So last night, with the game well in hand, Sean Payton kept having Drew Brees throw the ball. He clearly wanted him to get the record. He didn't try to run out the clock and preserve the win. He ran up the score.

Had it been Garrett and Romo there'd be 10 threads about it by now.

If the Saints and Drew Brees were going for the record books against us, in the same situation as last night, would you be pissed?

Up BIG, still airing it out at the end of the game.

Just curious to see the responses.

If we already were in the playoffs and going for a major record, I doubt many would be complaining.

Thats a record that could stand for a long time and could mean a great deal for Brees and his career after football. If Payton had thoughts of sitting some starters in week 17 and brees is one of them, then I have no issue at all in going after the record. The Falcons still have a defense on the field whose job is to stop him.

If he sits Brees, Tom Brady is only 190 yards behind him for the record.

Fine by me, Marino's kind of a tool anyway.
He's the reason Ray Finkle missed that kick

If I was a HC and had a player on the verge of getting a major record, I would do what I could to see that he gets that record. I would want my players to know that while these records matter to them as their HC it matters to me as well. I don't worry how the other team feels

Eh. I'm not surprised.

Very much reminds me of how the Patriots kept allowing Brady to sling the rock all over the field in 07 when they'd be up huge in games.

I guess for Brees sake he better hope the 2012 season doesn't start the same way for him that the 2008 season did for Tom Brady.

Exactly. I don't see a the problem here. Now, throwing the ball when you are up 27-3 when you come back from halftime is DUMB and it ended up costing us the game. Or not throwing the ball(to pick up the first down) with 3 minutes to go and you have Brady waiting to come in and crush you is also DUMB. JG has been learning on the job all year, I think that is pretty obvious. Well, maybe not to the worlds biggest homer.

Pretty sure if we were 12-3 like Payton and Brees there'd be 10 threads about that by now...

I don't know if it was dumb, you can't stop playing. You have to expect player to go out and execute. Could we have thrown it a bit less sure but any play be it run or pass you have to trust that your players will execute be it the QB making the correct throws or the RB hanging on to the ball as defenders try to rip the ball from him.

In the end Dallas lost and as the HC it falls to him.

I thought that going for the record was fine, as it was for the home crowd as much as it was for Brees. They didn't need the score, but when you need seven yards form around the ten... it happens.

I am sure the Falcons understood the why of it. Not so much to run up the score as to secure the record on the national stage, in front of the home crowd.

I would support it if it had been Garrett and a Cowboy player too. Not sure that your assumption is right, but I don't doubt there would have been a thread or two. If Brees had been injured and lost for the playoffs during the attempt.... it would have been open season in New Orleans.

Yup. Put Romo on the Aints and I have no doubt he breaks Marino's record as well.

You're reaching on this one. If Romo was in he same situation, there would be no issues.
