 574 yards and 3 td's.

The biggest question for Lamb this season will be how does he perform being the #1 WR with Dallas having lost both Cooper and Wilson in free agency and Gallup being brought back slowly from an ACL injury. Expect Lamb to be double teamed early and often.

That's why some of us aren't convinced he's a true #1 receiver yet.

We need to see how he does without Cooper taking all the heat off him.

which means Schultz will be a much bigger factor.

He will need to be given the WR depth this season....and if he does produce his price tag only goes up from his current 1-year franchise tag amount of $10.931M (if franchise tagged again next season his cap hit would be $13.117M) as many quality TE's are in the $15M/year range.

In life all you can hope for is the opportunity to prove yourself. Schulz has greatly improved over the course of his career but he has the chance to show himself as an impact player.

Based on that then Lamb is going to have to show himself as an impact player being he is the #1 WR now and to an extent it will apply to Dak as well given his new contract and WR corps.

For some reason some do not think Schultz should have been or should be given a new contract but he has shown himself to be the best TE option Dallas has had since Witten (not as all around given he needs work with blocking) and no TE has had a better season for Dallas since Witten's 2013 season.

Schultz was given a 1 year franchise. Personally I have no issue with it, he is the 8th highest paid TE and I think that is well deserved given the numbers he put up last season. As for his blocking I agree but more important I think he knows that is an area he must improve on. I will say in his defense that all the top TE I don't hear much being said about what great blockers they are, they have made their names by being effective playmakers. Clearly Witten was an all around TE but very few guys are all around TE these days.

Maybe so but Dallas drafted Lamb with the ideal that he would be the #1 WR. His chance is now.
That's true, but some of the top receivers in the NFL are mostly slot guys (Cooper Kupp / Tyreek Hill / Keenan Allen). A receiver doesn't necessarily have to spread wide most of the time to be the top target.

I agree but again year 1 CeeDee was a slot last season Dallas used him in both outside and inside end result, more catches, more yards, higher avg per catch and more TD.

So he's done more damage from the slot than outside......didn't know that

He’s played more in the slot
With cooper and Gallup on the outside much of the time
I think when Gallup gets back you will see him still play some slot
Easier to move him around to create mismatches

cooper kupp is a true #1 and plays the slot a majority of the time. both things can be independent of each other.

I still suspect that had something to do with how much time Gallup missed, but regardless, Cooper is gone and Gallup will miss games so Lamb's slot targets will probably decrease even more. We may see Turpin and Pollard get some of those slot chances
