Why would the NFL risk tens of billions of revenues to fix games?

If there was ever any evidence of tampering and rigging games for ratings it would be the end of the owner's cash cow.

I think the NBA official that came out and admitted to betting on games he was officiating and that he wasn’t alone should’ve shut down the NBA…but it didn’t, the league rallied to cancel him and make him disappear. The NFL officiating is so consistently bad that it’s hard to believe they are that bad at their jobs, it seems almost more plausible they are purposely putting their thumb on the scales. The deflategate incident, in my mind, told me everything I needed to know about how little the league cared about the integrity of the game. Regardless of how insignificant you might think it was to the outcome, it gave NE a competitive advantage and was clearly against the rules. NE and Brady did all they could to destroy evidence. Brady gets a few games but clearly it tells you that if you can cheat and win a ring, it’s worth it. Many other leagues would’ve made NE vacate the championship. This has happened in other sports and leagues.
In all it’s clear the league does NOT care about game integrity at all…if they did, they would definitely use their multi billions to hire a professional, full time officiating crew and punishment for cheaters would be absolute. Then combine that with all the close games and horrible calls…all the points made in the OP….it’s suspicious at best…nefarious at worst.

What seriously knocks a whole in your argument is the fact that bad calls could be close to eliminated from the sport with the use of cameras...but they leave the element of "subjective" around for the sole purpose of having an excuse.

You should have seen this ref in the Mavericks game about a week ago. The ball went out of bounds off a player right in front of her...cameras showed her looking directly at the play...she called the ball out of bounds on the other team. This was not some hard to see call...it was extremely obvious. And...this was at the end of a game in which there were a lot of questionable calls against the Mavericks. It was pretty obvious the refs were up to something. They didnt want the Mavs to win or were protecting a betting line.

No one is going to stop watching the sport...they have "fans" cornered. Who has the money to fight these billionaires in court to prove they are crooked?

My question is...why do the players allow it? Its because its the Universe. United. Everyone is just an agent of the illusion.

Actually there was a case thrown out based upon the fact that The NFL is Legally categorized as ENTERTAINMENT . . . But you are entitled to believe whatever you wish
I’d like to see the link. I’m certainly not aware of any criminal investigation.

With billions of dollars on the line in gambling alone which is legal in most states now Congressional oversight committee would get involved if they felt there was officiating intent on throwing games regardless if the NFL is an entertainment entity.

The NFL antitrust status could be compromised allowing the monopoly they have on network television and tax exempt status .

I’m not sure why fans think the games are intended to be perfect. I recall when we didnt have Instant Replay.

Why don’t they use cameras to call balls and strikes in baseball.

Officials are just there to try and moderate the more obvious calls . And with a minimal amount of officials they aren’t going to see everything .

Nothing would kill the NFL faster than evidence that they were fixing games. I have yet to meet a fan who didn't complain about the officiating. Fans who root for many different teams. Is the officiating perfect? No, it blows, but the good teams find a way to overcome bad calls and win games.

Exactly...all they have to do is change their rules..salary cap was a great great equalizer.
The draft order. And changing rules to get more scoring and easier passing game.

Too many people involved for it to be rigged. Is a game here or there may get rigged. But not to this level OP conspiracy theory wants to indicate. Like you said too much money involved and they are already successful so why risk it

Right . And a bad call at the end of the game could cost a team.

Just like a ball being called as a strike in baseball. Or a bad foul in basketball.

My advice , don’t place yourself in position for a bad call to change the outcome .

It already slows the game down too much as it reviewing too much already. Games aren’t intended to be perfect. It’s mostly sour grapes from fans on the short end of the stick .

Yep

Last thing NFL needs is for Congressional oversight committee to get involved if there was any doubt about the integrity of the game . It could cost them their Anti-Trust status which allows their monopoly on TV rights and tax exempt status.

Trillion dollar industry cant afford more refs? Seems suspicious...almost like they want to keep the party small and to use subjectivity as an excuse.

Sorry, this way of thinking is absolute GARBAGE.

You think owners would risk prison and risk their gae to fix them in any way at all? If word got out, just 1 gae was fixed and a ref had proof that he was told by an owner to keep a game close, the NFL would absolutely collapse. The golden goose would be done and the NFL wouls cease to own this country.

Sorry but you need to take off that tin foil hat.

I wholeheartedly disagree with the sentiment of this note. I’ve been hearing variations of this NFL conspiracy theories for the 40 years I have been watching the NFL and have never seen any evidence of this kind of top level conspiracy to manipulate games, outcomes, etc.

I’m not so close minded to think it’s impossible, however, very much in the camp of “prove it”…

in my experience people I know who believe the NFL is rigged believe most other aspects of life are “rigged” as well….

Human beings conspire. It's what they do.
It's nothing more and nothing less than insiders using their inside information and ability to act on that information to benefit themselves.
If you're expecting memos "cheat this way", you're not going to find them. It's trivial to create a league of crooked refs. You can say absolutely nothing to anyone. Just reward the right kind of crooked calls, and punish the failure to make them. People get the message and act accordingly, or they're weeded from the ranks.
That's how bureaucratic conspiracies work. Hints and rumors, and those who don't play ball don't get ahead.
Human resources is policy.
People who don't get this really are clueless about the basic operation of large organizations.

The most important aspect and vital commodity for this multi billion dollar industry is Integrity of the game.

This notion by some fans that controversial calls by officiating that there’s some type of organized collusion underway with officials throwing the games is totally unfounded.

Not one single case is the NFL has ever disclosed an organized illegal activity to throw games . Not one single investigation. Not one whistleblower .

Amazing with instant access we have in todays media tech business. It has to be the greatest coverup in America sports history over 100 years now. Or just some sour grape fans frustrated with poor and inconsistent officiating.

yep, same as JFK conspiracy theorists. No way in hell would the old guys that would have been involved with such a conspiracy would all have gone to their graves keeping the greatest conspiracy the world has ever know quiet.

Even Deep Throat had to let the world know who he was, even if after death.

NO WAY would such a conspiracy to fix games be able to have been kept quiet.
If anything, those 42 million viewers that watched the last Cowboys game would be reason to ensure they win a sb, and often. Imagine the ratings and money they would be making if the Cowboys won a SB every 4 years.

The Cowboys being bad actually is bad for the business of the NFL.

He made himself disappear with the help of the FBI.

“During his sentencing, word leaked out that Donaghy informed the FBI that the NBA routinely instructed its referees to manipulate the outcomes of key games.”
https://syndication.bleacherreport....ghy-beaten-in-prison-by-mafia-member.amp.html

for the NFL, doesn’t have to be a grand conspiracy where hundreds are in on it….only needs to be a few officials and key folks, all of which would have multi million dollar reasons to never tell anyone…and possibly a mafia enforcer. And doesn’t have to be a fix for entire games, just a few calls here and there to keep games close. Not sayin…just sayin….
