Well, here's one way we could have solved the problem at DE (I assume he's not being traded to play the nose position that he refused to play in DC). Very surprising deal!

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/28/Commanders-trade-albert-haynesworth-to-patriots/

Mike Shanahan got the deal he wants, and now Albert Haynesworth is Bill Belichick’s problem.

In a blockbuster trade for a player who’s capable of being one of the best defensive linemen of the league — or one of the biggest headaches in the league — the Washington Commanders have traded Haynesworth to the New England Patriots, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The compensation for the former NFL Defensive Player of the Year is a fifth-round pick in 2013.

Haynesworth, who will have to pass his physical for the trade to become official, is scheduled to make $5 million this season.

If suddenly lightening was caught in a bottle, and the Patriots signed Asomugha as well, katie bar the door...as this was a stroke of potential brilliance at practicly no cost for a no nonsense head coach.

But baggage storage was left in Washington...:)

I guess the Pats are banking that in the right environment that Haynesworth will elevate his play.

We'll see . . . . Don't know if his "heart is in the work" anymore as the saying goes . . . .

This is a Randy Moss type of risk that Bill has done before. If it works, Bill will look like a 'genius', if it doesn't Bill will just cut him. With him maybe playing DE, it could work with him not playing very many plays at first til he gets in shape.

Pats have picks for days, no lost. To win, you gotta take chances, guess we will have to wait and see if this one works for them.

The Pats aren't giving up anything of value to get a potential difference maker in2011. A fifth round pick in 2013? That's hardly any value to Washington, and they have to go out and find another defensive tackle/end.

For a 5th rounder. Per Adam S.

Far and away the worst Free Agent signing ever. Ever. It doesn't even compare. It makes the Adam Archuleta signing seem frugal!

He'll become a hall of famer now.

Good forecast, here, Sir. He probably wishes to shut up an unhumbled Warren Sapp.:D

Gosh the skins are just getting fleeced everywhere they go. I am not sure if hanesworth will work out in NE. I wouldn't of surrendered a 5th round for him.

They didn't get fleeced except for what they paid for the players. Both players and guys they made mistakes on and no longer wanted.

At least they got draft picks. We didn't get a thing for the three starters we just cut, and none of them were considered a problem child and none of them were benched for poor play except maybe Davis for part of a game.

I'd have been estatic to be sitting with a couple of 5th and 6th rounders for them right now, even in 2013.

The PAts really put a lot of faith in their system.

As they should. I wish we'd give up a 5th for Haynesworth. Low risk trade. Then again, his contract won't have to be reworked, right?

Does anyone know how many 5th round draft picks the Pat's have in 2013? They stock pile those...could be a better deal (less risky) if they have multiple picks.

Not much of a risk there; but I think that they will find out that he just does not care anymore.

So loving Shanny and Allen right now...

And Fatty McFatFat may play to his potential in NE. It's happened before. However, he wasn't going to here. Very good move to cut our losses and move on. The Skins players were getting sick of the drama (ref. Orakpo's quote) and they got a bit back for him.

Now if Shanahan can turn the two McNabb 6th's into the next Terrell Davis and Tom Brady, I think I'll be satisfied :)

He didn't wanna play in a 3-4 so now they're gonna make him play in a two gap 3-4? Which is even worse than what Washington was playing.

On paper it looks good (Haynesworth and Wilfork side by side) but I don't think this will end well, unless Bill is thinking of moving to a 4-3. That may actually be the case because he hasn't had the OLBs for the 3-4 in a while now.
