I do not get the resistance to OBJ

To me it's a matter of:
  1. When will he be 100% game ready?
  2. How many years on the contract?
  3. How much?
It's not like he's going to be ready anytime real soon.

I'm not a "win-now* person. That makes for a win-never team. Jerry tried that for about 15 years after Jimmy left.
I'm not gonna eat 3 years of salary for a 30+ player coming off a serious injury.

We haven't won **** since Jimmy it's time to take a risk that has next to no downside. I still don't believe in our receivers besides Lamb, yay our number 2 showed up against a bad and injured defense/secondary.

1. That was 4 seasons ago.
2. That was 3 seasons ago.
3. It is very speculative to say OBJ was on his way to SB MVP last Feb.
4. He’s coming off his second major knee surgery in 4 years. He’s 30. He’s talented for sure but his route running skill set is nothing like Cooper. Amari was easier to mesh with because of his precise routes. He’s not as talented as OBJ but he was easier to get in tune with quickly.

At this point I believe OBJ will be a Cowboy soon. But my expectations are much lower than most. Thinking this guy is going to step on the field and light it up is crazy to me. Maybe he can have some positive impact. But having him or not having him is not that important IMO.

Honestly, IMO we would have been much better to have acquired a talented DT or LB that can help our D stop the run. I can certainly be wrong, but IMO Signing OBJ is more a PR move than an impact move.

As long as he shows up in the post season is all that matters, it will take time to acclimate, and if they do sign him and get past the divisional, it will be more then we have seen in a long time.

Next to no downside? Do you often carry a 5-gallon container of gasoline next to a fire too?

Look at it this way: What is our plan B if cee dee lamb pulls a hamstring, cracks an ankle or gets concussed right before the playoffs?

The Rams wanted him back, so recent history is good.

Dallas should be in talent acquisition business, right?

If he passes the medical and the contract is right, take the win.

Money, injury and a cancer in the locker room from what I remember when he was with the Giants. If he was that good with them, he would still be with them.

I think what most people are concerned about is the price on a luxury player with 2 major surgeries in a row when we have our own players to sign.

Personally I am good getting him or not.
If James Washington could get on the field any time soon...AND be an upgrade over Brown in 3WR sets then I'm perfectly happy NOT getting OBJ...especially if they would stick to trying to use Pollard more as a receiving option. I don't understand this about Kellen Moore.

That said...with OBJ, as with Cooper last year, you simply wouldn't be able to double out all three WRs. Something is gonna break even if you just use him as a decoy on some plays.

You are correct. We simply don't know what his knee looks like after two surgeries in 2 or 3 years. This may all be a moot point under medical examination.

Don't want him for more than the remainder of THIS season. If he performs well .. which is totally in doubt or at least a significant unknown, then discuss next year .. next year.

Its not my $, and if he can help us in Dec and the playoffs great. I just don't know if its realistic to expect him to be worth a damn this year or not. Gallup had the same surgery and look how long its taken him to get back to playing like himself. OBJ still isn't playing yet, and its his 2nd surgery on that same knee. Theres only 6 games left before the playoffs now. I just don't see the sense of getting rid of Cooper because of his big contract, not acquiring Cooks because of his, just to give the same money to a guy who is a huge question mark.
This. It's an indictment of the off-season planning, although we still have not seen Washington in this offense. Regardless, the brass should've known that the receiver corp might struggle. It's happened twice before when they jettisoned the WR1 (Owens and Bryant).

Again...you are back to this: Why let Cooper go and now be reduced to going after long term deals with Cooks and Beckham Jr? If he checks out medically I'm in but there are a lot of worries with a long term deal. Not sure the Cowboys will pull this off. Jerry certainly wants him but he's not the sole voice in the room anymore. If we could just see what Washington looks like in the offense.

Stephen Jones might find a way to discourage O'Dell from coming to Dallas. I'm just saying.

Exactly.

For as much as medical technology has advanced still today, not one NBA player who tore an ACL has ever come back to being an All-Star if they were one pre-injury.

You simply cannot give a multi-year contract to an aging player coming off those injuries. It would have to be a reasonable one-year deal and load the following year up with incentives. It's the only way to ever consider it.

that's kind of a strange qualifier. also basketball is 82 games and far more demanding

i don't necessarily disagree with you, but outside of freelancing in cleveland odell has always been a high level route runner

It is understandable you have concerns about OBJ's health and durability. But he will have to pass our medical staff football specific physical including post injury healing recovery to date.

They didn't see Jaylon's regression coming.

1) He was good with the Giants and Eli.

2) Baker was clearly the issue in Cleveland.

3) With the Rams, stafford and him were a TD combo. He was on his way to the Super Bowl MVP (just end of last season) until he hurt his kneee and then Cooper Kupp stepped up.

4) Amari came here with no training camp and Dak and him lit it up. Simply put, Dak can produce with a new wr quickly.

If he passes the physical, enjoy!
The Giants were so fed up with him that they intentionally sent him to Cleveland to try to ruin his career. He has had two ACL surgeries. Weeks from signing from millions he can't manage to not get kicked off a plane. He's a mercenary at this point like Deion was, but there was never any doubt Deion was going to perform on the field, not be a distraction, and be healthy enough to play.

When they are right no one remembers, when they are wrong no one forgets.

I don't think the medical staff stated that Jaylon was healed to the absolute or made a specific prediction on how long Jaylon would be available to play. He recovered well enough to play football going through the tests and drills.
Ironically Jaylon played noticeably well for the Giants against us. Maybe there is a lingering mental as well as physical aspect that he always will have to deal with.

The more I listen to players who had the same injuries, the more I think he's fool's gold. If he was truly ready to go, this wouldn't take so long.

Realistically, he probably just needs to sit out all year and be fully healthy for next season.

WRs aren’t the key to winning SBs. If we were adding a monster DT I would be much more interested. Adding a 30 yr old WR with 2 ACL surgeries in 3 yrs on the same knee? Not going to be “the difference” that leads to a championship.
