I have lived in Florida all my life, but when I was a kid the first game I ever saw was opening day September 12th 1976 when Rodger lit the Eagles up in a 27 to 7 blow out. He caught my interest and became my hero. I have been a diehard fan ever since. Even through the horrible 1-15 and the 5-11 seasons. My wife is a Bucs fan so this year should be fun when Tampa comes to Dallas.

I think I was the original bandwagon jumper. LOL Growing up in Iowa without a "hometown" team we had regional choices of the Vikings, Bears, Packers, Chiefs and uggghhh the Cardinals. I was a Chiefs fan at the age of 4, or so I thought, because I had gotten a Chiefs helmet and uniform for my birthday.

That all changed in 1972 after watching the SuperBowl win over the Dolphins. I remember two things about that game: 1) the zigzag sack of Griese by Lilly and 2) the play of Roger Staubach. I was enamored with his play and he instantly became one of my heroes. To this day Staubach and Landry remain my childhood heroes.

I inherited the passion from my older brothers. The team was handed down like a pair of old jeans.

For me I am a Cowboys fan because of my Grandmother. She was the one who got me started in rooting for the Cowboys. My story is not very interesting as I started watching them because of her. Her story is a little more interesting.

One day I asked her, how she became a Cowboys fan. She told me it all started back when Roger Staubach was in college at Navy. She started watching him in college and liked him then. She said, "I watched him play in college and I said if he would run right, he would be a good NFL QB." So when Roger went to Dallas in 69, my grandmother started watching the Cowboys. Ever since then she has always payed attention to the Cowboys QB. So thanks to Roger, I am a Cowboys fan. Oh and She likes Romo, but said he needs to quit being so Hollywood!. LOL

I love my Grandma!
Because anything else would be unexceptable.

Grew up in East Texas and my Father would have disowned me had I pulled for anyone else.

We moved to Hattiesburg, MS when I was in grade school and the Saints are close here... but with my whole family being Cowboy fans and all my relatives being Cowboy fans, I had little choice but to follow family tradition.

Grew up in AZ before the Cardinals came to town. Loved playing Cowboys and Indians (srsly). Nobody in my family followed football, but I started watching so young, I followed the Broncos for half a year thinking they were the Cowboys because of the D and the horse on their helmet at the time.

I finally caught a Cowboys/Broncos game on tv and was completely confused. My older sister convinced me I'd been rooting for the wrong team for the right reason and I had a decision to make on the spot. Switched alliegances in the middle of a series and never gave it a second thought.

Born in Dallas, watched them from the days of the Cotton Bowl and the practice field on Forest Lane, and the team that "couldn't win a championship". How time flies...

I have a chapter in my book about that as far as the appeal of the team. I honestly do not know anyone who played Vikings, Giants (Titans), Priests (Saints), Miners (49ers), or Pirates (Buccaneers and Raiders) except maybe when you had a plastic toy sword, and that wasn't as much fun as cap guns and horses. Many of us probably played soldiers (Patriots) but even that isn't as captivating. Who relates the Patriots to soldiers automatically?

Born in Washington D.C.... raised in Silver Spring, MD (right outside of DC).. and son of a Skins season ticket holder (My Dad).

Contrary to popular belief, I didn't become a fan of the Cowboys simply to rebel or to be different. I truly believe there are "Cowboy People" "Skins People" and so on. I was destined to be a Cowboys fan and could NEVER be a fan of the skins or any other team. The skins just don't make sense to me in terms of being a fan. I couldn't get with them or what they were about. In the power struggle that is the Dallas/Wash rivalry, I just loved the Cowboys side. Although I was merely 6 when I became a fan, my dedication and undying support started early and never changed.

I think I just had my own mind. It was the teams image and swagger. Tom Landry, Tony Dorsett (my favorite and the coolest football player ever as a kid), Ron Springs, Everson Walls, "Thrill" Hill, Pearson, Doug Cosby, Too Tall and so on etc.. the metalic silver and blue, the star.. Really a no brainer! :)

I'm with you about their being "Skins people" (my father, l'il bro #2, & l'il sis) & "Cowboys people" (myself, l'il bro #1, & now my son) and like you I've NEVER been a fan of the Black, Maroon, and Canary Yellow (I'm born & bred in DC also)! The reason I became a 'Boys fan was because of S/B XII. It was my first time watching a football game and I became enamored by the Star (and the stars who wore it)! Just the swagger and star power that Dallas displayed drew me in like a moth to the flame! I've been a Defender of the Star ever since...
