Who knew former Cowboys CB Chavarius Ward would be a btter CB than Awuzie ..and even Anthony Brown ?

We were desperate for decent CB play. Ward was a standout throughout camp .... and then they trade him. It's not so much what you projected him to be but more that you felt that trading a player who earned a job at a premium position for a reserve lineman was a good idea. I remember being stunned when the trade went down. But hey, you can't be crappy for over a quarter century without making some bad decisions.

White looked like a disaster in multiple preseason games.

When are people going to realize a QB playing mostly with guys who are getting cut or deep on the roster is no way to evaluate the QB?

Always frustrates me that QBs are judged when they're in a preseason game with only camp bodies.

How do evaluate that? Obviously, you can't.

NFL talent evaluation is truly guesswork.

Our former 2018 fifth round pick started today for the New York Jets and his numbers were 22-28-315-3TD-0INT.

In 2018 the Cowboys kept two quarterbacks as Dak Prescott started and played every down that season.

The quarterback they decided to keep was Cooper Rush, no argument there. However, they found nothing in Mike White that made them decide to keep both White and Rush.

The Cowboys cut Cooper rush before the season and nobody wanted him, which allowed him to be on the practice squad, available to activate if needed.

White ended up on the Jets practice squad and, due to injuries to the other QB's he actually started a game in 2021 against the Bengals, the eventual conference champion.

White threw for over 400 yards in his first start and the Jets upset the Bengals.

I think this is a classic example of excellent evaluation by the scouts and poor evaluation by the coaches.

It's not the first time in Cowboys history, I'm thinking of posting a list of players that the Cowboys cut only to have really good careers.

It would include guys like 1983 second round pick LB Mike Walter, 1978 second round pick RB Todd Christiensen, 1992 second round draft pick Jimmy Smith, 1977 tenth round pick, QB Steve Deberg, and 1970 third round pick LB Steve Kiner. There are a lot of interesting stories there.
Yep that one looks like a GM Jerry special. Absolutely terrible.

Mike White wasn't allowed to develop with an OL that didn't favor an inexperienced rookie to blossom well. He got rattled under far too many passing attempts with heavy pressure. In time, he ended up out of favor with a coaching staff that wasn't especially adept in talent evaluation.

Most QBs aren't nearly as blessed with Romo's unique talent for avoiding hard and fast pass rushes like he could. Mike White fell into that category. He was a drop back type who wasn't able to cope with the steady pressures he had to deal with. He often got rattled and, eventually, appeared to lose confidence in himself and his abilities to perform as needed. The coaching staff ultimately lost confidence in him, as well.

Over time, the offensive coaches lost patience and decided to move on. On other teams with better protection, he slowly began to blossom into what he is today. Today, we look back and wish our coaching staff had been more patient and willing to upgrade an OL with less than sufficient pass protection. Our OL back then just didn't suit a drop back type of QB -- especially a green one who needed good protection to perform capably.

Hopefully he does not become a Mark Brunell, that would hurt.

Remind me why the jets are dead set on keeping on the bench for other QBS? same reason we did NOT cut Rush because fans hated Rush, fans did not like White said he was trash, jag etc etc should we go back and find posts??

.. white was very inaccurate and threw ton of INTS. He literally looked a lot like Ben Denucci at times when under pressure. Had some flashes but..

same reason Geno smith took decade to finally arrive LOL

some Players need time to develop.

If hes so good why didn't the jets make him their starter immediately. why reach for Wilson in the top 5 LOL there's your answer

player wasnt ready for starting duty's and still might not be., rush played well in stretches under perfect conditions but started to break down . some payers are career backups like Colt Mccoy comes to mind. Great backup, not great starter.

How could Mike White's interim or tentative quarterbacking success with the Jets no less, be predicted? This is a stunning hindsight post. Why did we (and 30 other teams) not draft 5th round pick, Tom Brady? Good grief man, shut off your Cowboys grudge detector. Any complaints possibly, of what your life was like when you were a fetus?

Yes, I know what happened. Problem is, he was atrociously good today.

Romo didn't throw his first official NFL pass until his fourth season. I wonder what it was that made them feel White wasn't worth the same development.

Because, obviously whatever it was, they were wrong.
Wrong LOL you are off base , when White starts 17 games and has success, we can revisit wrong. An overreaction to HIS OWN Team since 2019 has not yet played him much. So the jets are wrong..lMAO hes not started any long stretch of games to impress the Jets , if so, why did they draft Wilson??

overreact much?

I'll bet the Jets did. They made him the starter today. They wanted him to start in favor of the 2nd overall pick in the 2021 draft, as well as the 18th overall pick in the 2008 draft. They saw something the Cowboys coaches didn't
Yup, so they waited until the 11th game of the season to prove themselves right!!!

Because QBs drafted that late get to practice only with players about to get cut. Preseason games are a joke and they never really get a chance. so it was a coin flip with White and Cooper... and if not for dire situation in NY, White could have gone all season and never got a chance.

There is no doubt 3-5 more guys out there that just need the chance to play with starters to show what they can do.
