Malcontent is a player that does not want to be there or that complains.

Randy Moss did not complain about being in New England.

LT got into trouble but he didn't dislike being in NY.

Show me evidence that Amari Cooper didn’t want to be with the Cowboys.
Is this horrific quote what you’re referring to that made it necessary to trade him?
“It’s very frustrating. But that’s not something that I can really control. But I do think there’s a benefit in me getting the ball in those important situations, like red zone and third down, because I know what I’m gonna do, you know what I mean? I’m just going to stay ready for when that time comes. Hopefully it’s soon.”

Wow what a terrible person Amari is, thank god we got that cancer out of the locker room

I know you are incapable of criticizing anything Cowboys, but isn’t it getting embarrassing for you to keep pretending like this is a competent franchise at this point?

THEY WERE NOT GETTING ANYTHING MORE. Their only options were to keep him, take the 4th, or release him. They were up against a deadline where his contract became guaranteed. They didnt feel his production/availability matched the 20 million and they felt he was soft(basically) .
I agree we weren’t getting more. I never said that. Keep him was what I was saying. You don’t give up a legit #1 for nothing. Not with the rest of this WR corps. I understand what the Jones’ were thinking, I think they were wrong, as they often are. You may not think they were wrong. We can disagree on that point.

Other teams were not interested in giving up a 4th for Cooper...

Dolphins could have had Cooper for a 4th.
- Instead they give up a 1st, 2nd, 4th, 4th, 6th for Tyreek Hill and paid him 10M more per season than Cooper.

Three years ago the Raiders took a 1st for Cooper.
- This season they gave a 1st and 2nd for Davante Adams plus gave him a 140M contract.
I was NOT saying we were going to get more for Coop. The Jones idiots always show their hand before they play their hand, so we will NEVER get anything in a trade. But I don’t agree with giving up Coop for nothing when they have nothing behind him. You can disagree with that. It’s ok.

I would have kept amari, and traded gallup last season anyway before he got hurt. You didnt need to sign anyone.

Agree with this. I would have kept Cedric Wilson too because of his chemistry with Dak. It was pretty good at times
As soon as we drafted ceedee i was so hyped cuz of amari and ceedee as a 1 2 punch for years to come. Instead we pay an injured guy who isnt close to amari even when hes healthy

  • This is about Offense only. We can have another tread about defense.
  • Keep in mind that this was a year when other teams paid:
    • Connors Williams 7M per season.
    • Cedrick Wilson 7.35M per season.
    • Traded a 1st & 2nd for WR Davante Adams & gave him a 140M contract.
    • Traded 5 picks (1, 2, 4, 4, 6) for Tyreek Hill & gave him a 120M contract.
  • What should the Cowboys have done if they spent more money:
    • They couldn't give a big contract to a free agent LT to backup Tyron.
      • Signing another journeyman swing Tackle was not going to make things better.
    • They opted to give Tyron 1 more season to see if he could stay reasonably healthy.
      • They used a 1st round pick on a LT and kept Tyron for this final year.
      • It was a reasonable decision.
  • Moving on from Amari Cooper was about more than money.
    • Remember the Raiders also got tired of him.
    • Yes, obviously the Raiders got a premium pick from him, but there was a reason they were ready to move on.
  • Should they have signed another WR?
    • CeeDee had 79 catches for 1102 yards with a 65.8% catch rate in 2021.
      • Comp: Mike Evans had 74 catches for 1035 yards with a 54.9% catch rate (Yards/Catch +0.1 over CeeDee).
      • Evans had less catches/yards despite playing more snaps.
    • Gallup is a quality #2 WR and arguably #1 type NFL WR.
    • The Bucs signed Julio Jones for 1-year, 6M.
      • That looked good for game 1, however...
        • He played less snaps for 2020 & 2021 combined than CeeDee played in 2021.
        • i.e. Relatively high risk of injury at this point.
      • Also, Julio Jones only signed with the Bucs because of Brady.
        • Jones has made a ton of money already.
    • If just signing a free agent was the answer...
      • The Raiders could have saved themselves a 1st and 2nd round pick.
      • They gave up the picks and gave Davante Adams a big contract.
    • The Dolphins gave up 5 picks (1st, 2nd, 4th, 4th, 6th) for Tyreek Hill.
      • They also gave him a mega-contract.
God i hate when people are right about the Cowboys off season

Guessing responses will be much different after a win then the loss.

what would Joseph do: --have done?

I would have signed a swing OT like say Jason Peters 3 weeks earlier. I understand why they did not but it was very foreseeable that Tyron would get injured.
We gambled here and lost when BOTH Tyron and McGovern went down.
It'd get real scary real fast if one more OL goes down because we are at the dregs.
I'd REALLY like this OL if Tyler Smith was still at LG bullying people, and we had a rock-solid guy like Peters out at LT.

I would have signed a James Washington type vet to replace James Washington when he got injured. Didn't need elite but someone who knows NFL defenses and how to get into space.

Stuff I 100% agreed with:
1. Letting Randy walk at those rates. Still glad he got paid, still glad it wasn't here. --Hat tip to team for adding Fowler and drafting Sam Williams. This DL is SF like and can win games almost by itself.
2. Cutting La'el. I can't work with a liar. If you make a mistake, own it and I will fight for you but you make me look stupid fighting for when after you lied and I am done, DONE.
3. Trading/Releasing Cooper. Amari was 1B last year with CeeDee 1A so plenty good but 60m over 3 years for a declining player thats crowing about his targets and missing practice because he has a history of plantar fasciitis? Naw I'm good.
4. Not stressing Kicker and letting the kids try before adding a proven vet. You can find a Kicker. No need to panic there early in Training Camp. Always a couple proven vets available after cuts.

I'd have brought Will Fuller in. He would have been a solid #2 until Gallup is back, which is still looking like might not be for a few more games. If he got hurt, fine, at that point you'd likely have Gallup back. If he could stay healthy (yes a big if), you could be rolling with a threesome of Lamb, Gallup and Fuller, with Brown being a really good #4. Fuller when healthy can really put stress on a secondary. You have him running deep routes with Lamb working underneath? That's money.

I think I posted some of this in the offseason, but to be on the record...
  • I wanted Connor Williams gone. I wanted Collins gone, and I wanted Gregory gone (both because of their playoff penalties).
  • I would have restructured Amari and traded 1 of Gallup or Ceedee (I think you get more than what we got for Amari, and I would have resigned Ced Wilson. I posted somewhere else a twitter with the stats of the offensive numbers with and without Amari. I wanted those stats with Amari on the field, even if he didn't produce the numbers himself.
  • If I keep Amari, one of Gallup/Ceedee, and Wilson. I do not resign Schultz (close to JAG then top 5 imo). Either resign a reasonable 6-12 rank price or let him go and sign a cheap vet.
  • Sign Anger (important, a weapon).
  • Sign Kearse (important, a key part of the defense last year imo).
  • Sign Dorance Armstrong (I felt he was underrated last year and would be even better this year with more reps).
  • Draft was ok. However, I would have drafted the best kicker in the draft with a 5th instead of Clark. (Was hoping they'd do something like this, oh well)
  • Sign one of Bobby Wagner or Von Miller (using saving from Schultz franchise).
  • Not sign another OL, but sign Peters after Tyron goes down.
  • Don't resign Carlos Watkins (or cut him), keep a younger guy.
  • I honestly would have tried to trade for Jimmy G, and then trade Dak in the offseason. If this happens, I probably don't take Tyler Smith, use some of what we got from a Dak trade to trade up and get a top pick on a future QB. (This is more of like my dream scenario rather than a reality)
This would have been my ideal scenario.

What they should have done was keep Cooper
Signed 2 veteran interior linemen a Guard and a Center
The only reason Jerry let Cooper go was because he wouldn't get vaccinated
Our Achilles last year was that we were weak in the middle of the line.
Instead of building on last year, and addressing the holes he created more holes
If Jerry let copper go because he didn’t get the vaccine, jerry is an idiot….and I’m a medical professional. Those mandates were completely ridiculous and unconstitutional, not to mention they were, in comparison to other vaccines, weak and don’t stop infection or spread.

He let him go because of lack of effort. We also got to see why they let Collins go as well.

Its tough to stay motivated IF Dak stopped throwing the ball to Amari after his comments about Dak being an inaccurate passer.

None. We're doing a mini rebuild, and signing high priced FA's is the wrong way to go. Let the young guys play so we can see what we have, and then use that salary cap space next off.

Cowboys STILL have over 20M in cap space.

Cowboys very clearly and WILLINGLY decided to weaken their offense with loss of FOUR key starters:
  • Amari Cooper
  • Lael Collins
  • Connor Williams
  • Cedric Wilson
Cowboys #6 WR (Malik Turner) also allowed to walk. Cowboys decided to retain and pay the injured guy instead (Michael Gallup).

Playoff teams add MORE talent in offseason to better compete, not get rid of key personnel without replacing said players first.
Connor Williams made our O-line better by leaving. He was a holding call every time he put on the uniform. We couldn’t have him here and I hope he does well for the Fins.

You and I both know that these guys running this team hate high-end capable FA’s. Stiffs like Washington though are welcome.
