True but now days you can designate him as a June 1st cut. So technically he is still part of the roster until June 1st but for the most part will be released on June 1st

But you don't get the money till after June 1st and free agency is over by then.

I rather have 9.6 million to use in free agency than wait for 13 million that won't be used.

I will say I think the Cowboys will do right by Tyron, in that if he requests a release they will release him over trading him to some hellhole franchise.

McGovern is in line to be the next overpaid draftee.

They won't want to let him go and watch another OL go elsewhere and play better.

We are pretty much Smith/McG/TB/Martin/Steele for the next couple years.

Is that a BAD thing? I don't think so, but the better question is if it's good enough to provide this QB what he needs to succeed.

Sort of....there are enough work arounds these days to where it isn't a big deal (in most cases) unless a team is right up against the cap. Typically a team will keep some money available either to use keep some flexibility during the season or roll over to the next year. In theory Dallas could use every penny until June 1st, move on from Tyron and utilize that $13MM as that that flexible money.

All that is assuming the Cowboys dont just use one of their designation tags on Tyron....Not sure exactly how that rule works, but I believe a team gets 2 June 1st designation tags per year where they can cut someone before june 1st, but still get the june 1st cap benefits? Someone correct me if I'm wrong there.

If the season were to end today, and you're evaluating this roster, seeing how well Smith is playing/has played thus far, is Tyron done in Dallas?

(Sorry for the long sentence). We all love #77, he's been great in Dallas. I would love to see Smith work with Smith to get as strong or close to being as strong as he is in the gym. Please give your thoughts

You're driving on the road across Texas, far out in the country. You've been driving all night. It is 4am and you truly are in a place you've never been before. No lights from any city, and the darkness means you haven't seen a farm house in hours.

Your left rear tire explodes after running over something you didn't see. In the trunk is that old tire you kept that has been plugged twice. You thought about tossing it out, but you didn't. You agreed with your friends it has no value what so ever.

Yet here you are in dire need of a tire to get you back to civilization, and there is Old Plugger, quietly waiting for his turn again. He's paid for and has a bit of life left to get you where you need to go.

To answer your question, no, you do not get rid of Tyron. He's paid for. He still has a bit of tread left. Especially when someone suggested he has trade value. What would that be? A 7th round pick? Because the rest of the league has seen his history, just like Dallas.

You now have a rotation, and perhaps your best front five in a long time with Peters, Tyron, Steele, and Tyler.

Fans are funny. They come up with these ideas, thinking things will stay static, and moving along a guy who has been paid is a good idea.

Those are the types of fans that either sit in their car waiting for daylight, or walk for hours in the dark looking for help.

One last point. What if the Bucs game was an aberration and this team gels and comes together? Defense can chew cold blue steel, and the offense can protect the QB who needs time to throw. Gallup comes back. and the offense becomes a team that can move the sticks and grind out enough points to beat the score the defense gives up.

Far fetched? Maybe. But I am not afraid of any team in the NFC East.

His money was vested as a veteran for this season so no moves this year.
My guess is he retires next year unless he just really wants to chase a title.
He's wealthy and should get out while he can enjoy retirement.

Tyron has a lot of mileage on him. As a fairly lean big man, he absorbs more punishment then bulkier heavier men.
Less padding to be exact.
Unless he sees a ring coming real soon I can see him retiring next year.

Next offseason, it should happen
Especially since.it looks every bit that we have finally found our long term permanent starting LT in Tyler Smith

And didn't Jerry make a comment that the player that walked or was traded was a result of ?
and who was the spotlight of " availability " question more than Tyron Smith ?

Sure it will be about dead money cap hit, but what's the point of continuing to pay out a big contract for a guy that will sure, automatically be
guaranteed to be long term injured ?

And we've cut big name, HOF'ers and legendary Cowboys players before in the past, ..why would/should Tyron be any different ?

Tyron is done in Dallas and likely the NFL. He still has the ability, he just cannot stay healthy. When was the last time he played a complete season? Like 4-5 years or something? If he wants to take a low value contract to stay on the team and basically be a swing tackle and only play occasionally then I'd love to keep him around. That would extend his career and he would only need to play sparingly. I'm not sure he would want that though.
Smith has played a full 16 game season 4 times in 11 seasons. For reference Peters has played a full 16 game season 5 times in 17 seasons. As of week 2 Smith has missed 36 games in 11seasons during his career. For reference Terron Armstead has missed 48 in 9 seasons. He got a 5 yr 87m contract 53 guaranteed this off-season and oh, he’s never not once played a full 16 game season. You seem to have both a simplistic comprehension of how durable Smith has actually been and the value of the left tackle position!

Sure, but why would you want to. 12 million dead cap now… 8 if you wait till after the season. Trading Cooper and Releasing Collins was necessitated in part because of releasing Jaylen Smith mid season!

I think we will have that answer in a few days/next week. If they slide smith down to LG and Peters is the LT this year, then i think that shows they want Tyron back for another year to allow more of an adjustment period for the rookie. However, if they keep Smith out at Left Tackle and Peters is either the LG or the Swing, then it is now the rookies position for next several years. At that point, what do you do with Tyron? He can still play sure but where, will he agree to be a swing and if so, do we ask him to take a pay cut after really him giving the team a good deal for many years? do you try and trade him? do you just cut him and let him pick where he goes? If the rookie remains at LT this year, even with Peters here, then Tyron is done as the LT of the Dallas Cowboys.

No way belichick would keep him.....thats a good way to measure it by. He doesn't keep a player on his team 1 second more if they aren't of value to the team anymore

Don't even mention this to Jerry because everything here is done with love gratitude and kind words about said player so they never release them when they could have
