Gallup is not a borderline #1. Lamb is maybe a borderline #1. Trading a legit #1 for nothing was dumb. I get getting tired of him, but trading Coop for nothing was dumb. Otherwise I really don’t have tons of issues with the offensive off-season. Maybe get a better guard. I didn’t want Collins back.
THEY WERE NOT GETTING ANYTHING MORE. Their only options were to keep him, take the 4th, or release him. They were up against a deadline where his contract became guaranteed. They didnt feel his production/availability matched the 20 million and they felt he was soft(basically) .
Other teams were not interested in giving up a 4th for Cooper...

Dolphins could have had Cooper for a 4th.
- Instead they give up a 1st, 2nd, 4th, 4th, 6th for Tyreek Hill and paid him 10M more per season than Cooper.

Three years ago the Raiders took a 1st for Cooper.
- This season they gave a 1st and 2nd for Davante Adams plus gave him a 140M contract.

Cleveland quickly re-worked Coopers contract, I would have done the same, kept Amari
until I was able to get Zeke off the books and land another true #1 or his replacement.

He did not take a pay cut. Cleveland just pushed part of his cap hit into future years. He still adds 20M to their running total cap hit over when all years are considered.

Football 101 is to avoid malcontent players.

See Jimmy, Belichick and Parcells examples.

It was re-worked for the cap, I didn't say pay cut.

Who was malcontent? Him or Jerry? Wasn't Jerry mad at him for not getting the vaccine?
Maybe he had a short memory of what Dak was before Cooper, or thought Lamb was a #1 or Dak was #2 or 3

The commentators in the game talked about how Tom Brady convinced him to sign with the Bucs...

So be decisive, get to him before Brady and get him $10 million to the Buc's 6 million.

You trade Cooper for Jones at half the price. It's still a no-brainer.

Hindsight is 20/20, but that's what I would have done.

Who are the people that got rid of Cooper tho? We are talking about the combo of Mayock and Gruden…look at the rest of their roster decisions, some of the worst roster building in a short stretch ever. They blew draft pick after draft pick and made a few other really bad trades and signings.

And then Jerry and Stephen…don’t have to say much there.

Only time will tell the real story, but the track records of who got rid of Cooper wouldn’t give me confidence that they made the right call.

Also, Belicheck brought in his own “malcontent” WR in Randy Moss that was a gigantic success. And the earth 90’s Cowboys were filled with players that could also easily fit your label. Parcells had LT…

Dallas free agents and 3rd round pick Tolbert who was not activated for the 1st game is basically a wide receiver by committee approach. It won't work. Dallas strategy of getting rid of Coopers contract and saving the money to sign players in 2023 has backfired on them. They have no options since Dallas is saving cap money until next year.

  • This is about Offense only. We can have another tread about defense.
  • Keep in mind that this was a year when other teams paid:
    • Connors Williams 7M per season.
    • Cedrick Wilson 7.35M per season.
    • Traded a 1st & 2nd for WR Davante Adams & gave him a 140M contract.
    • Traded 5 picks (1, 2, 4, 4, 6) for Tyreek Hill & gave him a 120M contract.
  • What should the Cowboys have done if they spent more money:
    • They couldn't give a big contract to a free agent LT to backup Tyron.
      • Signing another journeyman swing Tackle was not going to make things better.
    • They opted to give Tyron 1 more season to see if he could stay reasonably healthy.
      • They used a 1st round pick on a LT and kept Tyron for this final year.
      • It was a reasonable decision.
  • Moving on from Amari Cooper was about more than money.
    • Remember the Raiders also got tired of him.
    • Yes, obviously the Raiders got a premium pick from him, but there was a reason they were ready to move on.
  • Should they have signed another WR?
    • CeeDee had 79 catches for 1102 yards with a 65.8% catch rate in 2021.
      • Comp: Mike Evans had 74 catches for 1035 yards with a 54.9% catch rate (Yards/Catch +0.1 over CeeDee).
      • Evans had less catches/yards despite playing more snaps.
    • Gallup is a quality #2 WR and arguably #1 type NFL WR.
    • The Bucs signed Julio Jones for 1-year, 6M.
      • That looked good for game 1, however...
        • He played less snaps for 2020 & 2021 combined than CeeDee played in 2021.
        • i.e. Relatively high risk of injury at this point.
      • Also, Julio Jones only signed with the Bucs because of Brady.
        • Jones has made a ton of money already.
    • If just signing a free agent was the answer...
      • The Raiders could have saved themselves a 1st and 2nd round pick.
      • They gave up the picks and gave Davante Adams a big contract.
    • The Dolphins gave up 5 picks (1st, 2nd, 4th, 4th, 6th) for Tyreek Hill.
      • They also gave him a mega-contract.

Lets keep this real, the reason Cooper was given away for a bag or Doritos is because he would not get vaccinated last season.

Jerry and Junior basically said he was selfish and not a team player for doing that.

Had nothing to do with money, they could have easily kept him if they wanted to.

You are correct on the vaccination analogy. I won't comment further on that. Too bad the Jones place pride above the team performance on getting rid of Cooper. The season is basically over.

I was never on board on letting Cooper go especially for a 6th round pick. That's just stupid.

I would have signed Wilson. He was Dak's clutch receiver.

Lastly, having Noah Brown as your #2 receiver is flat out dumb. Sure, Julio Jones signed with Tampa Bay because of Brady. But the Cowboys didn't even attempt to go after him. They have all that cap space and didn't do squat with it.

Lamb was Cooper replacement. What are you talking a out?. When they drafted Lamb everyone knew Cooper days were numbered

Everyones fays are numbered. They did not have the intention of moving on from cooper this year when they drafted cd or when they extended cooper. Thats total bs.

Bottom line is Daks QBR and rating with and without Amari. How could you see that stone cold evidence in which Cooper elevated his numbers so much and then trade him away for a bag of peanuts. That was the most insane move I have ever seen but part of me was ok with the move because it will expose Dak much sooner for the fraud that he is and we could hopefully move on quicker. We are not winning with Dak.

they should have tried to keep cooper and mend things. he was under contract and covered in the cap. yeah, CD is good, but CD+Cooper would have been so much better.
We should have at least tried to keep wilson if we thought cooper is gone, so keep CD, Gallup, Wilson and no need to go cheap on Washington.

I am going to wait another couple of weeks before judging, but if conner williams ends up as a decent center then shame on cowboys org for not recognizing and just "liking" their own guy. as a center, it addresses his penalty issues.

they went cheap with Steele, thinking they got their answer. he hasn't been much good since mid last year....Collins was solid at RT.
steele would have been our swing tackle. a need.
Nick FOlk was available as a kicker...instead we went with a high school kid (yes, I am exagerating). and ended up with Maher, who we didn't like and had cut him once
we could have signed Miller who wanted to come here for cheaper. imagine Miller and parsons rushing from both sides and then Lawrence from the DE spot.

Malcontent is a player that does not want to be there or that complains.

Randy Moss did not complain about being in New England.

LT got into trouble but he didn't dislike being in NY.

Well, for starters you don't jettison your #1WR and get nothing of value in return.

And you don't extend your #3 WR when he has a torn ACL and you know he will miss at least the first 4 games of your coming season.
