Cowboys interested in Eric Winston, per Schefter...

would certainly be awesome, but I don't see how the Cowboys can make that happen unless a deal with Tony or Spencer is imminent.

If June 1 cuts don't affect the cap until then, could a guy like Winston agree to a deal in principle with the Cowboys, but wait until someone like Free's numbers come off the cap before signing?

I suppose they could but a player wouldn't want to wait that long to ink a contract. To many bad things can happen in between. The best you would see is probably a backup arrangement ... "if you're still not signed by June 1st we'll sign you" but both sides continue to shop until then.

It's kinda like a backup marriage partner. "If we're both single when we're 40 we'll get married".

Pretty sure the Romo deal is very soon, but if the Dolphins sign him today then no obviously no chance..

That makes sense I guess. But if a player has a tie to a region or really wants to play for a certain team, I think they might be willing to wait a bit and see what happens.

I'd really like the Winston signing. He's only 29 so could probably give you 3 or 4 good years, and his signing would allow us to be much more flexible in the draft, since T would no longer be an option. As an added bonus, it would almost certainly mean that Free is a goner.

I bet Miami snags him. They need someone relatively cheap to replace Jake Long.

I'd be happy to get him but I don't see Miami letting him leave. I wonder if Schefter just threw our name in there or are we truly interested

@BryanBroaddus: “@crazycracker666: @BryanBroaddus any truth to the Eric Winston interest rumors?” Not that I have heard of.

i think alot of the times they just throw out names of teams to make their story more interesting. and many times agent float names to get teams to move. i don't see us being interested with the price he will get

If we had legit interest in half of the players we're linked to we would've probably hoisted another lombardi by now.

Eric Winston is such a no brainer for this team if the money is even decent.

It saves us from having to burn a high pick on a Tackle and basically gives us a mulligan for completely whiffing on Doug Free.

@BryanBroaddus after reviewing some of Winston's work last year, not sure how much of an upgrade that would actually be...great makeup but..

@cbsdollarbill It was news to the guys that they were interested to be honest...I am going to look myself too...but thanks

As much as I'm intrigued, I am very leery of someone who was released twice in a year.

And it's not like he was released by the Ravens. Literally, the worst team in the league released him.

He's a player people have heard of.
He plays OL.

Therefore, we need him.

If only there was a way to upgrade the OL in the offseason without overpaying for a mediocre player....

I actually believe this more than the other.

Same here. Dallas might be interested but they will be waiting for guys like Winston, Robinson and Barber in the bargain basement aisle.

I don't want him or any free agent RT this year. Plenty of good prospects in the draft, and I'm ready to begin the season with Parnell.

i agree on starting parnell. but you still need a vet to be the swing guy. unless you take a ot high you are'nt gonna get a guy ready to play and the swing guy has to be ready to play. also if you think parnell can be a player you don't want to take a ot high in the draft
i don't think winston would be that guy. i think he will be fairly expensive but there are still some decent guys out there to be the swing guy

It wouldn't surprise me if someone like Schefter links teams that aren't interested solely to help benefit the player in his negotiations.

For example, Schefter links Winston to the cowboys, putting more pressure on the Dolphines to sign him, and in return Schefter gets inside scoops from agents and players.
