lol...

The other replacing males with females for the sake of having more females is a dumb decision. Shuri is the logical choice to succeed her brother though.
I don't know, maybe, but I like her as the somewhat sidekick/comic relief/brains. At least she should be easy to look at in the costume.

You can't have ANOTHER male hero! :muttley:

Looks to me like most all of them are being gender-swapped as female at this point:

We had Jane Foster Thor, She-Hulk, female Hawkeye, and we’ll soon have the female Iron Man. And now we’ll have a female Black Panther. I’m all for equality, but the pendulum is now swinging too far in the other direction.

How about maybe just some ORIGINAL female characters?

I just don’t care for the actor in the role. That and her clear lack of physicality for the part. As a matter of fact, production was stopped for months because she got hurt during filming. It’s also an investment in a person.

They're making it look like Shuri is the new Black Panther and I hope that's true because she's the logical choice. If they go with someone else it would be stupid.

I am a big believer in mimicking a character in the books and following a workable formula will make for an optimal transition to the big screen. Shuri as Black Panther and facing off against Namor was canon back in 2009/2010.

My main concern is whether Letitia Wright is up to the challenge. I am not looking for her to copy Chadwick Boseman. What I hope for is a leading actress type performance that is a notable step up from her supporting role seen in Black Panther.
Shuri makes the most sense, but showing that in the trailer was dumb.
I think it is safe guessing the reveal is to boost audience speculation to further hype the movie. Admittedly, the gamble may backfire depending on the film's overall quality.

‘Avengers: Secret Wars’: Michael Waldron Tapped To Pen Upcoming Installment For Marvel Studios
By Justin Kroll | Deadline
October 3, 2022

EXCLUSIVE: Following the success of Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Michael Waldron looks to be in line for another high-profile Marvel property as sources tell Deadline he is set to write Avengers: Secret Wars for Marvel Studios.

Deadline recently broke that Jeff Loveness was on board to write Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, following the news Destin Daniel Cretton would direct Kang Dynasty for Marvel Studios, and now both films have locked up their writers. Insiders add that Secret Wars will have its own director, though it’s assumed all parties will be in touch while the films are in development. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is producing.

Marvel Studios had no comment on the Waldron news.

Like The Kang Dynasty, plot details are being kept under wraps. Avengers: Secret Wars was part of the massive unveiling of the future phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe at this summer’s San Diego Comic-Con, including its November 8, 2025, release date.

I’m not a fan of that idea. I’d much rather it be Okoye or M’Baku.
I agree somewhat about M'Baku.

He did challenge T'Challa for the Wakandan throne afterward. However, that was more his goal towards returning the country back to its more traditionalist roots than desiring the mantle of the Black Panther.

At best, he would have been Black Panther for his people but would rejected being a hero for the world at large.

Okoye would have made a better Black Panther but she would have wanted the mantle even less than M'Baku. She held no aspirations for the throne also.

For me, the best heroes are those who do not seek power and accept it for a "greater good" beyond themselves. For all her playfulness seen in the original film, Shuri used her scientific genius to benefit all of Wakanda while ensuring her brother was equipped with the finest technology.

The character grew up with ritual duty and honor of royalty but hid behind her brother's ownership of both. Circumstance will thrust the responsibility upon Shuri. The comic book version makes her the best Black Panther candidate of the three in my opinion. My question is whether the real life Letitia Wright can fully adopt and project the comic book version of her as Black Panther on screen.

The hero's physicality is a real hurdle for the movie. The character portrayed it in the first movie but not overwhelmingly in a convincing fashion. My hope is that Scarlett Johansson's fight choreographer or another similar professional trained with Wright for this movie. That will help very much in helping blend any scenes of her as unmasked Shuri with scenes of her CGI self and make all her Black Panther appearances more believable for the audience.

One other thing I do selfishly want is a smooth transition from Boseman to Wright as @nobody already alluded to. Becoming the Black Panther is either an act of royal succession or via challenge.

The challenge was showcased in the first movie. I think a another challenge would be repetitive in the sequel. The first movie already established there were

were past Black Panthers who were female, as seen during the second ancestors' astral sequence.

There is no real requirement or need for a second challenge sequence. Just avoid all that and go straight into "With great power comes great responsibility. This is my gift. My curse. Who am I? I'm BLACK PANTHER!"

Yeah, it just feels forced, having so many being changed or joining the MCU at the same time.
