Long way to go this year but for whatever reason Mike McCarthy has gotten the incompetent boob label put on him despite success that mirrors the heavily coveted Sean Payton.

Nothing would please me more than to see his fat fist hoist another Lombardi in their arrogant faces.

Excellent thought pattern here! ^^^^^^^^

In another thread I gave credit to the coaching staff for meshing the (new) talent, coaching them up, game planning and preparation. Fat Mac has done this. He deserves his kudos. No coach is perfect, they all have blunders. MM is doing a good job right now ! An excellent job !

100%. How people think Payton is somehow a massive upgrade over McCarthy is beyond me. McCarthy has been a good coach for a long time. I think he is solidly tier 2. He's not TheBestIntheLeague, but he's way better than Garrett was and is totally competent coach.

These are MY OPINION

Tier 1 - Belichick, Andy Reid, Mike Tomlin, John Harbaugh
Tier 2 - Mike McCarthy, Sean Payton*, Kyle Shanahan, Pete Carrol, Doug Peterson

As always folks can nitpick other's opinions and posts. Please don't take my comments this way. Just and observation.

I like Tomlin and he has a SB win. But his teams, while pretty well prepared, haven't put fear in anyone for a few years. Especially so since the "good" Rapistberger is gone. So I would drop him a peg into the tier 2 category. I am also tempted to push Carroll up to the Tier 1 level. Always competitive but like Tomlin can't seem to gather enough or the right combo of talent.

Good post though!!!! And I like a splash of Crown from time to time!

I stump for Tomlin because he never had a losing season despite playing in the AFCN, 2 super bowl appearances and just the fact that even with crap rosters, they are at least competitive. But i can understand the push to knock him down.

That said, if Tomlin is Tier 2, no way is Carrol Tier 1. I can understand the argument of knocking Tomlin down, but Carroll has a worse resume.

McCarthy is better than anything Dallas has had since Parcells.

He was a top 4 head coach in Cowboys history the day he walked in the building.

Landry
Johnson
Parcells
McCarthy

...though that's as much an indictment against the likes of Switzer, Gailey, Campo, Phillips and Garrett.

People likes to say he don't do nothing, but teams just don't win in spite of coaching. If you notice during the games, he's always looking at the play sheet and talking in the headphones. Even on defense he's on the headphones.

Funny that, 12 months ago everyone was saying the same thing then. Come January and a defeat in the playoffs and everyone wanted him out.

This is pretty ignorant
apparently, they think he shows up locks his office door and naps 18hoiurs and on gameday had fake headphones and Dennys menu, just planning his dinner.
and somehow Jerry and Stehpen would allow this and pays the man 4mil to do nothing???

I wonder how much it has to do with drafting better? Dallas has avoided the wildcat pick since Mike arrived.

no stupid trade ups either. Stay put draft smart. McCarthy has done more in 3 years than Garrett in 10. The team is night and day better and there’s quality competition at every level.

What a difference a year makes. The reaction here was completely the opposite.

McCarthy has been just the next sacrificial lamb in the eyes of many.

It is remarkable to me how this team was deer in the headlights in the PO game last season, and in the opener this season but are fighting their butts off to scratch out these wins since then.

McCarthy deserves a lot of credit for that.

Not only that, but I don't remember Payton doing this well without Brees. Mike's done brilliantly without Dak, and I think Cooper Rush has benefited from the Mike throwing ability. If you watch how he throws now compared to when Garrett was here, it's a night and day difference. He looks a bit like a poor man's Matt Hasselback, who was a decent player. Not great, but he was a solid QB.
