This is really interesting, a lot of old boys like me are the norm!

I'm old enough to have been here for the glory days of the 1970s but sadly, over here in the UK your sport may have well been played on the moon as there was zero TV, newspapers.......ANY coverage.

I became a Cowboys fan when the NFL first aired on UK TV about 1985ish. I will say though the 70s had a hand in picking my team, not because of the Cowboys but the TV show I watched with my family every week. The opening credits with the helicopter flying over the stadium ingrained on my brain!

Here we are 35+ years later.

The EXACT same reason I'm a Cowboys fan, only point of reference at the time. All these years I have thought it was a stupid reason to pick a favourite team and i'm not the only one!

Became a fan in 1978 when I was a kid. I also loved the TV show Dallas because it showed Texas stadium in the opening credits and soon became a Dallas Mavs fan as well. Somehow I became fascinated with anything regarding Dallas.

I didn't realize how passionate i was about this team until I cried after the loss to SF in the 81 nfc championship. Ironically I grew up in Tampa, FL. My dream was to one day live Dallas. The closest I got was being stationed at Ft Hood, TX in the 90's. I miss those super bowl runs.

Interesting poll....Just goes to show Jerry has killed the fan base...there is no younger fans.
I remember when Jimmy Johnson’s first started winning. The fans came out of the woodwork it was like wow where do you come from. And now they went right back into their rocks. There’s no loyalty you’re absolutely correct

The poll was just posted so way too early to draw any conclusions.
I understand what you’re saying. But I think he has an excellent point. I don’t think fans today have any loyalty. They all became Kansas City fans . I wonder who The next Flash in the pan team will be. At least the Cowboys have been consistent forever, 8/8 is average but it’s consistent average. I’ll stay with the Cowboys

I think it’s cool how we still have fans on this board that saw Don Meredith, Don Perkins, and the 60’s legends play. I laugh at these threads wanting to publicly drop their loyalty because of a few bad seasons. We have fans who have been showing up for 50+ years.
Was extremely impressed with the effort they exerted and the way the Cowboys played in the miserable conditions in The Ice Bowl back in 1967. Right then and there they became my team! And to have had the privilege to have seen Bob Lilly, Dan Reeves and Bullet Bob play was a memorable time of my life. And was lucky enough to have seen Rodger Staubach play once in Texas Stadium.

You basically summed up my timeline. I moved to DC in 79 Cried after the 49ers game and had to deal with Washington fans after they made Danny White cry in the NFCCG along with the rise of Washington/Gibbs teams. Insufferable is the only thing I can tell you about their fans. The Raiders smashing of them in the Super Bowl is still one of my ally me favorites as it was so satisfying and humbling. Then the 90’s!!!

Can I just add what a great thread, nice to read all the stories about how the Cowboys came in your life, also nice to see the amount of old timers on here, I was always worried I was conversing with kids and clearly not.

Also nice to see a thread that doesn't sink to aggressive messages and 90% end up talking about Dak!
