I think Garrett is great with offense. I think Callahan is great too. I hope they put their heads together and we continue to improve. I think the one thing that nobody still wants to acknowledge is that you could be Bill Walsh and until you get the offensive line to do the things you need to do, you are going to be hit and miss.

You watch too much Cowboy football if you think that's great.

Our offense will be our demise unless our run game explodes.

So, tell me sir, what would it take for you to say Garrett is doing a good job? Tell me your criteria in advance so I can see if you will remain true to it as the season progresses.

I'd like to add my 2 nickels. Personally, I'd like to see a convincing victory with all three phases are solid from start to finish in a game that has playoff implications. And generally some consistency good happenings from week to week and a rise in expectation level from "hope they don't lose" to "believing they win."

That said, I'll take a W anyway we can get them. But that's really what I'd like to see.

A win is great. The goal is to win at least 10 games to make the playoffs. Once you're in the playoffs, everyone has a shot. Now, last night's performance didn't really give me that much confidence that we're a 10-win team. It didn't discourage me either. I guess it made me a little indifferent.

I love the turnovers, but you can't expect to force 6 turnovers every week. So, what happens when we play a team that isn't turning the ball over? Our defense didn't really stop the Giants. They drove down the field with ease throughout the entire game. For example, on the second drive when the RB fumbled it away for their second turnover, they drove 80 yards down the field before he coughed it up in the red zone.

Also, our offense didn't put the nail in the coffin early in the game when they had the chance to. This reminded me of last year. I really don't know how to feel about how the team will perform this year. But there are things I was pleased with, such as the offensive line. I'd like to see us make Dez an unstoppable force. I'm also interested to see the pass rush when Spencer and Ratliff come back.

All in all, we need 10 wins to make the playoffs. We got one last night. It wasn't pretty, but I'll take it. Let's get 9 more.

I don't think JJ is the one who has emphasized the things Garrett has. I think JJ has been convinced by Garrett to head the direction they have headed. I'm grateful he has. I think JJ deserves credit for a lot of things if this works out. I think SJ does too.

Who hired JG? Who made the decision to keep JG around for this long?

I think if you will look at the post I added mention of Kiffin and Marinelli. So you will give credit to Garrett right? Just sayin.

Was just talking about your initial post. Did not see your follow up later in the thread. My Apologies. :)

Hear ya but that doesn't happen much in any game for any team, all 3 phases dominating for 60 minutes. I do think we are getting closer to believing they will win, the defense stopped Eli twice when it was 30-24, once forcing a punt and the other the Carr INT. That was very different than the past.

Special teams were excellent and the offense will improve with Waters in there and Dunbar.

1-0 with arrow pointing up. Each week is a battle for survival in the NFL. We are not a dominant team yet but the Ravens weren't last year either. Our team is tougher and more hustling than I've seen in a lonnnng time.

My second point about consistency is probably what I feel the most strongly about. Having them click on all three phases is gravy. Some games the defense will have a lights out performance where the offense is sucking rotten eggs and vice-versa. But having the team put a consistently solid team where they're not shooting themselves in the foot is probably everyone's ideal scenario.

One game doesn't tell the whole story and I think we'll know more about this team by game 4, barring any significant injuries.

I actually agree with you. I think you are spot on. I hope we see it too.

Again, hear ya my friend. But not much foot-shooting last night. We won the turnover and penalty battles by far. Lots to improve on like you said. We will be 4-1 after 5 games I assure you.

Has zero to do with what happens before or after the game. Tony always seems like he is in a fire drill to me. I know you don't agree, that is ok, just being honest about what I see. I think he could play with some more calm, and I think he gets off to slow starts sometimes because he is so fired up.

Feels good to wake up 1-0. Feels good to get the division win. Feels good to beat the Giants.

The defense looked good on the turnover side of things, but pass defense is a concern when we give up 450 or so.

But, you have to consider that we gave up 70 yards on an obviously blown coverage where Allen didn't know what the call was. And, we gave up 80 yards on their last drive as we played a prevent D and allowed them to march down the field in exchange for eating up time on the clock. So, IMO, we only gave up 300 "actual" passing yards. Not great, but nothing to be concerned about unless it continues with lesser quality QBs and WRs.

Collinsworth thought that was the problem. On the radio (after the game) they said that the defense didn't think that was a first down (it wasn't) and that the refs quickly put the ball down to allow the gnats to go into hurry up (without even measuring) leaving Allen not able to get back in his correct spot.

I agree. I think in week 1 a lot of fans are thinking that about their teams. Seems almost every game yesterday was down to the last seconds of the game. I think alot of it is the hoppla on week 1. Now guys are gearing up for the long grind.
