Yeah, there’s gonna be some growing pains for sure. But I’ve been hugely impressed by him.

First impression after the draft was he would need a ton of technique work, but he seemed really intelligent and loved football.

the fact that they worked him at two spots in mini camp, then exclusively at Guard in camp, then had to completely shift him to LT 2 weeks prior to opening week, did not portend for him play this well. He’s only going to get better and he plays with a nasty disposition too.

One big worry that I have this week is with Tyler. I believe he got hit with 2 holding calls vs L.A., I hope that he doesn't become a constant target for the refs going forward.
I’m more concerned about Pollard’s pass protection on a blind side blitz that causes a strip sack fumble return. I was expecting Rush to fumble on the Ramsey blitz. He pulled an Aaron Rodgers when Heath hit him in the 2016 playoff game.

Relax. It was Aaron Donald.
Until he proves otherwise, I think Tyler has earned the benefit of the doubt.

Very few humans in the history of mankind are as big, strong and mobile as Donald. So I don't think there is a reason to worry about Tyler just yet.

One was pretty lame and was the kind of stuff every OL does on almost every play. He was matched up with Donald most of the day and kept him from taking over the game. I’m old enough to remember rookie Larry Allen getting tossed 5 feet with one arm by Reggie White. White beat him a few times that day but Allen held his own verses the best there was for most of the game. We all know what happened next. Smith may not become Allen but he held his own just like Allen did against the best in the league and is only five games into his rookie season. Not bad at all!

Every time I think of Reggie White I can't help but remember Eric Williams consistently dominating him.

I'm pretty sure Rush fumbled, but the ball just happened to fall into the curled up void that Rush made on the ground.

And honestly I thought one was pretty tricky tack. He was playing the best DL in the league not named Parsons and wasn't given any help. After the two sacks, I really don't remember much from Donald after that. Learning experience that will benefit him later.

Someone mentioned something about him saying that Peters gave him some tips on what he needed to do after the early issues. Good to hear that not only is Peters trying to help the young lineman, but that he's able to process and use what he's told quickly.

Definitely not a concern for me. The kid is good and only gonna get better. He handled Donald well. That speaks volumes

I think donald makes a lot of people hold. He had a pretty solid game considering. I saw he gave Martin trouble also. McGovern actually did better than I thought. He held off donald a few times.

Parsons was held really bad several times in front of the refs and was not called. Some of these plays needs to be sent to the refs to review.

For Pete's sake, it was Aaron Donald he was going against. The rookie did well to only get two holding calls and keep Cooper Rush alive and standing at the end of the game. Tyler Smith is doing a great job as a rookie. Maybe you don't remember the late great Reggie White tossing around Larry Allen as a rookie. It never happened again. I suspect the same will be true for Tyler Smith. He will become one of the great ones for the next ten years, I am hoping.
