Our oline is better than we think.

I'm sure others have drawn this conclusion but no one has posted. Here is my thought: We played against the absolute best d-line in the league and ran all over them and gave up two sacks. With our center going down on the first series and the players never playing together.Fast forward 2-3 weeks, against lesser competition and we may be looking at a good offensive line for the first time in years.

I think it takes more than 1 game, good or bad, to see what exactly we're going to have with this group.

It doesn't look like the guards are going to be some crazy weakness that we can't overcome though.

We shall see. I think they'll be good in spots, but I really don't think they'll be "good" down the stretch. If we had a less mobile QB, Wednesday would have been a blood bath. Going to "potential bloodbath" to just "steady" would be acceptable in my eyes, I don't actually expect them to be good though.

I can't say I was thrilled with the play, I saw a lot of mistakes from the guys up front. I think Callahan has a lot of work to do to bring this group together as a unit. Wed game was pretty much the 1st time this group as a whole worked together and my hope if as they learn and adjust to each other they will become a unit and will play better.

It's hard to say after one game but if Romo wasn't Romo, he'd have been sacked probably 10 times behind them. That also doesn't count their constant penalties.

Romo was running for his life. But that's probably the best dline in football.

I thought we did a good job of making adjustments, they didn't look good at the start of the game but once we got a feel for what they where doing on D Romo took over. We should be glad Romo is as good as he is with his pre snap reads

But...I keep hearing on here that he needs to stop doing that because he's taking too long. :D

I think Romo was just expecting them to suck so he was ready when free guys suddenly came at him untouched.

Once again, Romo made our OL "appear" OK. If that would have been Eli behind our line I would have expected 10 sacks. Romo is a blessing and a curse at the same time. The OL takes no heat what so ever because of Romo's escapability, so we don't spend resources to upgtrade it like we should. Keeping Romo upright, and in the pocket can win us 4-5 more games, IMO.

While I agree with most of this, particularly keeping him upright, I don't think keeping Romo in the pocket is necessarily a good idea. That dynamic keeps other teams defenses on their heels, IMO. He's outstanding outside of the pocket.

...but yeah, I think Romo's escapability definitely takes a load of responsibility off of the OL.

tomson75 sometimes I go overboard in my posts. Somehow I think Jerry Jones might be reading my post and it may have an affect on him. :)

Actually left out for part of the reason for the poor OL play was:
1) Smith playing LT for first tme.
2) Bern missed much of TC
3) Livings missed almost all of TC
4) Free returning to RT position & played poorly
5) already cited is Costa's injury after only 3 plays
6) New center (can't even remember his name) just arrived about 5 days before game/never got snaps with first teamers in practices.
7) Miracle these 5 players even know each other's name--must have been the uniform & numbering system they recognized.

Point is this was a makeshift unit and they played like it. Guiding truth in NFL is that an OL must have continuity. Only continuity was they were all Cowboys & 3 of them new to the team.

I'm hoping these 5 OL vet players have gotten rid of opening day butterflies & that Callahan (will have his hands full) can address their individual problems so they ready to play against 'hawks. Believe Bern, Livings & new center will come around but remain concerned about Smith & Free. Frankly we lucky to have won the gam due to bad OL play. Thank God Romo is a miracle worker & that we have 3 good WRs like Miles, Bryant & Ogletree. Wonder whose #4 behind Ogletree if 1 of them goes down.

After watching Green Bay and Pittsburgh, I started to feel a lot better about our offensive line situation. Holy cow their lines were bad.

There are no perfect teams in the NFL.

Thats why I don't understand discussions on here during the offseason.

OH NO! We don't have a #3 WR. We're doomed!

As long as you have good QB play you're going to be in every game.

Romo makes our OL look much better that it really is, and it didn't look all that great. Stop kidding yourself, the OL is going to be an issue this year.

Exactly. Romo was running for his life almost every snap. The oline isn't good because the QB can overcome their crappiness.

If we can get Doug Free's issues squared away then we may end up being solid.

I expect Cook to be much better this week.

Let's not kid ourselves, if Romo wasnt as mobile as he is we would have gotten trucked by NY. Of his five biggest completions (the TDs, the deep ball to Bryant and the final first down) three of them happened only because Romo avoided early pressure and made a play. Murray's two biggest runs were both due to nothing but his effort.

Our offensive line is exactly what we thoughtnit was and will be our biggest weakness all year. Accept it, move on and hope Romo is just that good.
