Giants and Eagles didn’t have championship defenses or franchise qbs have they? I can’t remember how good or bad the Eagles defense was.
I said with rare exceptions.

And the Egirls had a top 5 defense. And a QB that played at MVP level .

NY a similar story with a defense that caused havoc and pressure . And a QB who played his best on the biggest stages and could end up being a HOFamer.

But these two stories are the exception.

Should we give more credit to Jerry and Stephen Jones on this? Or should Jerry get more blame since he has been unable to find a successful coach to guide this amount of wasted talent since 2000?
whats the source of this info, I wonder if it counts players drafted by one team who made the pro bowl with another team

Panthers made the SB with neither….Rams didn’t have neither….Bengals had neither…I think ultimately the best team wins. I know that sounds generic but it’s not about stats or rankings it’s about who’s peaking at the right time.

Who hired McClay though?
Hiring McClay doesn't mean you pick the players. It just means you hired the person who picked the players.
Or very simply put, just because I hire the best architect doesn't mean I get credit for building the Taj Mahal. ;)

It highlights the reality that you can't build a team just by drafting alone. For all the pro bowlers we drafted since 2000, we have three freaking playoff wins since 2000.

Poor coaching hires and stupidity in FA have been what has held us back. That's on Jerry and no one else.

Precisely. Completely ignoring half of the team building equation is a path to nowhere. You can’t possibly draft enough pro bowlers to build a true contender.

Until Jerry and Stephen understand that sometimes it’s ok to push all the chips in and make a few splash signings when they are exactly what you need to supercharge a good roster, this team is going to struggle to get back to the mountaintop.

Yes. It actually makes me a bit sad. If we had moved on from Garrett quicker and used FA to do more than just fill in spots with cheap players, we might have another title by now.

I’d argue Burrows is becoming an Elite QB. And Stafford is close to it. Rams also had pretty close to Elite defense.

Balance is the key. Cowboys are getting closer to the caliber defense needed. But now our offense is slipping and probably don’t have an Elite enough QB. Maybe he could make a MVP type performance down the stretch into the playoffs making a deeper run? We just haven’t seen his best performances on the bigger stages. Not saying it can’t happen but it hasn’t. Looking for the exception isn’t encouraging.

Who hired McC!ay ??
He was originally hired by Joe Avezzano of the Dallas Desperados who are owned by the Cowboys.

When Joe was hired by Norv Turner, Will became HC of Desperados . Will became a college talent scout for Cowboys and promoted to director of player personnel under Jason Garrett who encouraged his involvement in draft.

For the record, they've also won more during the regular season than any other team not named the Packers.

And the Packers were founded in 1920, while Dallas was founded in 1960.

Unfortunately there are multiple ways to add talent to a roster. It takes a combination of all of that and a good HC to being home another Lombardi. You can't get there by just drafting good.

You say that. But I think you really can. Especially if you draft soundly. Not just drafting well, but soundly.

And with some of our UDFA pickups to add to that, it can pay off. It just takes time and bringing in the right UDFAs, which has been an underrated aspect of our personnel department over the years. Romo, Kearse, Mile Austin, Hendershot, etcetera.

Yep, you nailed it.

If you don't hire the architect, you don't get the Taj Mahal.

We have been very good at drafting. You have to give them credit there- I know most won’t it will turn into “yes but there all fan votes how many all pros” but the fact is they draft very well and particularly with first round picks.

where they lack is hiring coaches and filling out the staff and allocating dollars via free agency or lack there of.

They also drafted well this year. Some of our fans are just too dense or obsessed to realize it.

Judging a player by Super Bowl wins is the most overrated stat in history
Judging an FO however is not.
So when Jerry and Stephen have had to build a team within the current salary cap/ free agency era then its total failure.
