Ë“Josh will meet them at the airport,” Jones said on his radio show on KRLD-FM Tuesday morning. “She wanted Josh Brent to ride with them to the memorial service and sit with them during the service. They were best friends and teammates in college. Jerry was living with Josh…because of Josh’s generosity. They were on the way to the house when the accident happened. *She wanted to be right with josh. She wanted to express in every way she could how much they loved him and thought of him. She wanted him included with the family.”

I was driving to work today and some guy was on a radio rant about how anyone could ever feel compassion for Brent.

So often when people take such a hard line on a topic like this, it takes something later happening to them or one of theirs before they can actually see what it's like to walk in those shoes. For ever reason--call it kharma or whatever--something almost always DOES happen to them.

The majority of the grief must go toward Brown and his family. But in so many ways, Brent WAS family to Brown. It's just heart-breaking stuff all-around.
People make mistakes or bad decisions every day and live to tell about it--but this one was maximum penalty in so many ways.

I can't tell you how badly I feel for Josh Brent right now. I am good with words and I don't have the ability to express the thoughts. I am so glad Jerry's family and the team are not shunning him, but rather are embracing him. Today will be emotional for the whole team and it will be especially intense for him.

It's a tragic situation and I don't know enough details to give an opinion, if they feel this way I have no right to say anything one way or another.

I am though just a little surprised after watching the video of the witness describing how they had to beg Josh Brent to go pull his friend out of the car who was screaming for help.

Like I said though, tragic situation and if this gives them any closure now or in the future then it's the best thing.

Years ago I came to the conclusion that words just were not meant to express every thought, emotion or feeling. I don't know if that is the right answer or not, but for whatever reason there is mere words cannot adequately describe the human experience.

I have alot of respect for Brown's family. Forgiveness and helping Brent move towards redemption is the right thing for them to do - but the all too human tendency is to be angry and blame, which is well within their right. I don't know if I'd be able to do what they are doing.

Well put. The only thing that makes sense is that they considered Josh a brother. I know my closest friends would get the same treatment from my parents since they've known each other forever.

That doesn't make it less difficult, and I'm sure they are angry. But at some point, compassion and an understanding for grief must trump that.

Kudos. Dead on point.

Dude, not only does her story have many internal contradictions and conflicts with official police reports, but it is well known that after accidents like that, people go into shock and have no control over their actions. What she alleges sounds like someone who was in shock. I don't see why you would bring that up given what I said and given that you admitted you know little of the details.

Sounds like these two have been friends for years, which i believe makes it easier for the family to accept Josh's apology and somehow welcome him in a sense. Still, I admire the Brown family to be able to forgive in such a tragic circumstance.

Anger is a natural response. But, anger does nothing to help the situation in any way. Immature people want to hold on to the anger. Some people can rise above and move beyond it and do the right thing. In this case, all people will benefit not having an anger issue to deal with. The family in this case is taking the high road, and it is an honorable thing to do. By them doing this, it will make it just a bit easier for everyone to deal with this. Its really a good thing to see.

I think it's sad that the family of the man killed is more forgiving than our fans.

This family's attitude brings the definition of grace (unmerited favor) into a whole new light.

It's rare to see, and I applaud their kindness toward Josh Brent.

the family seems to be grounded in reality and I respect them a ton for using sound judgement when it is easy to go in a different direction immediately after a devastating loss.

this isn't your typical two car dui fatality. Both people in Josh's car made a bad decision.

I can identify with this family. My cousin was killed in a car accident because his best friend was behind the wheel after drinking too much. It was a tragic event and our family was devastated but when it came time to either embrace or shun my cousin's friend, the choice was clear. To shun him would have been like losing a second member of our family. He was beating himself up enough for being the person responsible for the accident. He didn't need us to add to that, instead he needed our support, our forgiveness and our love.

I just hope that Josh Brent takes the outpouring of love from Jerry Brown's family and uses it the way my cousin's best friend did. He used it as a catalyst to changing his life and now he has a family, a great job, and volunteers with an organization locally that provides free rides for people leaving the bar that should not be driving.

My prayer are with both the Brown family, Josh Brent and the Cowboys organization. This can't be easy for any of them.
