Gil Brandt's 14 greatest NFL tight ends of all time. He has Witty at #4. The highest ranking was #6 on other sites. Agree with Gill 110%. https://www.nfl.com/photos/gil-brandt-s-14-greatest-nfl-tight-ends-of-all-time-0ap3000000816049

Quite a hottie too. @Xelda
Needs to be ROH for sure.
Jerry's given up on that ROH thingie. Witty will be in the Hall for sure. Phenomenal athlete!
Witten is effectively Cal Ripken Jr.

Very good player that played along time, but not necessarily a game changing dynamic player at his position.

People put down Witten on this board, but even old Witten was productive and would get first downs.
He would also have crazy drops turned into picks, weekly false start, and could only run a 5 yard out. He was great, but we kept him a few years too long.

Perhaps you are talking about a different player. Witten and drops are not synonymous like TO and Drops would've been. Whitten may have became slow later on, but he knew where the first down marker was and knew how to run his routes well. You don't have to be the fastest guy on the field if you know your routes and get first downs.

Witten was the greatest chain moving TE of all time. He's the Michael Irvin of TE's.

If you feel like bashing him and berating his play, you are having cognitive problems. Go away.

Witten was great in his early years. His rookie year he played with a broken Jaw. Later in his career he was pretty much a blocking tight end and good for picking up four yards on 3rd and 6. He should be in the ring of honor because of how popular he was. I struggle with HOF because there was no playoff success with the teams he was on.

Maybe players like Barry Sanders, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Dan Marino, LaDainian Tomlinson should be taken out of the hall for not demonstrating consistent playoff success? What do you think?

Well done!!!!!

Bruce Matthews, Dan Fouts. Did Julius Peppers or Kevin Greene win one? Darren Woodson was one of the greatest S's of all time, no super bowls.

There is a BIG difference between Sanders, Moss, Marino and Witten. Witten was very good but he’s not the game changer they were. I’d support TO and LT not being the HOF for the same criteria I’d use for Witten. I just don’t get a vote.

Jay Novacek was a chain mover too and a big part of 3 SBs.....you will never hear him mentioned for HOF though.... maybe because of longevity....but he was really good too

I couldn't agree more. I don't think opposing coaches were staying up asking, "How do we guard this guy."

Obviously, his longevity and his target share are impressive. However, for all the talk about what a great team guy he was it is important to note that he completely abandoned team in the middle of the draft to try something else (I get it, great ooportunity blah blah blah).

And then dumb*** Garrett thought it would be a good thing to name this guy captain when he returned to the team after abandoning them.

Those last Garrett years were completely dysfunctional.

And so what? I don;t think anyone has claimed he was a game changer, have they?
Trying to think of a single post you have ever made that was worth a bucket of warm spit.
Can't.
