I disagree with the less opportunities for sacks back in the 80s. It should be noticed that pro style offenses were more common back then, meaning more straight dropbacks. Mostly of the 5-7 step variety. Look for older games on Youtube of TYT and just look how much longer it took for the ball to get out. Now, most offenses are variations of either the West Coast or Spread philosophy passing. Lots of shotgun and lots of 3-5 step drops.

Very true. Not to mention that the Giants' opponents actually ran MORE pass plays during the first seven years listed in the original post (Taylor's third through ninth seasons) than our opponents had during Ware's first seven seasons. It's close, but the Giants' opponents ran 4,069 pass plays to our opponents' 4,047.

And what makes you think it will be so simple to replace Spencer thru the draft with another OLB who will be able to pick up about 8 to 10 or more sacks opposite Ware. Sounds like a good idea but it's even more difficult then picking a SB winning QB in the draft. After all, Wade thought Spencer would be the guy to do that job opposite Ware & it hasn't worked out has it--at least, not in sacks. Now the Giants seem to have the ability to draft good sacking DL players, but they have a real GM.

C&L has thin skin.

Sad really, especially when you are a front-runner fan.

Clearly a Yankees fan too. So suspect.

Says the guy who's also a Lakers fan. It's not about having thin skin it's about not liking the fact that people who dont even know me personally are judging me. This is a free country so you should root for whoever the **** you want. The ignorance on this board is incredible and very, very disturbing.

No one said you cant root for any team, but to be a fan of the most popular franchise in each sport is just ridiculous. Can't deny it either.

But I am certainly not a Yankees fan, and not a Cowboys fan either.

It's thin skin and the fact that you are also a Yankees fan.

I know a few things about you...lest you forget how much personal information you post here for no reason. Thus you present yourself to be judged. Dwell on that one for a minute.

Anyway...Ware has a way to go to be considered the best ever...I am sure even guys like Hostile and silverbear would tell you that. One of the best, sure, I'm there with you, the best...nope, not yet anyway.

LT was the most feared defensive player in the game during his prime. Ware is respected, not feared.

I can understand being a fan of one team not in your local area then a fan of teams in your local area, makes perfect sense. I grew up in Kansas, but I am a Cowboys fan, I like to say there are parts of Kansas closer to Dallas than parts of Texas, but the real reason I am a Cowboys fan is because my grandmother is a fan and I spent a lot of time with her growing up. I wanted to be like her. She became a fan because she watched Roger Staubach at Navy and liked him, then when he went to Dallas she became a Dallas fan. But when you are a fan of the "top" teams of their respective sport that is suspect. Hell, I root for the Celtics in Basketball, but I am not a basketball fan, the only reason I root for them is because of Paul Pierce, a University of Kansas star, I cheer for Mario Chalmers of the Heat, University of Kansas.

But at least you guys are not like guy I went to high school with, he was a true frontrunner. He would pick a team while they were good and cheer them on, then when they sucked he would pick the top team. He was a bears fan/49ers fan/Giants fan/Cowboys fan, etc

Cheer for who you want it's a free country, but when you pull a Lebron James, people are going to talk about you since most folks are fans of their local teams.

Ware needs about 5 years averaging 15 sacks to become #3, then he will be within striking distance. He could do it in two more. He would likely need at least 7 more years total to be the best. Its possible, but I don't know about probable. #3 Is doable for sure! As far as people fearing him, does any NFL player strike fear like the older guys? I don't think that same fear is there for anyone, not just ware. The best you can hope for is for teams to game plan against you.

And with that said sacase, it's unlikely since he is indeed gameplanned for.

Ware doesn't have the amped (coked-up) tenacity that LT had...it was like Ray Lewis in his prime, or Urlacher in his prime to bring up recent players that were feared. Don't get me wrong I think Ware is among the top to ever have the skills, but LT was a better overall defender...he was all over the field and his motor was non-stop.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Taylor is the one who made defenses like they are today. He changed the game. Ware could be top 5 when he retires, but he will never be LT.

I don't know about the perception changing. I think LT will always be that guy, no matter the numbers Ware gets.

He's 58.5 behind third place all-time, so he needs to average about 12 for the next five years (including this one). If he gets to third overall, he'll be the all-time leader for linebackers.

Just because...Do you think that would make him a better player than LT ?

I still don't. While you think about it can you compare all of their respective D stats ?

Again, I think Ware is a great player...all-time great...but not better than LT.

It is classic groupthink mentality that feeds ignorance. Just ignore the stupidity and judging attitudes, it usually stems from personal insecurities and inadequacies that the group try to project on you.

So I guess its safe to assume that there are some people on this board that would call me a bandwagon, front-runner fan b/c I like the Cowboys, Yankees and Celtics. And if you are one of those people, I just want to ask you if I was a frontrunner fan in '89 when the cowboys went 1-15 or from 89-93 when the Yankees never broke .500 or perhaps the 22 frigging years the Celtics went between championships? I have paid my dues over the years and my loyalty has never wavered and you know what that makes me? A true fan.

An interesting stat between Ware and LT is turnovers.

LT had 9 INTs in his career while Ware only has 1.

But, LT only forced 3 fumbles in his career, all coming in his final season. Ware already has 27 :laugh2:

I had to read that stat 100 times to get it.

I'm not judging at all, just wondering. If he wants to root for all those teams that's perfectly fine, I just didn't want to jump to conclusions yet.

what's the big deal, it's not like the Cowboys and Yankees have been dominant as of late.
