If the season were to end today, and you're evaluating this roster, seeing how well Smith is playing/has played thus far, is Tyron done in Dallas?

(Sorry for the long sentence). We all love #77, he's been great in Dallas. I would love to see Smith work with Smith to get as strong or close to being as strong as he is in the gym. Please give your thoughts

Tyron is done in Dallas and likely the NFL. He still has the ability, he just cannot stay healthy. When was the last time he played a complete season? Like 4-5 years or something? If he wants to take a low value contract to stay on the team and basically be a swing tackle and only play occasionally then I'd love to keep him around. That would extend his career and he would only need to play sparingly. I'm not sure he would want that though.

I think he still has trade value in the NFL.

Teron Armstead is very similar to Tyron Smith. Élite level LT that is plagued by injuries. Still got a huge deal with Miami.

So, I think the team could get something of value via trade. Nothing stupid high, but teams are willing to roll the dice on great LT's even with injury concerns.

We will get a 10-12 game sample from Tyler Smith. We should have a good idea of his current play at LT by then and I think if he stays at the level he's at/improves some in season it will be the end of Tyron at LT. Could see if he would want to play RT prior to cutting/trading him.

I'm going to say his future all depends on how he comes back from this injury if he can be plugged in somewhere on this offensive line and be better than Steel or McGovern by all means we should do it and keep him.

I mean this isn't rocket science we want the best five guys out there I don't care if Tyron plays center if he's better than the one we have.

If he comes back a shadow of his former self and is even more of an injury prone liability unfortunately it'll be time to move on but at this point it's really just a waiting game to see how he recovers

For instance if he comes back and plays well at whatever position he's put at The smart move would be offload him while he's healthy and contributing to a team like Cincinnati that is in desperate need where we could get a draft pick and build towards the future

Nothing will happen with him this year because he is unlikely to return until week 16 or 17. The Cowboys can leave him on IR the entire season without consequence, other than to Jerry's wallet. However, letting him go in the offseason is a possibility.

Let him go? I doubt it.

I looked at OTC and the 13 million savings comes after June 1st cut. Before June 1st it's a 9.6 million savings.

True but now days you can designate him as a June 1st cut. So technically he is still part of the roster until June 1st but for the most part will be released on June 1st

I love Tyron. One of my favorite all time players.

I just think that the Stephen Jones Cowboys aren't going to carry underperforming contracts any longer than they need to, and there's a clear opportunity to move on after this season.

I'd love to see a DLaw situation where he restructures into a more team friendly deal, but they are going to have to make some guarantees that I doubt they will be willing to do with a player who misses so much time.
