What is the real reason for trading Amari Cooper?

Amari Cooper is clearly a talented NFL wide receiver. He has size, speed, and superior route running ability. So why have both the Raiders and the Cowboys cut ties with him after 3-1/2 seasons in each location?

The missed trade for Brandon Cooks, and the potential signing of Odell Beckham, Jr. means that it wasn’t money that drove the decision to part with Cooper. Both players will command salaries similar to Cooper.

From the outside looking in, it appears that Amari has always been the consummate professional in how he handles himself with fans and the media. So it is a bit baffling that he has only had a shelf life of about 42 months in each location prior to being traded a second time to the Browns for only a 5th round pick.

The reality is that although offensive production is down in Dallas this year, we don’t know how much of that to attribute to the loss of Cooper. The injury to Dak, and the renewed commitment to running the football have also contributed to the lower overall production through the first 8 games.

Frankly, I’m left wondering what it is about Cooper that we don’t know.
Productions versus 20 mil a year.
This comes from all the bad deals we’ve made with jaylon smith, lael, Zeke, etc

I think there were also some issues with inconsistent effort, willingness to play though injuries, etc.

Bingo, bingo, .........but I'm adding practice alone with "play". How many times did we hear Coop was not practicing? My guess is they voice their concern but coz his contract, Coop practiced when he wanted to. Remember Jerry using the availability regarding Coop .......I'm guessing he was coding the vaxx issue and accessive days of not practicing.

I think it came down to the fact Amari could beat Micah in chess, and when Jerry suggested he allow Micah to win, Amari said no.

Jerry said during his weekly radio interview he traded Cooper because of money.

Well, if were something more personal, like the "Black Kirk Cousins" comment, I don't think Jerry would've said so.

I don't think it's any more complicated than this.

Yep.

When you rub Jerry the wrong way, its typically curtains for you. He places loyalty to him and the team above all else. He didn't feel Cooper was loyal enough with his stance on the certain medical thingy. I offer no opinion on that other than Jerry felt one way, Cooper felt differently and Jerry took that as lack of loyalty to the franchise - right or wrong, at this point it's all moot.

Throw in the fact they'd have to take like $22 million cap hit for him to keep him as opposed to saving like $14 million or whatever it was in cap space........... it was a no brainer move from Jerry's perspective.

If you can speak to the dead, do they have foreknowledge of sporting event results? I'd like to get a few bets in this weekend.
They do, but their internet connection is too slow and I don't get the results in time...or maybe it's my internet connection. I should probably look into that.

There are 12 receivers making more than Amari Cooper. He was getting paid a lot but not completely out of whack like Zeke.

I think the problem with Cooper is he can be elite for one game and disappear the next. He doesn't seem to have much drive on the field either. But, there was no need to trade him for just a 5th. His contract is bloated a bit but it was also made to be restructured. Since he is young there was no real risk in restructuring him to lower his CAP impact.

And let's not forget the Cowboys had several years of Cooper's record to look at when they offered him the $20 million per year.

Dallas should have put him on the block and asked for real compensation. If they got no serious offers then they should have kept him and restructured his deal and kept him one more year. It is water under the bridge at this point but IMO, another mistake by the Jones boys.

The offensive production? Dak is light years better than Rush. You saw Rush get exposed more every week. Gallup is coming off a serious injury. DS has been hurt. Washington was counted on to be dangerous threat from the slot. He hasn’t played yet. Those are the reasons why the offense has gotten off to a slow start. Cooper would have made zero difference with Rush starting. Cooper is on his third team at 28 years old. The talk has always been his conditioning was suspect and he lacks toughness. That’s why he was traded again. The return was awful but I personally was glad he was traded.

Cooper Rush was the QB for 5 of the 8 games.

that’s a fair point. However, in 2 of the games Dak played, he threw for 134 yards and 207 yards. Let’s go ahead and assume those 2 low production games were Cooper Rush fault too just for fun

and since we’re putting all the blame on Cooper Rush, last year Dak had more game with under 300 than games over 300.

10 games were under 300 and some of them were the same numbers Cooper Rush put up. 188, 238, 237, 232, 216, 211, 216, etc etc. are just some examples of his pedestrian numbers last season

Those numbers from last season look pretty Cooper Rushesque to me. Maybe the passing offense wasn’t really as explosive and high powered as some would care to remember

We don't need another WR anyway, just need more of those 2-3 TE sets and use our TE. When we do, we move the ball down the field. Moore just needs to improve his play calling and we are st!

How many $20M WRs have 7 games in a season with 5 or less targets.
Whose at fault there?
Cooper Rush had no problem finding him ON THE ROAD against Minnesota.
Even Dak was able to find him in week 1 of 2021, on the road in TB.
