Kelvin Joseph

Talent wise, Joseph could have been a 1st round pick. Based on projected skill set, he is someone that could have gone between picks 20-32 of he had gotten more playing time at LSU

After showing alot promise in a very small sample size as a rookie, Joseph had a horrible offseason that really made the pick questionable. Since then he has fallen behind 2022 5th round pick Daron Bland, and hasnt looked any where near what he did in his two 2021 starts when he has gotten defensive reps. However, he has been a ST ace

Josh Ball

Picked at the very end of the 4th in 2021, without a DV arrest I think he probably would have been a 3rd rounder. He has some LT traits, but mostly projected as somewhere between Doug Free and Marc Colombo if he hit. Doug Free may actually be a good comp as to what you hoped Ball turned into

After red shirting his rookie year on IR, Ball looked completely lost in preseason. Next year he may have an uphill climb to make the roster. Right now he is that guy you hope you never have to play in a real game

Sam Williams

Williams likely would have been a first rounder if not for a DV charge. He was a better and more polished prospect than Boye Mafe who was picked at 40. I think KC takes him ahead of Karlaftis if there weren't concerns

So far on the field he has been as advertised. Snaps are hard to come by because we have 3 edge rushers on pace for 10 sacks, and another on pace for 8. However when he plays, he really jumps out at you. So far he has 3 sacks and 7 TFL's in 171 defensive snaps.

Peyton Hendershot

Productive Big 10 TE. An intriguing prospect that could have possibly gone in the 4th or 5th if not for a DV charge. 4th is probably ambitious as he wasnt as sound a prospect as Likely or Okonkwo who went at the tail end of the 4th. But upside wise, I think he was up with that deep 4th round class

Hendershot become a preseason darling and not only earned himself a roster spot, but a role as well. He teamed with fellow rookie Jake Ferguson to make the TE position effective with Shultz either out or limited. It looks as if he will have a steady role in the Cowboys offense beyond 2022

Good post.
I am assuming this is for current players as the recently departed Trysten Hill did not meet 2nd rd draft pick production while also having early maturity issues but I think he had matured a little before being cut.

A little.

Joseph is kind of an enigma for me right now. He looked very good when he played last year. Granted it is a small sample size. You have to think the shooting really got to him
I just think he's more of a man guy than a zone guy. He just plays his coverages too deep. Like he's scared of getting beat deep. More playing time should help him build his confidence.

I think that's really all I that kid needs .. I don't know why he worries about getting beat deep as fast as he is. There aren't 5 receivers in the league faster than him. As soon as he figures that out he can focus on just playing football instead of being in his own head.

All have shown that they will be here next year as well. Way too early to make a decision on Joseph imo.

Not sure they get bad character credit for signing a guy as an udfra

Im not giving "credit", Im giving an assessment at how these moves are working.

Did yoy miss where I didnt give a very positive opinion of Joseph or Ball

How'd Trysten Hill work out?
Im put him in a completely different category. Not only did he have character issues, he was also a reach. He wasnt a 2nd round caliber prospect even if was a hard charger.

These guys all probably would have went earlier if they weren't domestic violence enthusiasts (well 3 out of 4). Its early, but it looks pretty mixed. Joseph and Ball are practically useless, but Williams and Hendershot are outperforming their draft position (or in Hendershot's case, the lack of) Granted Hendershot would probably max out as a league average starter or productive #2 (think Cameron Brate). But thats pretty good for a UDFA

The take away could be that if you going to gamble on off field concerns, you better make sure the guy actually cares about football. Now if you wanted tk broaden it to include Hill, he would fit quite nicely in that conclusion

you are grading the poor character players. Some poor some not poor. I’m just saying , they don’t deserve credit for signing a guy w character issues as an udrfa..but yes, he’s doing well

You forgot about Micah. Had issues coming out of Penn State with hazing allegations. Possibly slid down to us because of that. Now the best defender in the NFL.

I think you are misinterpreting something, and Im not sure what. Im not accessing the Cowboys as an organization with the picks, UDFA signings. Im accessing how they working out. Even bringing a UDFA with DV charge carries risk.
