One subtle observation after rewatching the game

This has nothing to do with X's and O's or execution of plays but I think team unity and chemistry is very important to the success of a football team. Some will argue that success comes first then the chemistry, Moose Johnston would argue otherwise. I remember an interview with Babe last year where he specifically brought up the fact that the successful 90s teams actually started developing their chemistry and tightness in the prior losing seasons. He said the team was very close during those losing years. I'm not saying the recent teams disliked each other, but IMO the bond was not tight and unbreakable like I've seen from other successful teams. Unlike in years past when I felt the team was subdued in their celebrations with their teammates, in the Giants game I saw teammates congratulating each other on damn near every play. From Ware's interception, when he was mobbed by his teammates on the sideline (including Frederick) to Dwayne Harris getting love by no less than 7 teammates immediately after a big tackle on special teams. I hope we continue to see this type of emotions for the rest of the season.

Also another thing, in the 4th quarter edgar jones and kiwanuka got into on special teams....holloman/sims both came to their teammates defense. This is what I was desperately wanting last year when lee got knocked out in seattle!!! There were other instances where the team displayed "chippiness" throughout the game, including Dez and Tanner dragging one of the giants out of the pile on the on-side kick. When that Giants player swung Dez onto the sideline, Andre Smith came off the bench and shoved the **** out of him. I know I might be making a mountain out of a molehill but in the past I've been critical of their zombie-like behavior during games so I was very happy with this.

Interesting observation and something that we will hopefully see a lot more of. Really this team has taken a lot of criticism so they should bond on that alone...along with the fact that noone outside of this fanbase believes in them at all cause of Romo's presence.

Good to see and hope it continues.

I'm a big believer that chemistry is a side effect of winning and not the other way around. That said, winning comes from getting talented guys who are willing to work hard, and that probably lends itself to everybody getting along.
We've had good interpersonal chemistry on the team for a few years now. We're just now upgrading the roster to a point where it's evident that we're also a pretty good team. I guess we'll see as the year wears on, but I think we'll play some games and eventually get some swagger going. At that point, you've got skilled players who work hard and are confident in their abilities. Thats pretty tough to beat.

I agree Zordon. I believe that chemistry starts first. Whether it builds with winning is something the team has to decide. I've been on winning teams that were tight and teams that struggled some that were also together.

I agree, great observation and something some fans have wanted to see in previous seasons (losing or not). Your Seattle example of Sean Lee being blind sided with a cheap but legal block, our whole team walked away, feeling no need or fire to defend their teammate. Many posters say it all comes from talent, winning, etc. but I see alot of losing teams in the league who display this minimal unity when they feel a teammate is disrespected and we are somehow "above that" like wine and cheese will be served to the "bigger man".

I remember watching a Football life and Belichick pointed out on film to his team ,that a DT made a great Stop and no one came over to congratulate him. He said that's a lack of team spirit and it has no place on my football team!

It's about time somebody else on this forum has an appreciation for athletes with dog in them. Good stuff man. I didn't even know who that Jones guy was but he was turnt up all game. Lol then I remembered the guys we traded for. I like him for his attitude alone now. Those are the type of guys you need on special teams more than the other two phases of the game. Did I say phases of the game? (Facepalm)

Yeah that play burnt me up so much for the same reason, when I played football if someone took a cheap shot on our teammates we would respond not necessarily in a bad way either. It's all about building a brotherhood on & off the field, you gotta be willing to bust yourself for the guy next to you. I remember back to the NBA Finals this year when someone posted pics on here of Dez, Witten, Miles, Romo, & Murray all at the game together and my first thought was these guys are bonding all be it a basketball game but we hadn't seen it before other than Tony & Witten.

Anyone who paid attention in preseason saw this already and factored it into their season prognostication.

I even pointed this out on BW Webb's interception in the preseason. He was mobbed to the ground by the entire defense who understood just how important it was for the rook after his previous disaster game when people on this board wanted him cut.

Was a special moment.
