DaRon Bland vs. Jourdan Lewis

Jourdan Lewis was an All-American corner at Michigan, and was hands down a better college CB than DaRin Bland. Lewis has better natural instincts than many NFL Defensive backs. But what Lewis has always lacked is NFL speed. That is why he’s just not a viable NFL corner for outside receivers. It is also why a 6th round pick with less talent, but 4.35 speed has remained ahead of him on the Cowboys depth chart. Yes, I am talking about Anthony Brown.

On the other hand, Bland has better NFL size and speed than Lewis, and may be more naturally skilled than Brown. Bland has a better chance to be an impactful NFL corner than both Lewis and Brown in the long-term.

If the Kelvin Joseph can ever start living up to his draft status, the Cowboys are pretty deep at cornerback. By the end of this season, Jourdan Lewis, who is a good nickel cornerback, might just be the 5th best CB the Cowboys have. That’s a good problem to have.

You're back on your emphasis on SPEED. Didnt you also question Wilson's ability as a NFL due to his lack of speed?? Instinct and football intelligence can overcome speed/size.

Some posters mocked me several weeks ago for suggesting Jourdan Lewis be replaced by rookie DaRon Bland. By coincidence, Jourdan Lewis injured himself this past Sunday during pre-game warm-ups against the Commanders, so rookie DaRon Bland got the green light to start in Lewis' place at nickle CB. The result: DaRon Bland: 3 solo tackles, 1 pass deflection and 1 interception.

"The Cowboys defense as a whole was impressive all game and late in the fourth quarter, Bland jumped a route for his first career interception. Bland’s first interception is Wentz’s second on the day as Dallas turns it into a quick field goal to make it a 25-10 lead. If Bland continues to perform, it’ll be hard to take him out of the nickel spot that Lewis has commanded for a few years."

I'm still waiting to hear from those posters.

Joseph seems like he has significant bust potential.
Thats what happens when you draft guys with serious character issues and questionable intelligence. Red flags were all out on him beforehand. The talent is there but the maturity level seems nonexistent. If he wakes up and matures at some point, he could be a steal - we shall see. I sure wouldn't bet on it.

Spot on. some times people look too closely on the physical traits (against fellow college players) rather than how that player will develop, learn and project to progress especially against the better opposition at the highest level.

Joseph appears to be struggling at the 'top two inch' test.

When J Lewis is healthy he has to get his job back but it's great to know a very capable guy like Bland is there to take up slack when Lewis goes down.

I love Bland, it says a lot when a player has a good camp and at the last minute has to start. And, he did very well. Meanwhile, Joseph has been a "blessing" on special teams. Another example of why they should trade their 2nd round picks.
I wouldn't suggest he's better than Lewis or Brown just yet. We're dealing with a very small sample size. Not to mention the defense has great depth.
I'll say again, I love this kid.

Then we have the Richard Sherman's and Jerry Rices of the world.

If all we needed were Sparq scores the draft would be incredibly easy.

Lewis was always overrated and underwhelming based on the hype. Joseph appears to be the same. Hopefully the Bland kid can develop into something.

So far Joseph appears to have been WAY over drafted.

Joseph is proving to be a guy who has the physical talent but not the will. Just like Irving, can't really do anything with that kind of a guy because football will never be his focus, instead it will be one of the things that he focuses on.

I'm not going to suggest anything about Bland regarding his NFL potential because the sample size is way too small to even remotely feel I know enough to do so. However, he certainly had a very nice showing Sunday, so I'm anxious to see how it goes.

Based on what?

The fact he's playing behind some ballers?

Give him some time.
He’s a second round pick who can’t see the field. It’s pretty hard to make a case that he wasn’t over drafted at this point.

Yeah, like in UDFA over-drafted.
Looking like a late round flier value or udfa value so far to me. It really sucks that we continue to waste second round picks. How much better would this OL be is we had drafted Creed Humphrey instead?

Wasted pick so far. Total waste.
